LG G2 Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) OTA Approved by Verizon, Here is the Changelog

lg g2 verizon

After seeing the Kit Kat (Android 4.4.2) update for Verizon’s version of the LG G2 become available through VZW’s Software Upgrade Assistant, we figured the OTA (over-the-air) update would rollout at any minute. Sure enough, Verizon has approved it and posted the changelog for build VS98024A, which means it really should be here with a couple of days, if not today for all to download.

The changelog talks of color adjustment, magnification gestures, and a whole bunch of other minor UI tweaks, probably to add some consistency to LG’s line of phones on Verizon. Of course, it also mentions the update to Android 4.4.2, but nothing else specific in terms of what Kit Kat offers other than new white notifications in the “Indicator Bar.”

As you all know, though, Kit Kat brings a better NFC payment system thanks to Host Card Emulation, performance improvements, better location settings controls, visually improved music controls to the lock screen, and more. Kit Kat is a pretty major update, even if Verizon doesn’t seem to realize that in this list of changes.

Let us know if you are able to pull the update!

Head into Settings>About phone.

I want to update, but I hear the battery life is now terrible.

    • EnterTheNexus

No it’s not. I’m getting excellent battery life.

      • sam browning

i am getting good battery life two.
but was not able to get the latest version of twrp to install properly got black screen in recovery mode and had to reflash back to stock config.

    • Jarrad TexasMade Blackshear

You have to let the battery cycle a couple of times after the update, then you should be back to normal battery life.

      • angelycam

I hope so cause this is ridiculous! Since update I’m losing battery fast and it used to last me 1 whole day with 15% to spare after streaming iheart radio 6 hours. Ugh!

    • Rickvill

It’s almost as bad as the galaxy nexus’ battery. It sucks so much to the point i want to factory reset and go back to JB…

    • Michelle

Immidiately following the update my battery went from 93% to 8% in an HOUR. My phone was also blazing hot (still is too…can’t make it stop unless I power it off completely). So powered down, I recharged fully and and in 3 hours it was at 4% with minimal use because nothing is working right anymore. It wont send texts on wifi or data at all, wont download anything from the play store. calls coming in dont come in right away, it phases in with the phone buzzing first, then 10 seconds later it rings, then 10 seconds later the screen catches up and realizes theres a call coming in and the answer button thing finally arrives so i can answer it IF the screen will respond (which it has quit doing on just about anything) and if voicemail hasn’t already picked up making me miss the call. Every single thing i do now is delayed 10-20 seconds before the phone responds. trying to type anything on the phone means i have to wait that long between each letter i press for it to register. I’ve only had this phone for 3 weeks and it has been the most beautiful 3 weeks with a phone ever and now i want to set it on fire.

      • srikanth raj

Better change your phone. its defected piece..

    • HarvesterX

I’m getting screen on time while surfing and playing games (Avabel to be exact) of over 5 and half hours with total on time of almost 7 hours. Avabel is a HUGE battery hog too. I think this issue is just the apps some people have that are battery intensive and that KitKat hates

  • Kim Loral

Verizon has really been advanced these days http://j.mp/R3WzZa

  • Juan F

Completed OTA update and somehow managed to keep root without any additional steps.

    • HarvesterX

Do you still have a custom recovery? From what I’ve read on XDA a stock recovery gets flashed replacing any custom ones already there and breaks the loki exploit leaving us stranded.

      • Juan F

Not sure. I flashed the ota and then checked root with root checker and it said I was still rooted.

        • HarvesterX

I read up it some more and it seems IOROOT was updated earlier this month that added KitKat support. A new method of flashing TWRP is also out, as long as you can get it rooted you should be fine…which has me feeling much better and also shows how out of touch I’ve been this month

  • Rafy286

Can anyone confirm if Google Wallet is working? I’m trying to keep my hopes up that it’ll work with my Note 3 Kitkat update whenever VZ decides to push that

    • mike770

      Google Wallet still works.

  • Ron

I got the OTA one earlier today. good thing since I couldn’t get the software upgrade assistant to work

  • Jeff Jones

Visual voicemail is not working after update

  • Mike H.

