As a part of the new Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 update, Google has introduced Status Bar settings for the first time. While most other Android phone makers have had status bar controls for years and years, Google has never had them in their version of Android that ships on Pixel phones, as far as I can recall.
If you head into Settings>Notifications, there’s a new option called “Status Bar.” Within this area, you won’t find a robust set of options like you might on a OnePlus phone, but at least we have some.
For now, Google is only letting us decide which levels of notifications show (All, Priority only, or None). The other options are to toggle some icons for Mute, Vibrate, and Battery Percentage on or off.
Yeah, we got a little too excited about this minor change, but it could lead to bigger things. Imagine a world where Google finally gives us full control of the majority of icons we see in the status bar or the number of notifications. That’d be neat.
