  • Call me OCD, but I wish the distance from the top of the phone to the camera was the same as the distance from the camera to the edge of the glass section. Or even equidistant from the camera to the edge of the glass and from the edge of the glass to the fingerprint sensor. That arbitrary dimension has me twitching and washing my hands and flipping light switches.

    (iPhone will have it in 2019)

  • Hmm… So far I’m not regretting getting a Huawei P10 recently for $495. The Pixel 2 would win for being stock Android, but I like a lot of things about the P10 more than what I’ve seen/read about the Pixel 2 so far.

      • Idk why so much emphasis is put on designs and textures that will just be covered up by a case

        • Exactly. Now, I used to be one who NEVER used a case but even then, I found the emphasis odd when all the people around me who emphasized it always did use cases. Only recently, I’ve begun to use cases, so even more than ever it doesn’t matter.

  • I can only hope in the next year or so that google brings back sub $500 phones with stock android. I don’t get why people are willing to spend so much on a phone they keep for a year or two. The price point for the N5x was good for me. Guess I might have to start looking at other brands of phones with minimal mods to android, not sure how many fit that bill.

    • People are willing to spend it because you get what you pay for. Don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to spend less for phones, but the experience on the Pixel is light years better than that on the Nexus 4 or Nexus 5 or Nexus 5x.

      • I guess I’d be happy with $200 less of an experience and I sure others would be also. The less expensive Nexus of past seemed more popular than the pixels at least from the comments before/after their release that I’ve read.

        • Wait 6 months to a year. Buy used off Swappa. $200 less for the same experience. That’s what I’ll probably do with my next purchase after this contract is up.

          • Problem with that is then you probably lose the warranty and you also lose some of the support. Meaning the whole 2 years of updates thing. Buying a phone halfway through it’s support and keeping it two or more years wouldn’t be fun.

            I did just read about the moto x4 android one phone coming to the US, so maybe future phones in that series could be an option.

          • I’ve never had a good experience trying to get any manufacturer to honor a warranty so I mostly ignore those. But buying a phone that’s 6 months old for a few hundred less then keeping it for a few months after support ends really isn’t a huge deal. Regardless most of the phones I’ve had have had security updates past two years, they just haven’t gotten OS updates which to me, isn’t a huge dealbreaker but others may feel differently.

            But if those things are important to you then you need another option. Hopefully in a few years if Google can make Pixel a real viable thing they can start making a second tier set of devices, in addition to the top tier Pixels, that fit your criteria better. I really hope they do as my wife is enjoying her current Pixel and I can’t see swapping her to a device that needs more hand holding like the other phone makers.

        • I, personally, never want to compromise on experience. If I own any piece of tech, not just phones, I just want them to work. Period. As I expect them to. I don’t want lag, I don’t want jenk, I don’t want to have to fuss with it, I don’t , I don’t want to have to work around and deal with design flaws, I don’t want it taking bad photos, I don’t want to deal with excessive battery drain or terrible speakers, or prematurely broken or defective parts, etc….I just want to buy it and enjoy and use it.

          • I’m pretty sure a manufacturer could do a $200 less phone that works and doesn’t lag. Just don’t include all the extra premium “feel” that doesn’t affect performance and use a decent 1080p screen. I’m also sure there will always be expensive phones for people like you, but some of us got spoiled with the good yet inexpensive nexus phones. I do consider the N5x good as it does what I need it to.

          • They haven’t yet…at least that I’ve tried. The closest to it for me was the Moto X…1st and 2nd gen. I say “closest” because yes, I loved those phones, but while they were definitely more “affordable” than most flagships, I wouldn’t call them “inexpensive.”

  • So these are not going to be in carrier stores… Again? They really font want to play with the big boys do they? 85+% of smartphones are sold in a carrier store. Smh

    • In order for my work to pay for my phone, it has to be financed and added to my monthly bill. If I can’t do that with the pixel, then I have to pay out of pocket. This free S8 Active sounds better every day!

  • I’m actually mildly interested in the base Pixel 2. Too bad they’ll ruin it with a small battery, lack of wireless charging, no sd slot..

