Pandora Update Brings Highly Requested Alarm Clock Feature

Pandora listeners can go grab the latest update for the popular music streaming app, which features the highly-requested Alarm Clock feature. In addition to a full working alarm clock, Pandora has threw in a few bug fixes and other small improvements for the app.

The alarm clock works quite nicely, once a user selects a station to wake up to. To try it out, I fashioned up a Too Short station and set the time I wanted to get up. Once it hits that time, the app starts streaming from that station. You can then turn the alarm off or hit snooze right from your lockscreen. Worked like a charm.

To check out the full changelog, look below.

What’s New

  • By popular demand, our new alarm clock lets you start your day with Pandora on your Android smartphone
  • Pick one of your favorite stations to wake up to – if you like what you hear, you can keep the music playing
  • Set and forget – customize how often your alarm repeats throughout the week
  • Need a few extra minutes of shut eye? Hit snooze to catch more zzz’s
  • Use with the sleep timer to listen to music you love morning and night
  • Other small improvements and bug fixes

A bug I reported to them several months ago is still there. If you take a wifi-only tablet, turn the wifi off, and use Bluetooth tethering to provide it with an internet connection, Pandora crashes on startup.

  • Crashed 3 times in a row trying to set an alarm. finally got it to go… we’ll see. (I now of course don’t trust it to wake me up for work and will leave the other alarm active.)

this is called the Troll moment bit.ly/1e03kAq

  • AndrewScottRox

That alarm must be set in Colorado.

    • Chris

      but wheres the guns?

  • Ian Smith

Too Short radio and The Chronic – are those stock images? That’s a hilarious music selection.

    • Jpx

Lol it’s cracking me up because Pandora Media shares its Headquarters in the same building that I work at in Oakland. Makes sense for the Too Short Radio

  • Droid Ronin

Great! I always start Pandora as I go about my morning routine, but this app update works nicely. Two birds…

  • Dustin

Alarm clock feature but still no expandable notification with Pause/Play buttons? I think their priorities are a bit backwards…

    • Fresh2infinity

One of the main reasons I left them a one star review this should be a requirement for a music app!! all they want is for you to open the app to see their annoying ads….thank God for ad blockers

      • zurginator

Or Pandora One. I listen to like 10 hours of music a day though, so $3 a month is great.

      • otter34

Which apps block Pandora ads? I had ad blocker and adaway installed but still heard them.

A related question is where do I find an ad blocker now that they aren’t in the Google market anymore? I rerooted my phoneand was on constantly surprised to find out they’re not in the App Store anymore

        • otter34

Meant unpleasantly. Stupid kit kat wouldn’t let me switch from voice to text back to text

    • LionStone

      Yea! Like Slacker!

  • Michael Quinlan

I’m certain I’m in the minority here, but I have no interest in this alarm clock feature. To me it’s just more feature bloat.

  • emoney

they had me at Xxplosive from 2001

  • Wazzifer

I find it hilarious that people still use Pandora.

    • Rodeojones000

I find it hilarious that people criticize the choices and opinions of others online.

    • Chris

so people use pandora. so what? the world does not revolve around spotfly or google play music all access…(what a name)

      • Wazzifer

Sure thing, enjoy your 3-4 tracks via artist (if you’re lucky) that Pandora keeps looping for you.

        • Chris

          I use slacker

          • Wazzifer

            Then shut the phuck up.

Can you set multiply alarms? I don’t see where?

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

EVERY music subscription app needs this. . . . . I’m looking at you SPOTIFY….And you Google Play All Access Remix HD PLUS

    • Mauricio Sanchez

Hahaha, Google Play All Access Remix HD PLUS. I would totally use that app.

I still can’t believe All Access doesn’t have a sleep timer or alarm clock yet. Which is why I still use Tune In radio app, that and I can listen to any radio station across the world with it and rewind and record live music.

  • MikeCiggy

Looks like Pandora is also a supporter of Colorado’s new laws?

    • Daeshaun Griffiths

i’m pretty sure it’s the Dr. Dre song playing.

      • MikeCiggy

I figured it was an album cover but they could have chosen a different stock photo with a different album cover. Instead this is what they chose. lol

        • Chris

          times a pot head

  • Alex S

They FINALLY put the sleep timer back on phones. Now I can start using it again!

  • False_au

Hmm..wonder what Spotify is going to do.

  • Christopher Brown

If only Google Music had the alarm clock feature. Or am I missing it?

    • baconslayer09

You can make your own. Use Trigger and set a task to be done based on time (it comes at the price of an in app purchase though). Set it to start the music app of your choice and start playback. You won’t really get to choose what it plays, it just picks up where you left off from before.

  • Cesar

This update might make me start using Pandora again.

  • Bloodthirsty

    Updated, tried it, worked perfect.

  • Adam Truelove

Hooray, now I can hope I wake up on time, but instead Pandora crashes or buffers indefinitely.

    • It’s possible lol

    • Adrynalyne

LOL, a buffering alarm clock :p

    • Michael

Nah, you’ll just wake up to an advertisement.

      • Riz Virani

        Pandora One.. It’s only $36 a year 🙂

        • Adam Truelove

Doesn’t prevent the app from sucking.

          • Riz Virani

Well, it prevents the advertisements. Also, what kind of data connection do you have at home that you’re buffering on Pandora? Hell, on Sprint I was loading quickly enough to not have any wait times between songs unless on 3g..

        • StuckOnVerizonForever

I get it free through HitBliss.

      • joejoe5709

    • LionStone

Only time I’ve had buffering is in the mountains on 2G, other than that it’s pretty stable…no crashes either.
