Moto X Gets a New Spring Themed Boot Animation Today

Have you rebooted your Moto X today? Motorola claims that you should see a new spring themed boot animation once you do. We aren’t seeing it on our end, but Motorola did post the video above to their Google+ page to show you what to expect. Give it a bit, then reboot – the change should happen automatically in the background of your phone.

This is at least the third boot animation we have seen from Motorola for the Moto X, with two in the past taking on both holidays and sci-fi all-stars.

I think it’s a ploy to get you to re-boot your phone… Since getting this Moto X, I have had no reason to reboot other than to see these boot screens :)

I personally hate Moto X. Too small. Yeah Kill me Kellen. But I out fitted all of my 105 employees with Moto X on VZW and they swear by them.

    • WAldenIV

Seems hypocritical to give your employees a phone you hate. At least most think it’s an awesome phone.

So…wait…I have to turn off my phone to see this right. How do I do that? #NoRebootClub

Hi! I’m from Argentina, and here is autumn season, the Moto X boot animation features an autumn theme. Cheers!

    • mo

Wow, that’s pretty cool that they make sure it’s accurate for different parts of the world.

  • Kane Desousa

    I don’t have a Moto X but Motorola knows what they’re doing…

Cool update, but I hardly ever see the boot animation. This phone is so stable (and battery life so good) that I hardly ever need to reboot it.

    • Nikuliai

I watch it pretty often, I turn off the phone to charge it so the charge cycle is faster (between 10-11pm, if anyone is calling at that hour, it can wait)

      • mo

How much faster does it actually charge when off vs when in active sleep/screen off?

        • Nikuliai

tbh I can’t quantify it since I never timed it, but it “feels” like it takes less than half of the time, so I’d rather have the phone off for an hour than to have it plugged for 2 and a half (I’m using a pretty little charger)

I agree. I used to measure my Droid 2 uptime in hours, my Droid 4 in days, but my Moto X I have up for over a month until I rebooted it to install Xposed 12 days ago.

Look for an update to “Motorola Boot Services” in the Play store before rebooting. Mine just updated.

Can someone explain how they do this? I just find it odd that they can control your boot logo remotely by having you simply reboot your phone…

    • Jeff Tycz

they are not changing it right when you reboot, it was probably downloaded during regular phone use and replaced the current one with this one with the motorola boot services app. There is nothing odd about it

      • http://www.twitter.com/macpro88 Jacob

Ok, so there’s an app, “Motorola Boot Services,” that controls features like the boot logo, and its the app itself that changed the boot logo when the app downloaded the new logo from Motorola. Am I getting it? Sorry, I don’t have a Moto X and am not familiar with how this works lol

        • BoFiS

Yes, they just update the app and it, being a system application, can overwrite the bootanimation.zip file in the /system/media directory (where every Android phone’s boot animation is). If you are rooted, you can change or replace the animation too, but it’ll change back if you update your ROM ;-)

        • Nikuliai

also, it tracks you position now so it can do the season boot on a correct way (autumn where I live), once it has the data or the app updates with a new boot animation, it will override the bootanimation file

      you’re*

    • Nikuliai

Yeah, let’s not cover the 50 updates Motorola has done just because people think we’re being payed from em

    • Trevor

If you’re gonna rip on the site, at least be grammatically correct. This is just sad.

  • Tyrone Biggums

It’s little things like this that make me regret never getting the Moto X.

  • tyguy829

You need to install the update to motorola boot services from the play store to see the change

  • BK

All you Moto X haters can say what you want, but this type of shiz is awesome

    • chaoslimits

This phone will be hard to let go off (unless X+1 is magical). I haven’t even strayed from stock rom.

    • BK

Just got the update. Interested to know more about the new permission it includes: “Use the phone power-up media based on location.”

      • Shane Redman

Probably as to not boot with the spring animation if you’re not in the hemisphere that is going into spring…

        • BK

That makes sense. I was also wondering if we might see different city or region based animations in the future, kind of how the headers for Google Now have.

In any case it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of boot accessing location data immediately. Just hope it doesn’t slow the process.

      • Nikuliai

I live in the south hemisphere, so if I get a winter theme I’ll let you know, no update yet

        • BK

          Cool, thanks!

      • Nikuliai

Got a autumn animation! a squirrel or something jumping in a tree to a couple of leafs -> pretty accurate, it’s autumn here, I have to clean the leafs :/

    • sc0rch3d

If you’ve ever rebooted your phone in public view to show off your boot up animation…..you might be an Android fan. *raises hand*

The little things make this phone great