  • weird they swapped the camera and flash placement on the xl, but not on this one? Camera should be on left, with flash next to it. Needs to flip flop.

      • hope the quality is better than the current 5″ pixel. it’s such crap. horrible banding throughout, vertical bands just running all up and down the entire screen. i’d rather this phone have a 2k display, tbh. even at 5″, the resolution isn’t nearly as nice as a 5.7 v20 with 2k.

  • The back glass is now a halter top above the belly button, where before, it covered the belly button – ending just below it. Pretty risque’ if you ask me.

    • That’s the whole point of Google sending all these images to Droid Life. “You get to ‘leak’ a ton of our products, but we won’t let you show the front of the phones.”

  • I would get this for the wife in that blue but her Pixel is working perfect… i don’t think she needs an upgrade this year. Still may by both this and the XL to compare though

  • Pass. Ugly and still overpriced. I’d be embarrassed to work for Google on a day like today.

    • Personally I find it good looking and the pricing seems good compared to the competition. Realistically the price is only hurting those who for some reason upgrade every year.

  • Interesting that the proportions of the 2 and 2 XL seem to be exactly the same. Though that’s true of OnLeaks’ claimed dimensions for them (to within 1.5%, which is below the margin of error when comparing these images).

  • It’s funny that Google had the nerve to price the Pixel 2 at $649. Meanwhile, Apple dropped the iPhone 7 for $549. Which one do you think folks will buy more?

    • Pixel 2 price is same as last year for this year’s device. iPhone 7 is last year’s iPhone, and this year’s model is a lot more expensive. What exactly is your point?

      Anyway, who cares? If you want iOS you buy an iPhone, and if you don’t you don’t.

        • Considering, the Pixel 2 has not been released yet, and it certainly will have improvements over the Pixel 1, your assessment is really meaningless. After it is released…or at the least announced, then you can have such an opinion.

          • If you’ve seen the original Pixel, you’ve seen the Pixel 2. It’s leaking all over the net. I think you are confused with the meaning of an opinion.

  • $649 for a two year old recycled design…. Google has lost it. I was hoping that the addition of Rich Osterloh would have given Google a much needed push in creativity and uniqueness.

    • The One Plus 5 isn’t looking so bad after all. Google has gone stone cold crazy with these prices and hideous designs.

    • Remember that Google is trying to appeal to the iPhone crowd here; people not necessarily interested in the “cutting edge” as much as they are in the “it just works.” If that’s the case, then this thing will do just fine.

    • Apple charging that price for the same design 4 years in row now. Doesn’t seem to be a problem.

The person you’re replying to was referring to hardware and software support by APPLE, not by Apple’s consumers and physical stores built by APPLE, not Apple’s consumers.   • I really hope the Pixel 2 has front facing speakers, the Pixel 2 XL pricing is really steep but I need those front facing speakers.

  • This is my next phone. Cheaper than iPhone 8, awesome. Like that blue colour, that’s the one I’ll try to get but I won’t be fussy, I’ll get whichever one is in stock on launch day.

  • odd that the camera sensor arrangement is different versus scaling up / down to make the regular Pixel / Pixel XL. wondering what hardware differences would make it necessary to shift the sensor.

  • So the smaller Pixel is $200 less. Lets see those the Pixel XL2 isn’t worth $200 more comments like folks did with the iPhone.

    Who were in Google’s focus groups? Who asked for these colors in Opinion Rewards? I want answers.

        On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $11752 this last four weeks..with-out any doubt it’s the most-comfortable job I have ever done .. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

  • Ohhhhh!!! Now I know why Google chose both LG and HTC. Since both phones have same design, I am guessing that Google chose both manufacturers so that they do not have supply issues like the first Pixel. I think that’s the most plausible explanation.

    • HTC was going to make both, but they couldn’t figure out how to reduce the chin and forehead after the S8 launch. HTC sucks at that so they went to LG for the XL without violating their contract that was written before minimal bezel was the hotness. My guess…

    • Absolutely my thinking. Split the two up. Lets hope Google buys HTC and makes six devices. Pixel 2, Pixel XL 2, Pixel Android One(or whatevs), Pixel 3, PIxel XL 3, oh and the Chromebook Pixel.
