Say the Same Thing for Android, a Unique Word Game That Brings Friends Together

If you find yourself cold and alone in the universe, maybe it’s time to check out Say the Same Thing. Interestingly enough, this game is from the members of the band OK Go, but that’s not really what is important. In this word-based game, two players say a random word. From these two random words, you begin a journey to relate those two words to the same word. It’s weird to explain, so if you get a chance to watch the promo vid, go for it.

For now, users must log in using a Facebook account and then you can go ahead and challenge friends or random users. I have played a couple games and it is extremely satisfying when you and a friend finally come upon the same word. The feeling of extreme friendship.

Check it out and let us know what you think. Also, try to find me!

Nobody seems to understand or see the “it counts” button. I’ve played 2 games now where we said the same basic thng (fly vs flying and fridge vs refrigerator) and the other person wont hit the button.

    • Stefan

Same here. And I pretty much refure to enter a new word since I just think the game should end.

If this kind of word game existed before, I’ve never heard of it. So I’m glad to give it a try. It appears to be harder than the video shows, to get to the same word.
Two things though: servers seem to be under high pressure, and it’s not clear where the bananas (in game currency) are going, and if you can win some back by completing a successful game. Asked the devs about this a few minutes ago.

    • Stefan

Okay, so it costs 2 banana’s for each game you start, 3 if you start with a random word. When you finish a game, you don’t get a banana.

I tested this by starting games with random opponents and random words, My banana count is now zero, I can play and finish the games I started, and then I’m done.

The more popular this game gets, the more of my friends become a potential opponent, and banana’s are spent more quickly. So if you play this a lot, with a lot of people, it will cost you more. Example: I play one game (= 2 bananas) a day with 10 friends. That costs 20 bananas a day, so I’ll have to make that purchase every day. (Or go for the larger, discounted pack, of course).

Most of my friends and family only play the free / ad supported games since they don’t have want to set up a credit card and gift cards aren’t availably in my country. So after a day or 2, 3, everyone runs out of bananas and uninstall the game. Two bananas a day by watching a 30 second video twice (which seems to be the maximum) doesn’t earn you enough to keep playing.

This seems like a flawed monetization technique which can only fail.

I saw this comment after I already downloaded it. Uninstalling immediately. Thanks.

Ain’t nobody got time for that!

  • This is quite possibly the third dumbest thing I’ve seen today.

  • Trying it now. I only got one friend to start a game so far. However, for this game, why would they need to hide my status bar? GIVE IT BACK. Also it doesn’t appear to have push notification.. come on…

    • Stefan

      I do get push notifications.

I can’t fathom why apps make it required to use a Facebook account to use them. I makes me want to shoot myself in the face.

    • ßen Murphy

      Well, who’s stopping you?…

    • So they don’t have to build a social graph. Saves a lot of time

    • Dylan Patel

Much easier to find people to play with.

      • TheWhiteLotus

As opposed to simply having the user create a new username? Words with Friends does it, and you don’t need a FB account.

        • Dylan Patel

WWF does us FB they just have the second option too.

      • michael arazan

This sounds like a game that would require the use of weed to play

  • Thomas

After this app & the banging w/ friends one from yesterday I think its damn time I open a Facebook account.

Why did you censor “it” in Damn it?
