I just got mine at 1123 am in ocean spring ms

  • Max

Anyone seeing your download saying “download suspended. will resume shortly”?? Mine has been saying that since 8pm last night.

  • frustrated owner

Just like everything with my bionic I am having to wait forever for the download…with full wifi and full bars it keeps suspending itself every 3% for a couple hours …fml

    • our torture never ends with this phone

  • danturkette

20 minutes to download, about the same to install. However, now I can’t place any calls.

    • danturkette

Never mind. For some reason it took a few minutes to connect to Verizon.

  • steveliv

I checked my wife’s phone while I was home for lunch. The update downloaded, and started installing right as i was leaving. She is excited, especially after using my galaxy nexus.

  • Just came here to tell you Bionic owners sorry for all the snide remarks over the past year. Congrats on your update.

  • “An update is currently being downloaded”… for 90 minutes so far, on my home wireless (N). Hmmm…

  • Jaxon

My update process got confused when I switched between 4G and wifi. I tried to switch to wifi and there was no download progress anywhere. After switching to 4G, the download suspended notice showed, but sat there until I switched back to wifi again.

  • Max

mine has said “download suspended. will resume shortly” since 8pm last night. rebooted and nothing. I figure this will just drab and drag.

    • same here πŸ™

  • corymcnutt

Now, let the whinning begin! We finally got it and now people will complain about every single thing! Just enjoy!

  • mshahan

Still no update on my phone.

  • Gage

I’m having trouble getting the music on my SD card to play.

  • Silver Veloz

Woo Hoo! Only problem – I have to wait til I get home. Weak signal where I work and no WiFi (yet). That’s OK, I wouldn’t be able to play with it now anyway – too busy! I know what I will be doing tonight. YAY!!!!!!!

  • MGardnerDA1235

Don’t be a fool like me…turn on 4G before you start the download…otherwise it’ll take half an hour to download and the whole process will take an hour.

  • Anthony S

Solid build. I really like how they toned down blur.

  • after using 2 motorola phones and now a nexus…I would concur what most ppl say about only using nexus devices. Get a nexus, unlock it and install all the new versions yourself. I was too close to getting a bionic a year ago and would have never bought another motorola product ever ever ever.

    • Jeralmac

I hate to say it but I completely agree with this and I too almost bought the bionic and ended up holding out for the GNex – so glad I did. It’s sad too because I do believe that Moto produces the best hardware and radios. If Google can release pure google on Moto phones in the future, I’ll be back.

  • julian collins

My wife tried downloading he update 4hrs ago, and it still hasn’t downloaded. Don’t know what’s wrong but a update should not take that long. It stopped at 32%, and she had to power off because her phone wouldn’t do anything.

  • duke69111

Has anyone posted the official OTA file yet? A co-worker can’t get his to download the OTA and I might manually update it for him.

    • masiv

Grab the .236 file from House of Bionic. It is the same as the OTA

      • duke69111

He came in today and said all three finally downloaded and installed. Now I don’t get to tinker with it. oh well. Thanks anyway!

  • everytime I try to pull the OTA it tells me the download is suspended and it will resume shortly. anyone else?

  • Mine isn’t working, WAH!

    • It downloaded but when I tried to update it reboots and says “Update Failed”

      • John

I have had the same issue. I did a couple battery pulls before and after a factory reset… still no joy. Broke down and contacted VZW… not help as of yet.

  • zeroandone10

It still has yet to be even be sent out . Although they state its out many bionic owners have yet to receive the update.

    • Diablo81588

Its rolling out in phases since last night. Not everyone gets it at once.

  • Bionic

Ive had it since the Friday soak test. Awesome phone now.

  • Taco

How long did it take you all to “download” the update. My coworkers Bionic seems to be frozen in downloading it. It’s been about 30min since we started the update and now everytime I select “system update” it says it’s currently being downloaded but without anything in the notification bar. Any ideas?

    • Anon

It takes quite a while. And don’t worry about it not being there, it shows up once the download is done. My download took almost an hour.

