Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition 4.4.2 Update Rolling Out

Not to be outdone by HTC, Samsung has finalized an update to Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H) for Galaxy S4 GPE owners. The OTA file – I9505GUEUCML4 – is the latest version of Android, and includes a device-specific bug fix.

Most importantly, the update fixes a network status indicator issue present since the first Galaxy S4 GPE KitKat firmware. Instead of erroneously mislabeling HSPA/HSPA+ connections as “3G”, as was previously the behavior, they’re now correctly displayed as “H”. In addition, Android 4.4.2 brings a number of welcome enhancements and improvements, including an updated camera app and subtle UI tweaks.

Let us know in the comments if you’ve received the update. If you haven’t, the update is available for your flashing pleasure from Google’s servers.

I own a t-mo s4, I’ve rooted it, can I use the GPE rom on my phone? I’ve still yet to get 4.3 (#ThanksTMobile) and would love to jump ahead

So the regular galaxy s4 isn’t going to get the update afterall???

  • Ugh direct download links.

Clicked the hyperlink on “Google’s servers” accidentally, and boom I was downloading a file for my nonexistent S4. 🙂

Can someone tell me if there is a 4.4 flashable update available? I’ve unlocked my bootloader using TWRP and now i cant flash the stock ota update and i want to be on kitkat without having to start fresh.. Thanks

    • Alex Buck

  • and this is why i bought the Google Edition

  • Justin Munson

Hopefully get some nice customs roms rolling too… Go devs

Would love to hear some sort of time table from Samsung for the U.S. versions of the S4. Not just guesses from the community.

    • DanSan

yea, maybe then ill ditch CM and ill go back to TW… as much as i hate to say it.

I have no issue with Touchwiz on my S4. Actually I kind of like it.

I like to flash ROMs and tend to prefer the Touchwiz ROMs over the aosp options.

        • ogcritic

Yeah I haven’t found any Roms that beat the touchwiz battery life

This is test #2 for the Moto X. Let’s see how fast this update rolls out, especially since 4.4 has some pretty serious concerns with Exchange email support. It’s still good to see the GPE devices being updated this quickly.

Hurry up with the Verizon version.

    • Kyle Wiggers

I’m in the same boat. That’s why I rooted, though it wasn’t easy.

      • Colton

I saw on xda that there’s a root method (via adb) that doesn’t look complicated. works for all 4.3 updates. probably gonna go for it tonight BUT don’t think safestrap works for it yet

        • Bombmistro

There is a very easy (pratically one click) option for rooting s3 and newer samsung products

  • DanSan

oh yes! hopefully this will make a clean port over to the verizon GS4!!

    • nabooska

Probably three months from now 🙁

      • Godzilla

was hoping for January but yeah……probably March at best.

    • jbegs

Maybe we can get 4.3 on the Note II first?

      • FknTwizted

fell like the red head step-child owning a Samsung product… N2 is chomping at the bit to get an update.

        • jbegs

I don’t only feel like the red headed step-child… I am. The red hair that is, not a step-child.
