China’s Meizu MX2 Smartphone Announced – “Super-Retina” Display, Quad-Core, 2GB of RAM and Jelly Bean

Could this be the ultimate Android superphone? In terms of specs and at least on paper, it very well could be. Unfortunately for us Americans, it won’t be coming anytime soon. The Meizu MX2 features a 4.4″ 16:10 “Super Retina” display, as well as a beefy quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. If that isn’t enough, how about the fully back-illuminated 8MP shooter, equipped with 5 high-end optical lenses. If software is more your thing, the MX2 comes running Jelly Bean, complete with a custom skin called Flyme 2.0, which will remind many of the custom MIUI ROM’s that we used to feature.

As the cherry on top, it also features wireless display support, as well as a suite of cloud-based applications and services to go along with the custom Android build. As for the price, you’re looking at just 2,499 yuan, which when converted directly equals to just about $500. Not bad, right?

I could get down on this instantly if it came here to the U.S.

Now Meizu MX2 is available at http://www.meizushops.com

  • drinksprite

is that a physical home button? i’ll pass.

  • Noah

This is not an iPhone copy, try to get one yourself, put it together with THE iPhone, compare them, then judge.

  • vettedude95

Looks like the iPhone in the front. Good thing its not made by Samsung or else there would be more court stories

  • This phone is so beautiful! I wants it now!

  • Cracker Jack

So when is Apple going to star suing Meizu because they created a device that looks like an iPhone???

  • Tim Buchanan

“Super Retina display”? I’m sure nobody needs to alert Apple’s crack legal team on this one.

  • Trevor

Ok, they’re getting sued for sure.

  • This what it’s come to, because Samsung and HTC keep making phablets, I have to get a chinese phone, so much facepalm. #firstworldproblems.

    • asianrage

Last I check, HTC haven’t released any phablets.

  • cooksta32676

Hopefully you can’t see the screen backlights like the DNA.

  • This would be nice if it didn’t look like an iPhone…

  • CodeToJoy

Nice looking phone. I’d be interested, not sure if I can go back to a skin after having a Nexus device though…

  • China

2,499 YUAN is about $401.89 US DOLLAR.

  • eastbaycali

    Super Duper Retina lol

  • Radgatt

    Cough ….iPhone….cough

  • chris125

Good specs and not huge screen, they should bring more of these state side

  • El_Big_CHRIS

Why can’t Moto build something like this? Or any other OEM besides Sammy. It seems they build one great device and release it on one network. Pull a Sammy/Apple and it’ll succeed.

  • Brian Sargent

Looks like what the Iphoney5 should have been.

  • Price is 402$ USD

    • JoshGroff

401.62 😉 That’s not accounting for tax and shipping though. Still a good price.

  • Diablo81588

Super retina.. Could they be any more obvious? Typical Chinese copy cats..

    • JoshGroff

      It’s not copying if it’s better. 😉

      • Diablo81588

This is from China. It will be extremely cheaply made and certainly not better.

        • asianrage

So the iPhone is extremely cheaply made and certainly better? Your logic doesn’t work when it’s so generalized.

          • Diablo81588

The iPhone is only manufactured in China, not designed.

          • asianrage

Here’s a link you should read.

You’re lumping (well) design vs quality manufacturing. A product can be poorly design where it can look ugly, yet have a quality manufacturing process producing it :cough:KINDLEFIRE:cough:

How about a more obvious example, the iPhone4 suffer from poor “design” choices that was made to use glass, despite having a quality manufacturing process to produce the individual components that make up the phone.

The Meizu may be an “obvious” take on the iPhone, but the assumption that it would be poorly made/manufactured without ever touching it is idiotic. No offense. The Asus Transformer tablets line is made/manufactured with quality metal form factor and glass LCDs. Where’s the cheaply made stuff?

Just wait until you can touch it before passing judgement on whether it’s cheaply made, maybe?

        • JoshGroff

It was a joke, also, where do you think iPhones are made?

          • Diablo81588

Manufactured and designed are completely different. Apple oversees the manufacturing process and has quality standards for their manufacturers to follow. Products designed in China don’t have to abide by the same rules, and are known for cheap materials and cutting corners. I am in no way an apple fan, but I’m not too ignorant to believe they don’t have quality products from a hardware standpoint.

    • cheri

time to put aside your bias. Samsung used to be copy cat too. Besides, how can you say this is copy if it actually look better than the iphone5 **it?

  • Justin Kos

Is that the iPhone 6? I can’t tell

  • looks too much like an iphone. wouldn’t buy..

    • kretz7

That’s not a good reason to not buy a phone. Please don’t be ignorant.

      • Adam

Thank Goodness someone else can use their brain. GJ Kretz.

      • Stevedub40

What’s ignorant about that? The iphone design is boring and been the same for the past 3 years. Why does someone have to like the iphone design? Pot or kettle?

        • kretz7

First off I have a gnex so I’m not being biased towards an iphone. I for one think the gnex front side slightly resembles the iphone 3’s design – yes, it’s larger, yadda yadda yadda, but it sort of does look like it. If it’s the phone you want why does it matter if it resembles another phone? Maybe I’m wrong but every time I see a comment like Byron’s I immediately think people say stuff like that because it’s an Apple product and they’re closed minded. Also, the MX2 design looks pretty close to the Nexus 4 (minus the one home buttom) so you probably should hold off on the Nexus 4 because it looks like an iphone.

          • Next Us?

Now a days anything with a touchscreen looks like an iphone. Is what the people say.

    • gimlet72

I was about to ask how they haven’t been sued by apple yet.

  • Stewie

In case you haven’t yet figured it out – Chinese companies rarely send ANY of their really good $hit to the USA, nor will your friendly neighborhood carriers purchase it.

Wanns blow your mind? visit China/Japan and look at their low end electronics, which are things still 5x better than the $hit they export to the US.

    • Dr_Buttballs

      You’re $o right.

    • JoshGroff

That’s my incentive to learn Japanese and move to Tokyo.

    • michael arazan

I’m still amazed that the international community never bothers China for all the Stealing of Intellectual Property, piracy, and hacking. They are allowed to steal from the rest of the world without penalties from the international laws and community. Just one of the many reasons I hate China

  • chuck

No thanks. I get enough people asking me if my nexus is an iPhone now.. Can’t imagine what would happen if I carried this around

    • JoshGroff

Are you referring to the 4? Even so, it looks so different that even the uninformed would know it’s not an iPhone.

  • klogram

This is reminiscent of an iPhone. Looks better though.

  • NorCalGuy

And it looks exactly like an iPhone….At least the icons don’t match this time.

  • YankInDaSouth

I smell an iLawSuite … AGAIN!

  • NexusPhan69

Too busy refreshing Google Play for the Nexus to become available to read any more articles!

    • Tony Allen

you had a 2 minute *if that* window.. hope you got one

    • Next Us?

But not busy enough to write this

      • NexusPhan69

        That’s the joke…
