AT&T Launches Six New 4G LTE Markets

AT&T announced the availability of 4G LTE in six new markets this morning, spanning from parts of Minnesota on south to Ohio. It is nowhere near the biggest push we have seen, but AT&T is currently filling in some weak points in their coverage, with more launches expected to happen sometime in the future. They still have a bit more to catch up to Verizon, who is already busy trying to launch VoLTE devices, but AT&T is on their way.

New Markets:

  • Rockford, Illinois
  • Owatonna, Minnesotta
  • Rochester, Minnesota
  • Fairmont, Minnesota
  • Youngstown-Warren, Ohio
  • Williston, North Dakota

Enjoy those speeds.

At&t needs to outbeat verizons coverage and 4g/4g lte services!

  • Mikey Styles

Lets tame our shots towards either side peeps. Yes At&t does have some faster speeds & Verizon more often than not has the coverage. But the fact remains that only 30% of At&t’s customer base uses their LTE network whereas Verizon has 70%-80% of theirs using LTE. Not to also mention 2 states(NY & CA) carry most of their(At&t) LTE data traffic. Other place’s do have it obviously but every honest Rep I know says this. The bottom line is- neither are going anywhere anytime soon & its gonna be a dog fight for yrs to come.

uhhhh, st.cloud MN is still not launched. I mean its the 7th biggest city in the state. Sprint and Verizon both have LTE here.

    • Adamania

      Yay for Duluth!

  • josh

at this rate, might as well switch to AT&T. I mean, they get all the exclusives

  • Jordan Pfingsten

Damnit, come to NDs largest city already please. Verizon covers almost the entire state in LTE. ATT, stop covering just the oil patch!

    • panzerapple

AT&T was waiting for the Verizon lease to end on a bunch of old Alltel towers it ended in June so we should be getting Lte in the valley soon I hope it is on band 4 so my N4 works to.

      • Jordan Pfingsten

I’m very content with my Hspa+ here in Fargo, but I had Verizons LTE for awhile before I went to ATT and I can’t wait for LTE from ATT to just kickass.

        • panzerapple

Verizon Lte is useless in Fargo 250 kbps it was what was when I left. Very happy with a solid 2 to 6 mobs on my n4. I love listening to all my friends with Verizon complain.

          • Jordan Pfingsten

You were doing something wrong, although I was probably the first in Fargo when LTE lit up. Now my HSPA+ beats my GFs LTE.

          • panzerapple

DROID charge I was also one of the first then the gnex and the gf had the S3. Horrible speeds and everyone complains when they come to Fargo.

Minnesota? Jesse Ventura wrote a book about a conspiracy theory about AT&T using LTE to manipulate humans to vote republican because of big corporations buying the seat in Washington

  • Appleanche

Why would you use the HTC One as the example for AT&T, you heartless bastard..

    • Ron Jeremy

Had it been Ron writing this article I’m sure the image would have been worse…

  • DroidRockets

I don’t care if AT&T has LTE ++ their service sucks baaaad.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

      What do you mean?….

      • DroidRockets

Dropped calls everyday in large city (Cincinnati), No signal in there own building (AT&T call center downtown Dayton), Spotty coverage in rural areas around major cities. Just to name a few things.. These aren’t things that I’m hearing, they are things that I experience everyday on my work phone… your turn.

        • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

          I don’t have a turn…was just asking.

          • DroidRockets

My personal phones are on Verizon. I take issue with many things that they do but call quality and service isn’t one of them. If you do make that switch good luck.

          • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

I’ve had both at the same time in different cities… it pretty much boils down to where you are…just like any other carrier.

  • Tyler Durden

at this rate, might as well switch to AT&T. I mean, they get all the exclusives

    • Señorita Durden

Sad but true. Exclusive device launches and the ability to use unlocked devices. Had my contract with Sprint ended later I probably would have gone to AT&T…but I signed a contract with the red devil.

      • hkklife

AT&T’s speeds for LTE absolutely demolish Verizon in most places I have been over the past 18-20 months or so.
They really could put a hurt on VZW by simply upping their data allowances or dropping prices slightly. Just this year I have known several businesses and individuals who switched to AT&T specifically due to the reasons cited above(BYOD or to get a certain handset such as the G Pro, One, S4 Active or the 32GB S4

        • John Davids

This is only because ATT’s LTE network is brand new and lots of ATT customers have yet to get an LTE phone. Not many have migrated to it yet (compared to VZW anyway). Give it 6-12 months.

  • Terrence

North Dakota eh? Didn’t know AT&T covered Canada too.

    • In North Dakota, the state tree is a telephone pole and the only thing there is to do, really, is drink and shoot prairie dogs.

      • michael arazan

North Dakota where the cows outnumber the people. Still every state has it’s own beautiful scenery. I’ve driven through 3/4 of the US and recommend driving through the states when you can

  • Greg Morgan

Just bought an unlocked HTC One. Going to give their prepaid a try and see how it is.

    • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Same boat as you my friend…. My Dev Edition is out for delivery right now. About to jump on that $60 plan. And Nuking my VZW….selling my S4

  • Williston, ND…home of America’s next big oil boom. I have no qualms in admitting I’m a huge fan of AT&T LTE. Here in the Durham, NC area, the data speeds blow Verizon’s out of the water. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

    • BenderBendingRodriguez0101001

Definitely enjoy it while it lasts because a lot of the iSheep still on the iPhone 4 and 4s will boggle AT&T LTE down once the next iPhone is released.

      • My thoughts exactly. Add future iPhones on top of the fact that AT&T is on a roll with Android exclusives and yeah, it’s only a matter of time until the network speeds start suffering.