The update is awesome. The battery life is terrible. Play music doesn’t consume the lock screen (maybe that’s a Google launcher thing) I think the update fixed the sensor issue I was having?
Isis is now preinstalled for its uselessness
    Google drive comes installed
And the ota resets your notification toggles

For me it was worth the wait so that now nova will have a transparent nav bar.

    • Jillxz

Mine are all the same. Can’t tell they have been reset. In fact I can’t tell I even got an update except for the white/gray battery icon , poorer battery performance , and app s at bottom of display have had the line of separation removed. These are all the changes I have found. Oh and they did add “System Updates” to the settings . Its there after the ‘About Phone”

  • John Davids

Can anyone confirm that this update does not break the ability to crack the bootloader?

    • Jarrad TexasMade Blackshear

It does not break that ability. Use IORoot 25 and the AutoRec for all your rooting and recovery needs.

      • HarvesterX

That’s not what I’ve read over on XDA. If the information there is accurate then even worse is that the current loki bypasses don’t work anymore. I have no computer at the moment to test… If that’s true though it won’t being I assume before somebody has a new patch up.

  • Caveman

Now get “Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” Other than that OTA upgrade seems fine.

    • Xcalibur1011

I have the same situation, anyway to fix?

      • Xcalibur1011

        never mind

        • Caveman

          How did you fix it.

          • Xcalibur1011

Swift key is the reason for it. I uninstalled it, rebooted and the message was gone .

          • andie

I uninstalled Swift Key and rebooted my phone yesterday. STILL getting pop-up message today. PLUS a ton of other stuff going wrong today….I could write a book!!! This damn update has made my brand new wonderful LG G2 practically unusable.

          • HarvesterX

Oh just for archival purposes, the SwiftKey Beta that was released I think around May 15th± addresses the gapps force close issue several people have reported and apparently is fixed. Well, at least in the Beta as of now.

  • Nicholas Quintana

I want to get rid of the faded 4g LTE symbol when I turn the data off. Anyone know how to do that?

  • Jeff Broders

Been running leak since last week, and it’s fantastic (especially if rooted). Xdadebb camera mod is unbelievable. 4k recording, 120 fps(720p), magic focus, etc

  • Rich Robinson

Stock Root, deleted SUser, all Root Apps, Xposed and all modules, never did a recovery, received error code#: 0x1117008 five times. Did a Factory Reset and again got the error code. Can’t find anything online as to why this will not take – suggestions??!

    • TruEastSydeBoi

Did you restore bloat apps you might of froze or uninstalled? You might have to just tot back.

      • Rich Robinson

All that bloat bs came back on once I factory reset my phone. I’m reading about unrooting now but it actually looks harder than rooting in the first place! This is beyond frustrating!

        • rvstokes

Same exact problem here…Let me know if you find a resolution. I will do the same.

          • rvstokes

I don’t understand why we would even have to un-root if many on here got the update while still rooted.

          • Rich Robinson

After about 3 hours of unrooting, downloading 3 OTA updates from Verizon (A, then B, then 4.4.2) I am updated to Kit Kat. Then i used the IOroot method to root again and install Xposed. It was a bear but it’s working like a champ now. I’d use this method “Installing Firmware on Verizon LG G2″ found here: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-restore-lg-g2-to-stock-firmware/
The key that got me stuck is to make sure in your Device Manager that you match the same COM. Mine was set for COM2 in Device Manager and the LG FlashTool needs it at COM41. It’s easy to do but you just need to do it. Good Luck

          • Rich Robinson
  • qudwls6933

    Where are u samsung????

  • BobBob

So far I have not been able to get “Ok Google” voice control to work from home screen (only from Google now screen) and the Immersive mode doesn’t seem to work in any games, kindle, etc it still has on screen buttons. I am missing ways to enable these? Also how do you all like the hideous Verizon Wireless tag on the notification pull down? Seriously Verizon!

    • Brian

AFAIK, “OK Google” from the home screen isn’t baked into KitKat, it’s part of “Google Home” launcher.

