Fleksy Debuts Messenger Keyboard for the Gear 2

fleksy gear 2

I’m not convinced that typing on your smartwatch will ever be a pleasant experience, but you could do worse than Fleksy‘s Messenger. The makers of the third-party keyboard, who had us enamored when they first debuted, have moved beyond the smartphone form factor for their latest project, a Tizen-compatible SMS app for the Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch.

Despite the shrunken-down size and simplified layout, make no mistake – Fleksy’s Messenger is replete with the features you’d expect from Fleksy, including gestures and intelligent prediction. It won’t work miracles, but you can bet it’ll make pecking out words on your wrist computer a little less painful.

The Messenger app will be available later today in Samsung Apps.

no way my gorilla fingers would be able to use that thing…

  • Sean H.

It is available right now. I am currently using it on my Gear 2 NEO

  • Jacob Mustin

Fleksy, while being one of the best looking keyboards out there, has the WORST autocorrection. And ive been trying them on and off for what seems like eternity… it never improves. I still say it has a lot of potential though…. if theyd buckle down and make autocorrect thats at least on par with the competition

  • KoTiell

I think we are ignoring the point of the watch at this point. I can not foresee typing on my watch.

You’ve received the notification and thought it worth to reply. It’s now time to get your phone out and use it.

    • 213ninja

there are plenty of situations where reaching into your pocket or bag isn’t convenient, or, isn’t possible. it’s 2014 and these devices and applications weren’t built for no reason at all. let’s push the pace.

anyone that isn’t down can always go back to flip phones and T9.

      • KoTiell

I’d be curious what these situations are. I feel like for all of them, typing on a watch isn’t convenient either.

In that video he could have pulled his phone out and responded faster than it took to type on his watch.

        • 213ninja

if you buy a smartwatch you’ll figure it out ;)

  • Arnold

    LOL

  • Paul Houseknecht

I don’t even know why I am going to ask… but I figured some one will….so… .will I be able to use this with the gear 1 running Tizen?

    • Paul Houseknecht

disregard the questoin, I see on the flesky website that you can already side load it on the gear one… will give it a go…

      • PoisonApple31

        That’s awesome.

  • PoisonApple31

With this keyboard you can only reply, not receive the text messages. You have to switch between the two apps on your Gear 2. If this someone completely synced up with the Android app, it might be so bad. Typing with it works better than I could imagine, but who would want to type on such a little screen?

    • 213ninja

does it matter if hangouts is my default messaging app?

      • PoisonApple31

It does not. I use hello sms as my default messaging app.

        • 213ninja

thx. imma give it a go.

  • ckeegan

Sweet, now all they need to do it make a stylus that looks like a #2 pencil, and people can look as cool as the people typing on calculator watches back in the early 90s.

  • MacNificent

Come on guys. Don’t make apps for this crap. This is why Samsung is still making this crap. Because people keep supporting them

    • Tee

Yeah! Silly developers trying to make some money for themselves! They should totally not make anything for it just so your hate for Samsung can be appeased!

      • PoisonApple31

This app is free – which makes me happy!

    • 213ninja

      dumbest comment of the day.

      • MacNificent

        I agree!
You probably should’ve kept it to yourself..

  • mcdonsco

Meh…Gears…yuck. Tried one briefly; cheaply built, proprietary, crap battery life, looks like a kids toy watch and yet all that considered; expensive (for what it is – all I already mentioned).

No thanks…I’ll keep waiting for the 360 (assuming it doesn’t prove to be enormous; in which case no smart watch for me).

    • ckeegan

Why do people keep talking about the size of the 360? We’ve seen it in many pictures, on the wrists of people who are clearly not body builders. It’s not like Josh Topolsky has giant forearms and wrists or anything. My guess is 48mm. Yes, a slightly above average size, but it’s not like youre going to be walking around looking like a rapper, unless your wrists are the same size as a 16 year old girl.

      • 213ninja

besides, a larger screen on a smartwatch seems appropriate considering all of the additional functionality you’re paying for….like keyboard apps like the one he commented on here.

      • mcdonsco

Some of us dont want to look like a pimp wearing a school classroom clock on our wrists…its called “having taste”.

        • 213ninja

          you sound ridiculous.

        • ckeegan

Right, because all of the Moto execs and journalists photographed wearing the watch have looked like pimps wearing a school classroom clock. I’m sure that’s their target market.

    • PoisonApple31

You must have tried the original Gear then because battery life is not crappy at all with Tizen. I get 3 days with typical usage and 5 when I barely use it.

      • crazed_z06

Yup. The battery life is actually pretty damn good. Also he says “cheaply built”.. The gear has excellent build quality. The Pebble’s build quality is the real joke. It feels like a watch from a vending machine. Not exaggerating at all. It’s terrible.

        • mcdonsco

As I mentioned to the other that has an issue with me calling out the build quality…were talking about the build quality of A WATCH … Which usually doesn’t refer to the durability of it, but rather the materials used to gain an aesthetic appeal.

          • crazed_z06

The build materials of the gear are very nice.

            Whatevs .. Haters gonna hate

    • 213ninja

cheaply built? are you nuts? you can throw it at a wall and not break it. the build quality of the gear is superb. battery life on Tizen is 3 to 4 days. nothing crap about that…

      • mcdonsco

Forgive me but I figured it was a given that when talking about the build quality OF A WATCH, we’re not talking about how it would survive being thrown against a all as you put it.

        • 213ninja

i think if i can throw ANYTHING ON PLANET EARTH at a wall and have it survive it’s not “cheaply built”. you made the comment, not me.

  • http://idle0095.com/ IDLE0095

Hey No android anymore so no Galaxy Gear. Its called Gear 2 now.

    • Patricia Steven

In that video he could have pulled his phone out and responded faster than it took to type on his watch.

Stretching the definition ‘droid’ life, are we?

    • Will P

I don’t mind it. They’ve been doing it for a while now anyways http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/21/quick-first-look-at-the-htc-8x-and-windows-phone-8/

    • PoisonApple31

Since the Tizen smartwatches interact with Android devices, this article is not out of scope.

    • panicswhenubered

Check out the new blog: http://www.Tizen-Life.com /s

    • 213ninja

they cover Apple all of the time. they cover anything mobile for the most part.

      • http://www.greenless.com Lex Lybrand

Right, because SEO and clicks and money. I get that.

        It’s still annoying.

        • 213ninja

i don’t know. i’m not normally one to ride their jocks but i think they care about the industry as a whole so they cover competitors, accessories, etc. sure, gotta get those hits, but if i’m not mistaken, one of the writers uses an iphone.

  • Eric

I feel like morse code would be better at that point…

  • regkilla

    This is crazy.
