On this episode of the Droid Life Show, we’re taking some time to recap CES 2017. I know, CES wrapped last week, but we haven’t had a chance to share our experience that is almost always worth sharing. We’ll talk about our favorites of the show (SHIELD, Spot, AirTV, Chromebooks, etc.), some random stuff (an Android bike), and any other stories from the week in Vegas.
Join us live at 1:00PM Pacific (4:00PM Eastern) for the fun.

CES has always had many goodies announced for fans of technology in general, but given that I am mostly interested in the Android-focused announcements, the show hasn’t been all that stellar for the past few years. While we do see a few phones announced here and there, as well as plenty of virtual reality stuff, CES isn’t quite what it once was the years we first started attending.
In 2017, we saw a lot of the same, with US availability announcements for phones like the Mate 9 from Huawei, two new Chromebooks from Samsung and Google, plus a gang of other announcements that includes new Android Wear devices from an assortment of brands.
With the following post, I intend on sharing my favorite announcement from this year’s CES and going over the product in full detail. (more…)
In a Q&A at CES with LeEco’s Kenny Mathers, GM of Product Marketing, we had the opportunity to ask what customers can expect in terms of software updates and tweaks for the lineup of LeEco smartphones. (more…)
SanDisk announced a new microSD card this week at CES, a card that is rated A1 for its performance while handling apps to “launch and run apps at blazing speeds.” In other words, this is a card built for users who want to store apps outside of their internal storage, yet still see solid performance. T-Mobile is present at CES this year, ready to unveil its next Uncarrier move. We still don’t know exactly what to expect, but we think it’s possible that a few clues were provided in the last promo video the company posted. (more…)
Press day is over at CES 2017 and the show floor is now open, but there are still companies holding stand-alone press events. One of those is Xiaomi, who says it has a new Mi product to unveil here at the show. Will it be a phone for the US or something else? We don’t know, but are on hand to find out.
You can watch the event live streamed through the YouTube embed above. The festivities kick off at 11AM Pacific (2PM Eastern).
Almost exactly 2 years ago to the day, a company named Saygus introduced a phone called the V-Squared at CES that was billed as the ultimate power user package. It had dual everything, tech supposedly never seen before in a phone, “Fractal Antenna Technology,” Harmon Kardon speakers, IPX7 waterproofing, and more. The price was attractive, the company was based in the US, and a good many of us thought it was worth picking up. Thankfully, most of us gave up on it pretty quickly, because they still haven’t shipped a single phone it appears. (more…)
Huawei announced US availability for the Mate 9 smartphone at CES this week, letting all fans know that the device will be available starting January 6 at various online retailers for an unlocked price of $599. (more…)
