This evening, Asus announced that the Transformer Pad (TF300) will be the first non-Nexus device to officially receive the update to Android 4.2. The update starts rolling out today via over-the-air update in the U.S. and will be available in other regions later this month.
Other than all of the standard Android 4.2 features that are included like multi-user support, a new keyboard, and DayDream, the new firmware will also provide updates to Asus’ App Locker, Virtual Keyboard, Lock Screen and Setup Wizard applications.
The ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity, ASUS MeMO Pad Smart 10”, and ASUS MeMO Pad will receive Android 4.2 in Q2.
Over the weekend, ASUS pushed an update out to the Transformer Pad (TF300), but it was rather minor. While there are no visible changes yet, the kernel appears to have been updated, which could point that this is an update that could be preparing the device for the jump to Android 4.2+. Have you noticed anything special?
We love updates.
Cheers Jason and Chaim!
Who wants to wait until Black Friday to start getting deals on Android stuff? Not me. Today, the online sales site Woot!, has an awesome deal on the Transformer Pad for only $299.99. For the price, you’re getting a refurbished tablet coupled with the lapdock that is usually sold separate for another $100. That’s a pretty sweet deal. The tablet is powered by a Tegra 3 processor, making it a dream for gaming. Additionally, the tablet has a strong developer following and if you love tinkering, it’s a great device for that as well.
Cheers Steve and Jason!
If you’re the owner of the Transformer Pad from ASUS, go check to see if you have an update. It’s nothing major, but it’s a minor bump in Jelly Bean and is still Android version 4.1.1. According to some users already on the update, which has been live for the past couple of days, the tablet seems to boot much faster, the WiFi connects much quicker when coming out of sleep, and overall performance has improved. Can’t argue with that.
So, go check to see if you got it already.
Day 4 of Reader Appreciation Week starts now! To kick the day off, let’s give away a combo – the Asus Transformer Pad TF300T in blue and a matching keyboard dock. Sporting a Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 8MP rear camera, and battery life for days when docked, this is what we like to call a “Winning Team.” Thanks again to NVIDIA, one lucky DL reader gets one heck of a package. (more…)
It may not be Jelly Bean for the Infinity, but users can begin to download updates for both the Transformer Infinity (TF700) and Transformer Pad (TF300). For the TF700, it looks like ASUS is bumping up the firmware for the camera and have also simplified the boot animation. Once we get a full changelog, we can update the post. For the TF300, ASUS has already rolled out Jelly Bean so this is more of a maintenance update with some bug fixes and improved performance.
Well, guess I’ll throw this out there – where’s Jelly Bean for the Prime? I’m still waiting, ASUS.
Cheers Ben, Nick, SteveG1253, and Joelseph!
Looking for a tablet? Maybe one that rocks Jelly Bean? Maybe one that incorporates a sweet keyboard dock? Good news then. For a very limited time, Sears is hosting a deal on the ASUS Transformer Pad (TF300). When you buy the tablet for $400, they’ll throw in the matching keyboard dock for free, which usually runs a cool $150. Not a bad deal at all if you’re looking for a quad-core, JB-rockin’, multi-tasking super tablet.

According to a reader, it looks as though Jelly Bean is ready and rolling out the Asus Transformer Pad (TF300). I’m still waiting to have it be pushed to mine, but I can’t wait to test out Jelly Bean on a Tegra 3 chip. With the TF300 getting it first, we can expect to see it ready for the TF201 (Prime) and the TF700 (Infinity) rather soon. Asus has been top notch with the updates this year.
Check to see if your update is ready to come out of the oven and post your results down below.