      • Artune

I just sold a Galaxy S5 to a customer at work today and the “Ok google” worked right from the homescreen, I was amazed! So I tried it on my G2 and total fail. Customer got a good laugh out of that.

    • joejoe5709

Ok Google is a Nexus/Motorola thing as far as I know. Immersive Mode needs to be built into the app by the developer so there will always be inconsistency there. As with anything, rooting will take care of your problems. Check out Xposed Framework and within it check out G2Xposed, G2 Tweakbox, Gavitybox, and something like Force Immersive Mode.

  • James Cook

Just showed up OTA in Delaware

  • Samsmome

I have the white lg g2. Did the update this morning on my computer. Had no problems. I am running stock. So, for all the white lg g2 it can be done.

    • ChristianPasquariello

it just boggles the mind that the case color would have anything to do with anything. Nothing suprises me however.

  • Richard

Is anybody else having trouble with visual voicemail?

    • GJV

Yes, it costs a bunch of money and Google Voice does a better job for free. That’s my problem with Visual Voicemail.

    • Tsabhira

Refuses to work for me. Data service N/A, blah blah.

  • MajorDanger

OTA pulled and waiting on the White LG G2..glad I didn’t have to deal with the software assistant..

  • Allen George

OTA popped up on a Co-Workers phone. I’ve been running it since the sideload was posted on XDA like a month ago.

  • Allen George

It’s about time — too bad the batter life on this update is WAY worse for me that the 4.2.2 update we had (12B)

  • Jason King

The software update tool never worked for me, but after reading this post…immediately went to check OTA updates on the phone and it was available.

    • Jason King

OTA was short of 700MB…not 2GB like the software update tool has. Is everyone else seeing the same thing?

      • ChristianPasquariello

        yes

  • ericpitt01

    Ota update downloading right now.

  • Nate

I have to leave my G2 on 4.2….Radio recording software only works with 4.2. I just hope my VZW S4 will see 4.4 soon!

    • Fran

I’m in the same boat as you I have a note 3. I wish I had a Dev edition, then I’d already have it. I want to try out that new google camera app. I tired the APK but it still wouldn’t work.

      • Jarrad TexasMade Blackshear

The Google Camera is good but nothing mind blowing.. in all reality your note 3’s camera in my opinion is better

  • Voyageur

Anyone know why the size of the OTA update is so much smaller than the one with the VZW Software Upgrade Assistant?

    • mike

I believe the ota is just under 700mb

      • Voyageur

Yes, the previous article for downloading the update using VZW Software Upgrade Assistant mentions that “the update weighs in at around 2GB”. I’m wondering what the discrepancy is between sizes and which method I should actually use to update my G2.

        • chris125

If it’s anything like IOS, OTA only adds what is new, the other does a fresh install of the whole thing

  • ACR3597

It appears the update is OTA because it just downloaded OTA for me

  • coolbreeze

    Screen shot

    • wagner

Remove your Qslide for more space. In your Quick launch bar goto edit and uncheck the Qslide box. Profit!

      • Captain Spaulding

Here’s what it can look like with root and Xposed Framework, G2 Tweaksbox, and G2 Xposed.

        • Captain Spaulding

      • cgmartin33

I’m not seeing an option to remove Qslide…would love to though!

        • Smeckle

Go to the quick settings edit screen and check the box for Qslide. It will add Qslide to your quick settings. Then simply turn it off in quick settings and then go back to the edit screen and uncheck the box to remove it completely. See the screen shot below. Check that box…the rest should be straightforward from there.

          • cgmartin33

Smeckle…thank you sir…I appreciate the screenshot as well. Removed it from quick settings afterwards as well…looks extremely clean now. Moving on to Xposed next ;)

          • Jillxz

There are no Qslide settings on mine. It says Qslide apps and you can unchek the apps , but no Qslide is showing to uncheck the Qslide. I wish I could do this.