      • julian collins

My wife’s bionic been downloading since 7am, and still nothing.

        • willmunny

I’m in the same boat. I have the download arrow working constantly, but nothing else going on. If I try to grab it manually, it says that the download is in progress. My phone is not rooted or anything crazy on it, just as purchased. Anyone have suggestions?

          • LionStone

Be patient? Is your internet solid? You may have interrupted it?

          • julian collins

I did a factory reset, and it finally took. She loves that thing now.

    • Mine ran for 2 hours last night, then I finally went to bed. When I woke up this morning, it was done. I know it’s not a great answer, but I didn’t see any progress at all while it was downloading.

I actually went on my wedding day to VZW day to get the Bionic. I was so excited.

  • fixxmyhead

damn it no more bionic jokes

    • No, now they begin the “when the Bionic get JB”. I’m going to laugh like hell if the Bionic gets JB shortly before or the same time (2-3 weeks diff) as the Razr/Maxx. Really hoping it appears sometime around Q1 for both, but not holding my breath. That gives them a 3-5 month update cycle, which I’m really ok with honestly. Better than once/yr!

  • Gavo265

Downloads, but crashes when installing :/

Any ideas on what to do? I rooted it a while back but the root broke with .905. Is that the cause?

    • marokey

      Stock recovery is needed.

  • Droidius Maximus

Excellent, it crashed while downloading the update, then while installing the update, then several times after installing the update, and now is super sluggish and essentially unusable. But that’s ok because I have to take a client call on this thing in about an hour. Moto FTW!

  • webtop / lapdock got an update too…. looks amazing!

  • brad

Yea, my wife thought I ROM’d her bionic this am. Lol. Thanks for this article. Now I have proof I didn’t. However, I would have if she’d put her phone down long enough. Lol

  • I’ve been running one of the leaked ICS builds for months. I’ll admit it was very strange having to purposely put GB back on my phone to get me back on the official upgrade path. This build is very stable so far, but it doesn’t seem a far cry from the leaked ICS I was running. Now…. Just need to get JB running on it now……

    • 9024Steven

Same here, was on .232 so I could downgrade to GB and get back on the OTA path. I had to relive the nightmare of data drops that plagued me on GB for the past week waiting for the upgrade, which I got early this AM. I too see no difference between the leaked version and version .246 we just got so will be looking closely to see.

I was also very happy with the leaked version, wish I knew a fly on the wall during Verizon’s meetings where they chose not to release the several versions of ICS sent to them by Moto.

      • Agreed about being the fly on the wall. I stayed on 232 until I knew that I could dl 246 and apply it manually. I didn’t want to have to relive the GB experience after being on ICS for so long.

  • JohnPA2006

    Thats cool, enjoy Bionic peeps.
The Bionic is still a darn good smartphone. and still is a hefty chunk of change if you try to get one used on ebay. Says a lot about the phone.

  • rockrebel9

When is the Thunderbolt update coming?!?

I held out for as long as I could, but had too many issues. On the Rezound now. Note II on Dec. 1st

    • JoshGroff

      I went Bionic > Rezound > Thunderbolt > G-Nex.

      • KOBALT

Nice. I was lucky to have an extra upgrade from someone. I have one now that I could use for the OneX, But i’m gonna use mine for the Note II and save the other for the summer if something better comes along. I’m all about a huge huge screen. So if something comes out with at least a 5.5″ screen and better specs next year, I’ll upgrade from the Note II and hand it down. I have numerous family members who will let me use their upgrades. πŸ˜‰

        • KOBALT

Now that I think of it, I used someone’s upgrade for the Bionic. Then went through 5 or so and complained enough to get a Rezound as a replacement. Im very happy with it. I just want it bigger!!!!!! πŸ˜€

        • JoshGroff

I just buy and sell used and take my upgrade when it comes. Actually, the Rezound downgrade was because I wanted my friend’s Wii, and he wanted to upgrade his Thunderbolt. Then I found a G-Nex on eBay for 150 (the previous owner got it stuck in a boot loop) and jumped on it.

