Owners of the WiFi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 are receiving updates to Android 3.2 today, but we are hearing that it may be causing some issues. Our reader that updated saw the process fail about halfway through and then noticed that his WiFi, Bluetooth, and screen rotation was broken after rebooting. Factory resets also do not appear to fix the problem, so we’ll have to recommend that you proceed with caution while updating. A changelog is not available at this time either – if you can live with your current build for now without updating, that’s probably your best bet.

For our first week, we have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 up for grabs. We reviewed this tablet already, but wanted to reiterate the fact that this might be our favorite Android tablet of them all. It’s ultra-slim, weighs practically nothing, and has one of the more vivid and beautifully 10.1″ screens you will see on any mobile device. Plus, with its dual-core processor (Tegra 2), 1GB of RAM and sleek look, it will take you into the future even as we see quad-core tablets around the corner.  

10 years ago this month, Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto III to the world. An open world game where you were a lowly thug on the streets of Liberty City and things happened, bad things. No one knew that this game would change how almost every other game after it would play. So to celebrate this benchmark in video games, Rockstar is planning on releasing a mobile version of GTA 3 “later this fall” to a “select new generation of Android devices.” Those devices include the Motorola Droid X2, Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S II and even support for the Motorola XOOM, ASUS Transformer and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Rockstar says to “stay tuned for more devices to be announced” on top of that list. Noticeably missing though is the Xperia Play, a ‘Playstation phone’ made specifically for games. Seeing as how GTA 3 made a name for itself on the Playstation 2 this is an odd omission.

It will be interesting to see how well the mobile devices will run this game, but it is 10 years old after all and it did not have the same graphics or size that games these days have. As long as this is reasonably priced I will definitely be looking into this as a game for my XOOM.

Behind closed doors last week, Samsung made an offer to Apple that many thought would bring the long awaited Galaxy Tabs to Australia. In the offer, Sammy promised an expedited court hearing as long as the tech giant was able to launch the long delayed tablet. Apple wasn’t amused and released the following statement through their lawyer.

“It is one we don’t accept and there is no surprise. The main reason we are here is to prevent the launch (of the Galaxy 10.1) and maintain the status quo.”

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has earned rave reviews across the globe, and may be the one true competitor to Apple’s iPad. Samsung is cooperating with the big A and has already agreed to remove two features from the Aussie Galaxy Tab, which brings the number of alleged infringed Apple patents down to 1 — touch screen display technology.

However, until the courts make a decision the fine folks of Australia will be left with a limited tablet choice. Then again, they could always pick up a Kindle Fire?

Adobe Photoshop Touch was just demoed on stage here at Adobe MAX, dropping quite a few jaws and grabbing enough cheers to get us excited.  I actually booked it immediately after the on-stage walk-through over to Samsung’s booth to get some hands-on time with it and I’ve got to say, that this is going to be one cool tool when it launches in November.  As a piece of software that won’t be here for another month, it was very polished, easy to navigate, and powerful.  While I am by no means a PS pro, I saw every tool, brush, and setting that gets me through my day.

The tablet that Adobe is using to showcase it on is a prototype from Samsung that they won’t reveal much on (no it’s not running Ice Cream Sandwich).  It was built specifically for their new pen technology that is pressure sensitive and allows you to draw, erase and choose colors in a jiff.  In fact, we aren’t sure this model will ever make it to stores, but the idea of this type of pen experience on a tablet is intriguing.

The app will run $9.99 when it is released.

Update:  In the Adobe executive team Q&A that is going on right now, one question brought up the idea of plug-ins to Photoshop Touch.  Would there ever be any?  As of now, there are no plans, but you get the feeling that Adobe has already thought about it and will possibly introduce them in the future.  They did point out though, that tablets right now are where PCs were 5 years ago.  What they mean by that is that we have a long way to go before tablets can even come close to what we can currently do on a computer. Could plug-ins come in the next year?  Possibly.  I think NVIDIA’s quad-core processor is a step towards this happening.

Update 2:  In case anyone was wondering, all of their new Touch apps were built in Adobe AIR.

An update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE (our review) is starting to roll out to users at this time.  While it may not be Android 3.2 or have TouchWiz over the top, it does have another thing for you to all look forward to.  It’s rooted just as easily as it was before the update.  All you have to do is apply the update and then re-apply the same root patch that you did before updating.  Fun.

A minor update should be pushing out to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE (our review) here in the next week or so.  The support documents for build EH04 (11.4MB) have been uploaded to Verizon’s servers, which is usually a good sign that everything has been approved and just needs to be opened up to the world.

It doesn’t appear to be Android 3.2 or include the TouchWizUX interface that graced WiFi-only users a few weeks back, but it does help out with the most important to this device, its 4G LTE connection.  Other than that, looks like a bunch of bug fixes.