          • maccham

Add the qslide to your quick settings….it will be up in with the WiFi ,location and sound toggle in the pull down..then you simply uncheck it…where it looks greyed out no longer blue

          • Jillxz

The Qslide apps that are in my Notification area are apps not settings. When I click the settings , it shows all those in the quick toggle notification area. It says when I click the edit Richnote , videos , Email,Phone, voice Mate, File Manager , Calendar , Cauculator Messaging. All these are checked , but their is nothing to unceck for qslide. These are the apps all checked on the qslide. No qside as an app to uncheck.

    • SplashMTN

They kept the battery, wifi and signal strength icons blue? That would drive me nuts.

      • GJV

He’s downloading the OTA, meaning he doesn’t have it installed yet. Icons are white on 4.4.2.

        • SplashMTN

Can’t believe I missed that. It makes much more sense now.

    • qudwls6933

I thought 4.4.2 get white color for the battery icon, signal icon, and wifi icon on the bar

    • Adrian

Is there anyway i can get the previous software before this update?

      • RockLobster

Me2. Kit Kat took a Shat on the specific email notify icons. Now it just a white @

      • Elaine Boyce

Lol I am on phone no. 2 since update. The microphone in 1st one died after update so no one could hear me when I called. Not on handset, speaker or Bluetooth. While on phone with Verizon, I made a point to ask if the replacement would be updated they said no. I was ecstatic for 24 hours then hit startup menu and. . . Black and white! Still lags,”loss of service” is all I can see most of time, when screen loads is blurred at first now, have been on a charger for an hour. Plugged in at 9% now have a big 11%! Almost makes you wonder if this “update” which conveniently hit just prior to the g3 was more a marketing strategy than anything else?

    • Guest

You should check that voicemail, it might be important

  • Coolbreeze

Huge file, 31 minute download. Live in the NC area

  • Coolbreeze

Getting update now over the air from Verizon

  • pubasnacks77

Has anyone else noticed a slight battery drain since the update?

    • TJ Walsh

Yes I did. So i let it drain till empty then recharged to full and so far this morning it seems back to normal/slightly better then when on 4.2.2. I have also heard of others doing a hard reset which helped as well.

  • Buckoman

*Cough cough* Galaxy S4 *cough cough* I’ve been waiting for months and every other *cough* carrier has it *hacks up lung*

Didn’t Verizon plan it for some time in January?

    • chris125

      Rumored for May 2nd

    • HarvesterX

Has completely nothing to do with the OTA KitKat release for the LG G2. Congratulations on randomly jumping into a topic just to promote a device.

      • Buckoman

Easy, Chopper. I was just comparing devices’ Kit Kat updates with some mild humour. Congratulations on needing every article to focus on one thing and one thing only. If criticising other people’s comment choices rings your bell of fun on Wednesday night, that’s a tad sad.

        • HarvesterX

My apologies mate. I reread what you said and realized I was having a moronic moment. Thought you were taking about something else. If you live close, I’ll buy ya a beer.

  • warenmac

Downloaded the updated, but it was unsuccessful when trying to install. I’ll try again. My phone is rooted, any ideas?

    • acejavelin

You need stock recovery, TWRP/CWM/PhilZ won’t work. Also, if you removed too much or just the wrong thing it will fail. Best to restore via TOT/KDZ, take OTA to 12B, then upgrade to 24A, reroot with ioroot25, and enjoy.

      • warenmac

I am using stock recovery, but I did disable a lot of stuff. Thanks

  • yankeesusa

Does google wallet tap and pay work? So you can stuff isis in verizons face.

    • panicswhenubered

I’m running Malladus 2.0.1 based off the 24a update and Tap and Pay works with Google Wallet.

  • Colin Batchelor

Notification went off in my pocket, figured it was stupid Candy Crush or something, turned out to be Kit Kat needless to say I ran to my charger and hit “install now”

! It said 24 minutes, 35% done right now

  • DavidB
    • Anjulie

David where are you? I left you a message regarding your gaming problem! I have the help lined up for you! Check our last conversation!

  • Dave

so I’ve been complaining and waiting for months, and the difference is so miniscule. I feel sort of foolish.

