Beautiful Widgets Update to Version 5.6 Brings New Widgets

An update to Beautiful Widgets, one of the longest running widget apps available for Android, has an update to version 5.6 this morning. In the update, users will be happy to see a new selection of widgets, which focus more on looks than adding any type of “new” functionality to the widget’s purpose.

In addition to new widgets, the app received a few bug fixes, as well as a new “color picker,” which will help users get that perfect look for the current theme they are running on any given device.

The update is now live for both the paid and freemium versions of the app.

Head on over to Google Play to check it out.

decent forecast animations … ugly widgets

  • Frank

Those are some FUGLY widgets. It’s like they took the worst of Motorola’s dead Blur, and Touchwiz to make them….I think I just threw up a little.

Heads up if you’re running ART, this update might not be compatible. I just installed this update and my Moto X rebooted itself, then booted up to a black screen. Held the power button down, and it vibrated, but still black screen. Held Power + Vol Down and it rebooted, and immediately started optimizing the apps. I checked the developer settings and it switched itself off of ART back to the Dalvik runtime. WTF?

I’m running ART on Nexus 5. Worked fine for me.

Can’t get the “store” to load anything

I feel bad. I’ve owned this application since first getting my OG Droid, but since DashClock, it’s been pretty much orphaned by my devices..

1Weather is still the go to weather widget/app

I liked 1Weather but now having any hotspots to go to external app/weather site was annoying for extra details.

Is it just me…..or has Beautiful Widgets gotten…..less Beautiful?

What’s the name of that Clock Widget?

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

Again, that DarkEdge theme was bad.

  • EdubE24

    Still love this app!!

Might have to install BW again after 2 years

I actually was thinking about installing it this morning before I knew about the update. I just couldn’t remember my password for an old Google account. I might actually reset and try again.

That video should be an ad for Google Talk, rather than BW. Talk about not relevant.

I think this was my first paid app back when I had the OG Droid, I used this all the time, hoping the new widgets will bring some fans back.

DTG was my first paid OG Droid app, I think. But BW was right up there along with Aldiko Premium (or whatever it was called previously) and a couple games. I’ll never forget the endless questions about “What clock widget is that?” I was initially cautious about spending too much on Android apps because I thought the entire ecosystem might fizzle out ala WebOS. Witnessing how many people I knew on VZW bought the OG the first 2 months it was on the market assuaged those fears.

      Mine too! On the OG.

  • jeanbaze

what is the camera app on the picture ? please

  • BK

BW used to dominate the widget game, but they got caught sleeping as better looking and more innovative competitors emerged. This was one of the first apps I ever paid for, but I stopped using it long ago.

    • litobirdy

      any recommendations?

      • JSo

Eye in the sky is pretty good.

      • ReturnOfTheMack

1Weather is keeping me from using BW.

    • David

      What do you use instead?

      • BK

I’ve tried a bunch over the years (different ones for weather, clock and calendar): HD Widgets, Fancy Widgets, Yahoo, Weather Channel, Accuweather, Weather Bug, Simple Calendar Widget, etc. etc. Now I stick with official Google widgets or none at all. I got sick of trying to figure the best combination of functionality, customization, RAM usage, and battery drain.

Plus with Google Now a quick swipe away, doesn’t seem worth it anymore.

I am a widgetaholic and have tried out lots of them. My current favorite is WeatherLove for both the easily configurable widget and the great weather interface it gives you when you open it up. But, I am definitely going have to try out good old BW again on at least one of my devices.

UCCW has so much potential it’s completely replaced BW for me.

I’m digging Yahoo weather these days. The widget isn’t the best (and not customizable at all), but I love the weather app. I hated how tapping on a day in the weather in BW just took you to a mobile web page for accuweather. They should have addressed that a long time ago. Yes, you can set it to open a weather app, but it should have been a complete package.
