Motorola Connect and Migrate Go Live in Chrome and Play Stores Before Moto X Reveal

Screen Shot 2013-08-01 at 7.58.48 AM

Hours before the official reveal of the Moto X, two new Motorola-powered apps have popped up in both Chrome and Google Play stores with ties to the insanely hyped device. One is Motorola Connect, a Chrome extension that allows you to see text messages and calls coming through your “Connect enabled phone” in Chrome. The other is an Android app that helps you migrate “photos, videos, SIM contacts, and even your call and text history” from your current phone to one of Motorola’s new devices.

Here is the description for Connect, which includes “Moto X”:

Motorola Connect allows you to see text messages and calls coming into your Connect enabled phone on your computer’s Chrome browser. You can read and respond to texts using your keyboard and even know who’s calling before deciding if you should reach for your phone.

Motorola Connect is currently supported on Moto X, DROID ULTRA, DROID MAXX and DROID MINI.

Here is the description for Migrate:

One of the biggest pains of a new phone is losing some of your important stuff. Now you can move your photos, videos, SIM contacts and even your call and text history—from your old Android phone to your new Motorola phone in just a few steps, wirelessly.
Motorola Migrate can only transfer media from devices with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and above

So again, we are hours away from the Moto X becoming official. Should we look into these at all? Why would Motorola push both of these services live today if the phone isn’t coming out for a couple of weeks? Maybe Verizon’s August 23 launch date really is later than everyone else’s? The hypebeasting never stops.

We’ll know it all in a few hours! Stick close to the site this afternoon.

  • Motorola Connect (SMS and Calls) is an Application Google could add to Google Hangouts along with this SMS and Call Support (people want Hangouts to include SMS and Google Voice) along with the GCM notification support (i.e. Android Desktop Notifications) and the “Teamviewer-esque” remote typing feature.

Else apps that use GCM – Google Cloud Messaging like “Android Desktop Notifications” (Chrome Web Store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/giicnncicnopjohcpamieklkiacdoeni) could add these Motorola features into there desktop notifications app!

Time in screenshot is 11:35. 11 goes into 35 3 times. Half life 3 confirmed.

  • Theme Park Pro

The web page for the Moto X is now live in case you don’t want to wait.

    • Gnex

And it’s in droid-life pink. My life = complete.

  • Jaxon Wright
  • Matthew DiGiacomo

Whoever this Robert Scoble guys is, he’s downright giddy about this phone. Check out his Google+ page.

He’s essentially saying it’s the next big thing since the original iPhone came out…

    • Jackson

That made me almost pee myself

      • Matthew DiGiacomo

“That said, I was Apple’s #1 fan (quite literally, I was first in line in the Palo Alto Store, which is where Steve Jobs visited, for both the original iPhone and original iPad). I’m no longer an Apple fanboy and the MotoX is yet another reason why. More tonight.” -Scoble

What could he possibly mean? Maybe the pricing of this phone is so outrageous that it is taking direct shots at Apple’s over-pricing of the iPhone.

        • guest

he probably just liked its features and customization options ..I dont think this device will be priced anywhere close to $199 off contract as people are hoping fot ..

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

I dont know..it seems like more than features and customization. He’s saying this means a lot to Google itself.

          • guest

it probably is important for google, because other than nexus devices none of the devices for other OEM’s puts google services and android in the front , like moto x will use google now hands free ..samsungs just re-brands all google services to s-voice ..s-xxx..this will be first phone that will be available on all carriers with pure android experience ..nexus does that to some extent but not all carriers have it ..so this does mean quite a lot to google/android.

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

            I can agree with that.

    • Jackson

To say something as daring as that is pretty freaking incredible so I hope hes not an ass and is lying through his teeth

  • Jackson

I think kellex should leak what happened now to a person random to post it on a comment on DL keke

  • John charitos

anyway we can watch this live? you know apart from being there … like youtube? Or will it be private show only to attendees?

    • Matthew DiGiacomo

It’s a series of press briefings which are happening now. Then the embargo is lifted at 3 PM and all the android blogs will have articles up about what happened.

  • schwartzman93

One of my last minute predictions about the X is that we will be able to start buying it today online, with customizations and such…and the leaked launch date we keep seeing for Verizon is probably just for the standard white and black versions in stores.

  • Xious

So I wonder if Motorola Connect will be worth using over MightyText. MightyText has a Gmail plugin which is nice since I have Gmail open all the time. Makes texting a lot easier.

