Sony’s newest flagship to not come to America, the Xperia Z2 (hands-on here), is available today through eBay for only $599.99. The device typically retails for around $799.99, making this deal good for $200 off the sticker price. Not too shabby, eBay.
You have your choice of colors – Black, White, and Purple, with all models sporting 16GB of storage, 20MP rear-facing camera, 5.2″ 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, NFC, microSD slot, and come running Android 4.4.2. (more…)
Sony announced two wireless charging accessories for the Xperia Z2 this morning, a charging cover and a charging plate. Both incorporate Qi technology, which utilizes electromagnetic induction to send juice to your phone’s battery without the help of cords and wires. (more…)
Since the Sony Xperia Z2 is not coming to the US any time soon, those of you who want to purchase this year’s flagship from Sony are going to have to either import it or buy an unlocked model from a reseller. Neither is an affordable option. Importing from the UK could run you upward of $900, while most of the unlocked resellers in the US have the price of the Xperia Z2 set no lower than $750. That’s a lot of cash for a smartphone.
But, if you really, really want the Xperia Z2, then you may want to rush over to eBay today for the best price I have seen to date. Through a daily deal, you can pick up the device for $672.98, which includes free expedited shipping. That’s almost $100 less than most resellers. That may even be cheaper than what Sony will sell it for on its own website later this summer. (more…)
As promised, after comparing the Sony Xperia Z2 to the HTC One (M8), we have another comparison of Sony’s 2014 flagship to the Samsung Galaxy S5. At this point in time, until LG and Motorola give us something to talk about, these are the three phones of 2014 that you should all be curious about. While Sony’s won’t arrive in the US for another couple of months, it has generally received praise from anyone who has put their hands on it, which includes us.
So in this clip, we are following a similar format to the previous comparison. You will hear general thoughts on the differences between each phone, how their specs compare, see how their displays look side-by-side, which Android skin we prefer, and ultimately, which of the two (or three) is our favorite phone thus far.
Our full review is on the way, along with what we are hoping is an epicly long camera comparison of the One (M8), Z2, and Galaxy S5. For now, watch the video below and then let us know if there is anything in particular you would like to see. (more…)
We are in full Sony Xperia Z2 review preparation mode after having the phone in hand through the weekend. For the moment, that means one thing – comparisons. In our first of two comparisons, we have put the HTC One (M8) up against Sony’s newest flagship, giving our own thoughts on the specs, hardware design, display quality, camera UIs, and more.
Both the Xperia Z2 and One (M8) carry very similar specs, but that is about the only similarity here. On a camera front, we all know that HTC went with a somewhat-risky 4MP sensor (plus a secondary depth sensor), whereas Sony is using a large 20.7MP shooter. The hardware couldn’t be more different, either. HTC has gone with an all-metal unibody exterior that is rounded to perfection to create smartphone luxury, while Sony went with a combo of glass, metal, and plastic to form a body that is quite square for a modern smartphone. If you look at their two takes on an Android skin, you will again see how different the design philosophies are. Finally, I have to say that battery life on the Xperia Z2 has been out-of-this-world good. I only had to charge the device once over the weekend, while working extra hard on day two to try and kill it.
After watching the comparison clip below, be sure to let us know what else you would like to see from the Xperia Z2. Finally, be on the lookout for a similar video featuring the Galaxy S5. (more…)
The last time we saw the Verizon version of Sony Xperia Z2 show up in an official photo from Sony, the photo was brushed off as being nothing more than a “mock-up” that was mistakenly posted. I wonder what the excuse will be this time. Spotted by readers of ours on Sony’s own Xperia Z2 Korean product page, we once again have the 2014 flagship with a Verizon logo branding its body. Of course, since being spotted last night, Sony has removed the image in favor of a phone with only Sony branding, but again, it was there. The proof sits above you. (more…)
The Sony Xperia Z2 is finally in our possession. After being announced at MWC in February, Sony’s new flagship has been pretty hard to come by, thanks to shipping delays and the terrible news that the phone won’t arrive in the US until the summer as an unlocked model. And even though the Verizon model that was spotted last week was shot down as being nothing more than a mock-up, this phone has remained on our radar. So, like we always seem to, we made sure to pick one up because the readers of this site have made it clear that they want more of the Z2. (more…)
Over the weekend, a report quoted Sony as saying that the Xperia Z2 would not make its way to US shores any time soon and would instead only be available at some point as an unlocked device sold through Sony’s website. While that still may be the case, what the heck is the official Sony Xperia Google+ page doing, posting an image of the Sony Xperia Z2 with Verizon branding? See it? See that big ol’ “Verizon” logo at the top of the device in the spot where it would normally say “Sony?” (more…)