    • Tsabhira

But the transparent on-screen buttons. TRANSPARENT BUTTONS, MAN. (But seriously, that’s what I wanted. Superficial? Hell yes.)

      • Jillxz

        Mine are not transparent.

      • HarvesterX

Neither are mine. Not in the Optimus UI launcher and not abscess l anywhere else. Mind sharing how you got yours transparent?

      • HarvesterX

Somehow here I posted that mine weren’t transparent and asked you to tell it’s how. I’m a moron, they are transparent on the launcher…duh.

  • duke69111

Does it add the recents key and does it include Knock code?

    • Jonathan

      Dying to know this too…

    • Atrain

      No to both.

    • Ron

I was hoping for Knock Code, but no such luck

  • http://www.pcprocare.com/ Barry Taylor

Has anyone confirmed any changes from the leaked version?

    • Jarrad TexasMade Blackshear

      No

  • Rodeojones000

Had this update for a while now, thanks to the fantastic developer following on XDA.

  • Ryan

Downloading now. Wasn’t able to update through the windows method the other day. Something about LGMobileDL.dll missing error constantly.

    • keithsmith22

That’s the stupid error I kept getting.

  • Aj Bastedo

cant pull the update whats the procedure again to try to get it sent to you?? google services or something

    • Aj Bastedo

      nevermind..pulling it now…

  • BillySuede

    SO ABOUT THAT NOTE 3….

    • The Narrator

      You’ll never get it

      • Havoc70

        No kidding, stupid ass Verizon

  • chris125

Good to see this device finally getting kit kat. Took awhile, but should be a great improvement and if it’s the last update it receives, at least you have kit kat and the ability to get the latest google apps.

  • wagner

I can feel the performance improvements, but that’s about it. If anything your can stop thinking about the release of kit kat.
PS The notification bar lost the 911 icon :)

  • Rich Robinson

Noob ?: Anyone know if rooted, no recovery, just Xposed, VS98012B can pull the OTA? Thanks in advance…

    • Rich Robinson

Check that – just got the update!

      • Rich Robinson

3 OTA downloads and 3 error messages installing. Deleted all Xposed modules and Uninstalled Super. Need help…

    • Milind Shah

Yup but uninstall xposed before you start the update though, otherwise it won’t work

  • The Narrator

improved visual voicemail and more bloat…. Verizon…http://www.reactiongifs.us/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/nevermind_nathan_fillion.gif

    • Milind Shah

Man do you have like 1000 different links that are categorized so that you can pull one of these each time there’s an article made?

      • Dave

He has nothing but free time on his hands, down in his mom basement.

          • Dave

      • The Narrator

        It’s called Googling

  • Dan Lopez

    About effin time!!!

  • Mark Danner

Unfortunately, it is still not available for White LG g2’s…. Grrr….

    • Cael

      How racist of them.

    • Ray

Yes because the color of your phone determines the order of updates. Laugh

      • Ken Bosse

there’s people all over the place saying the White G2 hasn’t gotten it yet. Strange, but thats what they are reporting

      • mike770

I received the OTA as well. My G2 is white. Sorry.

    • mike

I got it an hour ago. Mine is white. In ky. Perhaps it hasn’t hit your area yet

      • Mark Danner

Yep! I just got it too here in California.

    • http://infotainmentempire.blogspot.com Rob

My white G2 is updating right now.

    • Tsabhira

I have the white one and it’s updating ota for me right this minute. Also in Cali.

  • litobirdy

Is there a list anywhere for all the bloatware 3rd party apps we can safely remove using titanium back up after rooting? I want stock firmware rooted but w/o all the bloat

  • Alex Coldstone Simon

downloaded it yesterday through the helper app on windows, already rooted again with ioroot25. :)

    • Guest

      did you “unroot” before download?

      • Alex Coldstone Simon

        nope.

        • srikanth raj

Common man you cant download OTA once you root/unroot the phone? i bricked my phone, all i have done is unroot and accept the OTA.

  • El_Big_CHRIS

    Welcome to KitKat ;)