  • Matthew DiGiacomo

Kellex has been gone for a few hours now so I think it’s safe to assume they’re getting their hands on time and preparing articles as we speak.

I hope we see headlines like “The Moto X is Everything You’ve Dreamed Of, and More”..

  • Ericfranca

MightyText rip off, Motorola? For reals?

  • jer85008

Kind of on the fence about purchasing on or off contract for Verizon. Most likely, two years from now, I will still be on Verizon (exhales sadly). If I get it off contract for $300, I still pay the same rate for the service as if I got it for $100 on. Do I want freedom or cash?

    • Matthew DiGiacomo

  • BOB Dudek

I invented this APP ..long ago..in my mind.

  • bboyairwreck

why wouldnt they introduce sms to hangouts? more fragmentation if you ask me

  • Spider210

All the new Moto phones coming to verizon are going to have nano sims, now I’m seeing the reports saying the moto x going to have a nano sim, now the question is…. Is it going to be a NFC NANO SIM!

  • Matt R Carner

Call me crazy, but I’m going to buy as many of these things as they’ll let me as soon as they go on sale. I want to have them for my friends and family who will no doubt want one as soon as they see mine.

  • Taylor Abrahamson

Why does everything think it’s going to cost so much full price? Look at the new nexus 7. The specs are better in every possible measurable way (other than it’s a larger device) and it’s only $230. With the Moto X they aren’t even using quadcore tech, it’s only a dual core, that’s GOT to cost significantly less than the quad core beast in the new nexus 7. It only has 720p screen… Nexus 7 has full 1080… All for only $230. If their idea is to make a cheap affordable phone, that works “well”, then even $400 off contract isn’t going to cut it. It needs to compete with the budget tablet market. $199 retail. That’s my guess.

    • Jackson

That’s true but some people say “radios cost so much” I honestly don’t know how much they cost but maybe with the screen and processor so low they can pull that off and not to meantion smaller than the nexus 7 in everyway lol

      • Matthew DiGiacomo

The new Nexus 7 with LTE radios is $350, so it’s possible the Moto X is gonna cost around that.

        • Jackson

But it’s less physically over all

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

Yeah but remember Google is essentially selling the N7 at or near a loss. They don’t care about that. Motorola needs to make a profit.

          • BrianRoskamp

Hasn’t Motorola stated in the past that they’re looking to decrease their profit margin and increase sales? I believe it was a direct stab at Apple for how much they charge for the iPhone. Maybe this is their way of doing just that, just like Google is doing with the Nexus devices.

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

If that’s true then this could be a total win for consumers. We’ll know in two hours what the deal is!

          • Jackson

I think they could do it I mean after all they are googleorlas now and maybe they make a small profit on the phone and then a smal profit on apps purchased from the moto x lol or they just take a hit and hope the droid line keeps them afloat or google will fund it because its got so much money it doesn’t know what to do with.

      • Taylor Abrahamson

Good point. I didn’t realize the 32gb LTE model of the nexus 7 costs $349 and without LTE the 32gb is only $269. So $80 more just have the radio’s in it.

        • Jackson

True but those radios are for all lte so It is probably less if its a specific lte for each carrier

    • guest

Its not moto x has some old processor, it has the latest high end GPU and two krait cores, im sure mot didnt save much may be 2-3 $ per device, Also they added two new low power non arm cores, two handle specialized tasks ..so that compensates for it ..so just because its duual core it does not mean cost of making a Phone comes down drastically ..

    • anguy

Tablets cost less, because there’s generally less R&D involved. Phones are extremely cramped devices with a lot of electronic components, that must work flawlessly in close proximity to each other. You need a lot of research and testing to do it right. Tablets are simpler, because they are bigger. You just take a rectangle frame add components, battery and display and it’s done.

  • marclee

can nexus 4 use it anyway?

    • Jackson

Tried and It doesn’t look like it

  • motoridersd

Connect sounds awfully similar to MightyText

    • ToddAwesome

      Loves me some MightyText!

  • Jackson

On my N4 I tried to post and it said you are not allowed to post on this blog? Anyone else get that

  • Jeremy Sheehan

MightyTxt! I do this already with the txt msgs. My only beef is that group messaging doesn’t work and you can only see the first pic in a slideshow.

