“OK Google Now, Let’s Go Caroling” Brings in the Holiday Cheer on Your Phone

Still haven’t managed to get into the holiday spirit? Grab your phone, open Google Search, tap the microphone, and say “let’s go caroling.” If you own a Moto X (or new DROID), don’t bother touching your phone, simply say “OK, Google Now, let’s go caroling.” With a Nexus 5, feel free to say the same thing from the home screen.

Tap a song, sing along. Happy holidays, from Google.

Cheers Jigga_Z!

How do you stop the caroling. Mine every 30 mins or so restarts the song.

Even though “OK Google ‘Now'” may work, you don’t need to say “Now”. Just say, “OK Google..Let’s go caroling!” 🙂

  • MGardnerDA1235

I DON’T WANT TO ‘TAP A SONG.’ How come I can’t just keep speaking once it gives me options???

  • duke69111

    That is kind of cool!

  • EdubE24

Google just showed how wrong I have been on the words in some of these songs.

  • Chris

I work retail. I’m BEYOND good when it comes to the holiday spirit.

  • Curtis

Not that I give a care, but iOS folks can enjoy Caroling Karaoke too.

    • AbbyZFresh

iOS users don’t give a damn about Google Now. They’re all stuck on Siri.

      • Curtis

        But… I… We.. Fine.

      • Chris

        google now is on iOS

      • Adrynalyne

Even iOS users know that Google Now is awesome.

  • cgalyon

Hah, nice! Do wish we could customize the Moto X activation phrase though. Not sure why we can’t just train our own phrase… guess narrowing it down to a specific phrase makes detection easier.

  • James Vincent

    So funny! Thanks Kellen

  • Rik Nary

If you go to Google Maps settings you can chromecast Santa’s Village. Pretty neat touch by the Maps team

  • xhozt

    no workie here ..

  • TechWings

Another reason Google Now is so much win.

  • Milind Shah

umm this is unrelated, but can you get rid or blacklist ads with annoying popups like these? Thanks!

      • Milind Shah

I have stopped using adblock as I quickly realized that this is their revenue and we aren’t allowing our favourite sites and people (some youtubers) won’t earn that much

  • Mark

oh whacking day, oh whacking day
    our hallowed snake skull-cracking day

  • Tarel Washington

I can say ” Ok Google now” on my Droid maxx

    • So true. FIXED. 😀

      • Milind Shah

update your about section…kind of old now 😛

  • Tirionfive

Next article: Kellen and Tim on video, Caroling with their phones.

  • TSON1

The timing’s off on my Droid DNA :'(

    • Fiorta

      Works fine on mine.

  • test

  • Edward Montano

It AUTO-CHANGED my notification to carol every notification! No more carols please!!!

    • cameron

I don’t know how to turn it off either

  • david papst

Yep very cool works great with boom sound on HTC One

  • Larizard

Sorry I held on to this too long. Decided to go with the nexus 5.. Moto X, anyone? Expires tonight.. H2DM-BSZV-WA6R-EACA-TO9C

    • evltwn

I believe it expired at 11:59pm EST.

  • AbbyZFresh

I love the way the article just put the Moto X on a top pedestal in that last sentence.

    • Lucky Armpit

And totally forgets that the Droid Maxx, Ultra, and Mini do the same thing. Don’t understand why they are the red-headed stepchildren to the Moto X.

      • JNo

Going to call you a wambulance

        • 3M4NU31

He’s not himself when he’s hungry. What he needs is a wahburger and some french cries

          • Josh Flowers

all i hear is KidRock spouting this line from Joe Dirt.

        • Lucky Armpit

Lol, 1987 called and wants their line back. Way to be original. Totally missed my point. I have nothing against the Moto X; I just don’t understand why the Maxx Mini and Ultra are all but forgotten when they are basically the same phone.

          • MK17

It is kind of ironic considering Droid-Life started as a Verizon exclusive focused site and now the Verizon exclusive phones aren’t getting a mention.

That’s cool with me though. Those phones were an afterthought of the Moto X done to appease the overlord Verizon.

      • Elliot Kotis

That is because Moto X is the flagship, you dont hear any competition between galaxy s4 and s4 mini. And you could go “they are verizons flagships”, And I would reply….VZW is crap.

        • Except the specs of the Maxx are better than the X

          • Jonathan Figueroa

Yes it does and it also looks like a robot turd. A VZW robot turd to be exact. The Moto X is the flagship for more reasons then just specs. On a side note the Galaxy Note 3 has better specs then the S4, the S4 is still the flagship for Samsung.

          • Adrynalyne

For more reasons? Lets hear them.

As for the S4 being a flagship over the Note 3, no. Just…no.

Believe it or not, there is a plural of flagship, called flagships.

          • Weber

Flagsheep? Flagshipe? I feel flagships is too boring.

          • Adrynalyne

            I like Flagsheep :p

          • JoshGroff

            I second (Third?) that!

      • Nathan D

Looks like he has updated the article.

  • “Let’s go Caroline.”

    “Let’s go Carolyn.”

    “Let’s go Carolina.”

    I hate caroling anyway.

    • El_Big_CHRIS

lol mine got it on the 1st try. Pretty cool 🙂

      • Apparently I don’t speak well.

        • Joshua

          no dought

        • Weber

You mean you don’t speak good?

        • CHRIS42060

          You’ve got to enunciate. lol

      • michael arazan

It automatically changed carolina to caroling and listed DL and every article for the function, BUT NOT the function itself. Still doesn’t work on GS3, I blame touchwiz

        • GVLBob

Works fine on my Galaxy S4. So not a TW failure.

        • It did that same thing on a coworkers GS3, wait for it… GOT IT!

    • Jaime Kerr

Awesome. Cause the world needs more ways to do karaoke of SWEEEEET CAROLINE!

  • Albert

    I enjoy Google.

    • AbbyZFresh

You enjoy a your data being collected and sold to advertising companies?

      • TheDrunkenClam

Much rather it go to private companies than having my government using it for ANY reason.

      • You must be lost.

      • 3M4NU31

      • KingofPing

Google doesn’t sell your data. If you are going to hate on Google, try actually having a clue about what you are talking about.

Google collects your data in a database, of it’s own, and offers advertisers Google’s platform (the ability to target ads based on the data they have collected in their database).

At no time does the advertiser have access to any of Google’s stored personal data. Not a single claim of “Google sold me data” has ever been produced with evidence proving the act occurred.