  • Weber

  • Bryan

The biggest news to me is that they are implementing this as a chrome extension. That’s a good sign that Google is heavily influencing their decisions. The old Motorola would have made this feature a standalone service that you had to install on your computer like the old Motocast crap.

    • anguy

When they make a Mozilla extension, that would be good.

  • kkloster

I feel like normally by this time of year we would be seeing some nexus hype. I wonder if we’re not gonna see a nexus device this year? Maybe Moto X in lieu?

    • Steve B

Nexus is just over shadowed by the MotoX hyperbeast right now.

We’re still getting a Nexus 5 this year. Last we heard it was made by LG again, due in October as usual and will come with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

  • Justtyn Hutcheson

    What’s this? A useful, cross-platform feature?

  • Tim Swann

I’m actually working in the city today but I don’t have a press pass for the event 🙁

    • Jackson

Maybe theyll be really nice and you just say open sesame and please

    • Jackson

Or buy a black shirt cut and X in it down the middle and walk up an be like im the announcer move maggots

  • Jeremy Martin

And just like that *POOF!* my Droid Razr HD MAXX is obsolete. Would have been nice to use Motorola Connect on a phone not fully a year old yet.

    • ddh819

but verizon already has its own web interface for text messaging

      • Jeremy Martin

Web sure…I like the idea of what Moto connect seems to offer from the above article. I use chrome all the time so having it integrated keeps me from having to leave open some tab to Verizons web interface. The Chrome based caller ID feature is awesome really.

    • hkklife

I fully expect Moto/Google to do everything in their power to pretend like everything existing prior to the Moto X and the new Droid Mini/Ultra/Maxx no longer exist and never existed. Those phones have microSD slots and microHDMI ports, so that means they are need to be EOL’d ASAP!

      • chris420o

phones unlocked im sure some dev will dabble into possibly porting this

      • BrianRoskamp

No need for microSD when you have Google Drive. No need for microHDMI when you have ChromeCast 😛

  • JG

If the gag order is released at 3PM EST, is there an event of some sort so the bloggers can get their info? Or is it going to be like a giant press release and every site is going to be rushing to get an article out on it. How will I know when its on sale on the play store and/or Moto’s site? I fail to understand this, are they using 400mil out of the 500 mil budget for the party tonight and not an event?

    • JoshGroff

I’m going to spam refresh my flipboard.

    • Alex Goings

They had a thing where they invited people from different news outlets and blogs to some location and they got all the info on it and got to play with it for a few hours. They just cant say anything until 3 today.

Leo Laporte talks about it in this podcast from yesterday http://twit.tv/show/this-week-in-google/209

      • Jackson

I think kellex should just release it early keke that is if he got to mess with it.

        • Alex Goings

That would be a great idea and only end well in the long run!

          • Jackson

Yea I mean it’d be a win win for everyone and maybe to have vzw would allow it if they got to call it the Droid Moto X something something

      • Jackson

Well now I think it is highly likely it will be released today except for verizon.

Because if a bunch of bloggers already got there hands on it then they have pre written stuff to push the moment they can and maybe even videos and proof of great battery life etc.

Now I also think it is highly possible that they’ll sell all of them off contract including verizon, specifically because the percentage of people that follow these blogs etc are a small portion of the population so maybe vzw would be okay with that. Because when they release on contract for say $150(between Mini and Ultra) they will still get a ton of business from it with out a doubt. Thoughts? Anyone?

        • NexusMan

And the event that happened over a week ago was not attended by “a bunch of bloggers,” it was a very small gathering, invite only.

          • Jackson

True that well I wonder is Kellex got to go, DL is one of the biggest Android sites if not the biggest for reviewing etc.

        • Alex Goings

I think that verizon will have a later release, but not so bad as they usualy are. But for the other companies, I think that preorders will go live today where you can do your customization (whatever that may be). Then those will ship in a week or two. Then I think standard black and white will be available in stores within the week.

          • Jackson

That’ possible I could see that because we haven’t seen any leaked photos of phones arriving to stores, have we? I don’t think so.
So I could see that or it won’t be a store bought phone maybe purely online?

          • Alex Goings

I havent seen any. Hmm. Thats an interesting thought. Only online. I know this is rediculos and might not make any sense, but would it be possible that like the nexus 7 it is one version across all carriers? I dont know how that would work. Perhaps magic?

          • Jackson

It is possible I think all it would take is in those 2 lte antennas make it compatible with all lte and then throw in a cdma as well

          • Alex Goings

But would that be possible in a cost effective package?

          • Jackson

I would think so specifically because it is less physically smaller in every way compared to the nexus 7. I don’t doubt it could cost say $175 to make they sell it for $199 and $25 shipping for 14 days lol and then they make money on all the accessories and everything else

          • Alex Goings

The real issue with it is then engineering that goes into 1. fitting it in the small package and 2. the actual extra hardware cost
Though I dont know what would be more costly for moto, creating a whole new version or figuring out how to make it all owrk on one device.

          • Jackson

true good point and you forgot ABSOLUTELY no bezel lol look closely side-meets-SCREEN

          • Jackson

            Look at it lol

      • NexusMan

He’s actually been talking about that for weeks now. He also said, after attending it over a week ago that there are features that have not been leaked yet.

        • Alex Goings

Yep. I just started listening to TWiG last week so I don’t have all the info on what he has said. But yes when he said that we are going to be supprised and that “it will be the best phone on the market” that made me super excited.

      • JG

Ahh i see so basically all of the articles are written and at 3pm the floodgates open…interesting.

      • JoshGroff

Insert obligatory Half Life 3 confirmed.

    • NexusMan

It’s not a traditional launch event. There are several “sessions” happening throughout the day, as well as an event/celebration open to the public this evening at 8pm.

  • That Google “cards” interface is lovely! Thank you Google-Moto

  • Ian Smith

    motorola connect looks great

  • AndrewScottRox

Now all you need is a new Oak Chrome theme to go with your new phone.

  • ChuckG73

So is Verizon going to let me down today?????? Why can’t TMo have better coverage???!!!

    • It’s not so much their coverage for me, but that most of their coverage is just GPRS/EDGE…

  • Narflar

Did Motorola rip off MightyText? The motorola connect looks exactly like the MightyText interface.

    • Ben Klene

I used to use MightyText but after an update it stopped working on my Droid 3. I loved that app.

  • Jackson

Does the droid life team all live in the same area? Anyone know? Just wondered

    • Alex Goings
      • I think Tim-O lives in Oregon as well now. He moved there a year or two ago (unless he moved back).

        • Alex Goings

You would probably know better than I. I just checked the about page so I could feel like I knew something and was helpful.

    • bkosh84

I don’t think so.. Kellex lives on the West Coast (Oregon or Washington?) and the others live on the East Coast? I could (and probably am) totally wrong on that assumption though, lol.

  • Michael Romano

This Motorola Connect feature will most likely become a core component of Android and sync up with Chrome.

  • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

That’s fantastic already! Boner at the ready!

  • Bill Newman

No event? I guess they are spending that $500 million in other places…

    • Guest

The event is tonight at 8PM. It’s a party in NY that lasts until 1AM.

      • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

What do you mean no event?

        • There is no press event as you are probably used to. Press are getting a chance to see whatever it is that Moto has to show today, and then there will be a big reveal this afternoon. If that makes sense.

        • Bill Newman

Kellex B DL Staff Matthew DiGiacomo

  • Bradley Albert Nemitz

Mac windows on a Chromebook desktop? Good job, graphics department.

    • haha good eye.

    • Tyrian

      could be a chrome theme

    • Valilla

    • Joey Funk

i was wondering that as well…

  • Corey Foltman

Verizon is always late with releases.

    • Ryan

This is why I, as well as many others in my same position (VZW Gnex w/ 2yr contract ending in December), will be switching to a different carrier.

That and the delay on software updates. Seriously, they release 4.3 for everything else but us…

    • Verizon CEO

      That’s what she said…

  • Jackson

God I’ve been looking for a workable platform like this for ever

  • Mych_

I’m excited! I will be selling my Note 2 for this device! Or do a swap for it, if anyone would be willing!

  • bonix

Please don’t drop the ball Verizon, I don’t want your droids I want this. Ughhh I can feel the disappointment coming already.

    • Sort of feels like Moto X will go everywhere well before the 23rd, but Verizon worked a deal with Moto to release the new DROIDs on the 20th before the Moto X.

Because Verizon loves Thursday releases, and the new DROIDs are randomly coming out on the 20th, a Tuesday.

      • Maybe the Moto X will be available through the Play Store this afternoon but land in carrier stores on the 23rd…? No, forget it. That’s too much of a fantasy. Verizon will find a way to screw this up somehow.

        • Corey Foltman

im guessing google play today, att/tmo next weekish, and vzw late to the party as always. they say 23rd now, but will push it back to late september.

          • bkosh84

            You forgot Sprint/US Cellular…

AT&T/T-Mo next weekish, Google Play today/tomorrow, Sprint/US Cellular end of month and Verizon September of 2030. lol

          • michael arazan

Can’t wait till October to get this Phone on Verizon!!!!!

      • EC8CH

I can wait for awesome…. pleeeeeeease make it be awesome 🙂

      • Ryan N

Kell, please tell me that it is possible for a verizon compatible version of the x to release on the play store today and the “in-store” version is on the 23rd. I’m four months out of contract and need to figure out which Launch Day Carrier I will be switching to if that is my only option at this point.

      • The Now Network

        Hi Kellex,

Come and experience the Moto X first here on Sprint. This device, coupled with our unlimited data and every improving network, will surely amaze you. Watch out for the trolls though. They’re spreading lies about my network. Especially that Verizon fellow. You should know as well as anybody that Verizon is always up to no good.

        • Sprint sucks, I switched to Sprint back in Feb and have had horrid download speeds, dropped calls and horrible customer service. They blame the towers, then towers are fixed then they say its my NEW phone then its not the phone its the towers again then they fixed the towers, officially lauched LTE then the towers are broken again. So tired of this BS.

          • The Now Network
          • michael arazan

Sprint is better than t-mo and attt in MO and IL, ATT here in St.L has more holes than swiss cheese, and T-Mo won’t get a signal if you get more that a mile away from the highway.

          • I live in Franklin TN and work in Brentwood TN, they have LTE in Spring Hill (5 miles south of Franklin) and in Nashville officially (14 miles North of Franklin). I go in and out of LTE all day long. At work i am less than 1/4 mile off the interstate and it still sucks.

          • Guff Khufu

Sprints a joke in central il

        • Ian

“every improving” c’mon Dan, you’re better then that.

          • Weber

          • Ian

            Right you are. Thanks!

        • turdbogls

I can’t tell if this is just some sprint Fanboi, some troll, or an actual sprint rep. so confused.

          • Butters619

I think he is a knock off Verizon.

(and I mean that as in Verizon the commenter. Although it works both ways)

        • Sprint trololol

        • Coupled with your non-existent 4G LTE, yeah I’d be so enthralled to join the now network -_- …not

      • D_Omen25

So are we to assume then that IF this phone is sold through the play store, it’s only going to be a “GSM variant” or “international” version then?!? Basically if you’re on VZW or Sprint you’re ONLY option to purchase it will be through the carrier period???

        • Butters619

That is traditionally how it works, but anybody saying for sure one way or the other is just speculating. There have been rumors both ways and we will know for sure later.

        • FLHC

If this happens, it will solidify my departure from verizon.

Chances are, they’ll also add a 100-200 dollar premium on the phone too.

      • Jarrett Guma

Is it at all possible that they could release a Verizon compatible version on the Google Play store before Verizon actually starts selling it on contract? Either way I can feel the disappointment brewing when we hear that its available for Verizon for $600+ off contract…

        • tomn1ce

I wouldn’t be surprised if they did that. When the G-Nexus was release the vzw version cost more then the GSM version.

      • tyguy829

I think they pushed the services today because press members are getting a phone. That would make the most sense. Hope I didn’t get you too excited in case I’m wrong. 😛

    • Verizon CEO

      Disappointment is my middle name

  • Matthew DiGiacomo

Kellex, are you doing a liveblog type thing during the event? Are you guys even gonna be there?

    • Again, there is no event. We’re in NYC, we’ll have plenty of Moto X coverage this afternoon.

      • Matthew DiGiacomo

Ah, okay. I was confused about that. Thanks!

        • To clarify, there is a party happening tonight to celebrate the phone, but the Moto X goodness that we all care about will come out well before then.

You’ll see it all right here.

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

Sweeeeet. Kind of weird they aren’t have a typical press event isn’t it?

          • King Lo

They’ve been leaking info for 2 months. They know we know.

          • JonathonFlores

          • AxemRed

            What time is the announcement?

That word, blogosphere, must be burned in the pits of hell!

          • EC8CH

yeah I felt dirty typing it but what else do you call it when probably every tech blog is going to release a Moto X post at the exact same time?

          • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

I dunno, could just say tech blogs. At least it’s not as bad as twittersphere!

          • ^^^^^

          • Christopher Young

There’s going to be a party to celebrate the phone? I’m not sure if this is pathetic, but I almost want to go to it.

          • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

That’s strange – no event? How are they releasing the info then? A giant press release?

  • ßen Murphy

I have a feeling there won’t be a ‘Wow’ factor. I’m only saying this just in case there is =)

    • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

I’d rather underestimate and be excited than have my dreams crushed. Trying to keep myself from being to exhilarated

      • EC8CH

        it’s too late… you have been X-hilarated

        • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

          Snap! Haha

  • Ryan

These apps are perfect for me as I live in an area where my phone only gets service in a specific spot, away from my computer. These look much more polished than any of the other apps out there for texting from your desktop. I really hope the Moto X is awesome, it might just persuade me against waiting for the next nexus… though doubtful.

    • Jackson

Or it’ll be cheap enough to get both lol

      • Ryan

Hell, why not just get the Moto X as my phone and then pick up the new Nexus 7 or wait for the new Nexus 10 as my android experience device?

        • Jackson

Or that. Motorola’s build quality alone may make me sell my n4

  • LoganLopez

Looks a LOT like Mighty Text which works for all phones. The popup isn’t as detailed, but looks just as good and gives you a lot for free.

  • I use google voice so I already have these things.

    • Matthew DiGiacomo

False. GVoice cannot allow you to access your phone’s texts and calls and respond to them through Chrome.

      • Steven Berger

http://voice.google.com….you can make phone calls from your gmail account and send texts and view texts you have sent.

        • Matthew DiGiacomo

Well yeah true but it’s separate from your carrier phone number right?

          • Bowen9284

I ported my long time number to G voice just for that functionality.

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

Ahhhhhhhhhhh true I completely forget you could do that. You have to pay though right?

          • Years ago I just bit the bullet and created a Google Voice number and then told everyone my new number. It took a while for everyone to get it, but it’s been well worth it.

Or you could wait until your contract is done and then try to port your number over to Google Voice. Otherwise, yes, it’ll mess with your contract.

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

Okay..so how does getting service with your phone work if you have no carrier and you are with Google Voice?

          • Bowen9284

Gv requires a cell signal to make a call using the service from your phone. I believe there are work-arounds for that. Gv now has your number so you could text with a wifi only device and have it synced with your other laptops, tabs, etc. What’s is weird is I actually know a Matt Digiacomo… There can’t be that many right?

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

            Haha where are you/he from?

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

            Haha where are you/he from?

          • Bowen9284

I’m from MA. I know him through the Army.

          • Matthew DiGiacomo

Eh I guess not. I’m in the Air Force :p

          • Flat_Stanley

How do you deal with MMS? I would switch over fully to GV except for not knowing how to deal with lack of MMS, and the fact that I think Voice will get canned soon.

          • Well I’m getting calls through Hangouts now. So they are slowly integrating it.

And yeah MMS doesn’t work. But chat apps have passed SMS in 2012 and by 2014 they say that chat messages sent by phone will be about 4 times bigger than the amount of SMS sent. So… that problem is going away.

          • Joey Funk

when i started with sprint, google voice announced integration with sprint so your sprint number was also your google voice number. It’s been a great 3 years. 😀 now with hangouts I easily can answer calls on my computer and hopefully GV is rolled into hangouts to make it even better.

      • ChuckG73

Go to your carrier and change your cell number. I think they hold your current number for 48 hours. Port your current number to Google Voice. Use Google Voice.

      • fish1552

There are plenty of apps out that there send your phones texts through your GTalk #. I use DeskSMS (just one example), which allows me to get messages on my laptop, desktop, tablet and never have to pick up my phone while working.
Personally, why install another (probably) bloatware product from Moto when I can use something more stream-lined that I know works.

  • Denard Mondesir

Setting this as my home page

  • coh303

Now I can spam all my phone contacts with cat emojis from the ease of my keyboard!

In reality both of these tools look pretty useful.

  • Mark

Im starting to think it will be made available today but only online through either Google Play or Motorola’s site… and will arrive at the actual carrier stores towards the end of the month. If that is the case, im hoping you can still order a Verizon compatible model off of Moto’s website so I can get my hands on the device now!

    • RoboCop

Agreed…Amazon already has cases/accessories available saying “ships in 3 weeks”

    • Dream scenario would be available today online, unlocked version that works on T-Mo and AT&T, for $300, with customizable options.

      • Steven Berger

Dream scenario would include Verizon unlocked version, not just T-Mo and AT&T, or is that such a dream scenario that it does not even make your dream scenario?

        • Such a dream that it doesn’t exist. 😛

          • JonathonFlores

I’m a Verizon customer that’s actually thinking about buying this on tmo. Seems like it’s just the smart thing to do at this point.

          • Bowen9284

I left Verizon for t-mobile in December. About 350.00 in bill savings and a couple of unlocked phones later… A very happy customer!

          • LiterofCola

Then you’d have to weigh which is more important, a stronger, more reliable signal or a device.

          • JonathonFlores

I live in DFW and hardly ever go out to the boonies. Traveling is usually to bigger metropolitan areas as well, so I don’t believe I’ll be doing too much damage. Plus, I’ll still have my Verizon number..and unlimited data.

          • LiterofCola

Cool, if it works then have at it! I travel a lot so it wouldn’t be too feasible for me.

          • JoshGroff

I was with T-Mobile for 7 years before switching to Verizon, not as noticeable of a difference as fanboys would lead you to believe, and even less so with WiFi calling.

          • T4rd

That completely depends on where you’re at and how much you travel. Where I’m at T-Mobile is stuck on Edge in most areas while Verizon has LTE in neighboring farm towns. I would love to drop Verizon for T-Mobile, but when I have unlimited data on LTE literally everywhere I go, it’s hard to justify switching.

          • JoshGroff

Yeah, that’s the thing with most carriers, some just have better coverage in some areas. Verizon is very consistent though. (But, alas I don’t travel much, and when I do, I don’t use my phone.)

        • Verizon CEO

Don’t kid yourself, unlocked phones hurt our network

      • UpdatesFromHTCAreAJoke

        And VZW! >_< BOO

      • Ben

        I’ll take two!

      • JoshGroff

I’d return my S4 and buy one outright if that is the case.

  • WCM3

When is the actual event today? I feel like I haven’t seen a time anywhere. Is it 3?

    • Not an event. Press briefings, then a reveal this afternoon. Not sure I’m supposed to fully confirm the time, but yes, you’ll want to be around the site at the time you just said. 😛

      • Mark

So will the press be getting official info on the Moto X well before the 3pm reveal but just cant release anything until 3?

        • Maybe. 😛

          • Mark

            Oh you big tease!!!! =)

          • JonathonFlores

            That’s that sh*t I don’t like (song reference)

      • RoboCop

I work at 3…can you tell them to hurry it up a little…..actually, scratch that…whatever the most badass, manly, rugged looking customized build of this thing there is, just order it for me…please…as long as it’s $300…sigh, fine I’ll do $350.

        • Pedro

          Pink DL version for you!

      • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Must be a massive embargo. I’m betting on reviews at 3

      • Derek L.

So you have the device already?!

      • JonathonFlores

3 pm on the east coast?

      • D1scu5t3d

So what your saying is; this is a non-event?! Is this what marketing has become? Suspenseful, but mostly confusing…

  • Welcome to East Coast time. Have my daily fix of DL before 9! It’s going to be a good day.

    • 😀

      • palomosan

Boy oh boy, Kellex is up at 8am, Hypebeasting!

        • My brain and puffy eyes are telling me its 5AM Pacific. 😛

          • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Wait… Are we getting a live blog? And what time? I’m so confused

          • NexusPhan69

No. He’s going to the event in NYC. There will be no live-blog anywhere on the internet. The gag order is lifted around 3pm. Look for a flood of posts then.

          • David Narada Brown

3 O’CLOCK!!!! I cant continue to wait like this. its like the closer we get the more impatient i am.

          • CARPDM

gag order is lifted at 3pm Eastern time today? I thought the “event” was tonight from 8pm-1am eastern?

          • NexusPhan69

From my understanding, that’s the second, more public, more intoxicated party event. The presentation is going on now until 3.

          • I hear hemorrhoid cream helps with puffy eyes.

      • TheRobotCow

        Can’t…….stop…….refreshing…….droid life……….

        • MK17

Me either, even though we should see anything until 3 ET 🙁

      • Jackson

it’s true that was nice got to read with my coffee

    • juanwilson325