          • KOBALT

My buddy does that wit his phones with tmobile. He buys and sells like crazy. Hopefully, I can get a decent penny for my Rezound come December. Just got a replacement from VZW a week ago. Had a screen protector and case on it since day one. I got extended and standard battery plus 4 standard doors as well as another full case. πŸ˜›

  • Fergette

Completely feels like a new phone. I’m one who ordered the Bionic the day it became available (after a long and patient wait for that too might I add) so I’ve been feeling pretty dissed over the last year+. Hoping we continue to see support for the Bionic and that the next promised update doesn’t run into the same problems this did. Still, feeling pretty happy right now.

    • Fergette

Gotta say though, my phone seems to be running excruciatingly slow now. Nothing loads and lots of apps are failing to respond. πŸ™ My happiness was short lived.

      • Ty Ty

It takes time for everything in ICS to get running up to speed the first time you boot it. Just have some patience.

        • Fergette

Thanks Ty Ty. We all know I’ve learned about patience being a Bionic owner.

      • Anon

        FDR and it should help.

  • moelsen8

talk about incompetence. if i recall correctly, it’s now a few days over a year since ICS was unvelied. wow.

    • jak_341

There simply is no excuse. Even JB came out 3 months ago. We should be finishing up JB roll out, and not ICS. This is yet another Moto failure.

      • JoshGroff

They’re the only manufacturer to have not rolled out ICS? Good to know, I’ll jot that down on my list of dumbest comments ever posted on droid-life.

        • LiterofCola

          I lol’d

        • Hell to the no …. LOL …

    • Jogan

This is the exact reason I will be switching from Motorola come March or so when I am up for an upgrade. I’d switch sooner but then wouldnt be able to keep my unlimited data… πŸ™ Its a shame…

      • PuzzleShot

Switch now or later, but if you’re staying on Verizon taking that upgrade is gonna take away your unlimited data. Upgrades don’t drop the off contract phone prices, but you don’t have to be upgrade eligible to buy one at the off-contracr price..

        • K L

There are ways to keep Unlimited Data, you just have to know how to do it.

          • Technique_AL

            Do tell…

          • D

            I’d like to know as well…. πŸ™‚

          • wckd wtch

I’d like to know how. I worked for them, but that was before they decided not to grandfather unlimited data

      • Actually, I would bet that Motorola becomes one of the quickest updaters in a year. Most of their phones share similar hardware, Blur is very minimally modified from stock, and an ex-Googler is now the CEO. Good times ahead for Moto.

        • Steven Fields

I think it is funny how some of these anti-moto trolls keep saying how they hate MotoBlur and how Moto is horrible at upgrading their devices…

Did they not read the part where Motorola was recently bought out by Google and that a NEW management team is in place? Do they not understand that it takes TIME to transition from old to new?

Patience. Motorola is going to be one of the best manufacturers again. Just be patient, people.

      • Bionic

Trust me, Verizon was holding it up, not motorola. Motorola was ready in the early summer to do this, but verizon refused.

      • mt

if you update your phone with a subsidized upgrade you will lose your unlimited data… just thought you should know. You need to pay full price for phones to keep your data.

      • RO

As I understand it, we will lose our unlimited data IF we get the upgrade at the subsidized price. If we pay full price, or “bring our own” (i.e. buy elsewhere or used), then we can keep unlimited data.

No point in waiting for the upgrade if you want to keep unlimited data….

    • techie1212

no kidding. =( I am kicking myself i didn’t get the iphone4. The bionic was amazing when I first got it. But, after 20 days & while on a phone call, it overheated and shut off permanently. They gave me a new one but now? This phone doen’t work like it should. =( BOOoooooo….BAD MOTOROLA!!!!!

  • MikeCiggy

any news on the HTC thunderbolt? My dad could use a performance and battery boost for sure

    • LionStone

I am expecting it by the end of the month, after that, “coming soon” πŸ™‚

  • and there was much rejoicing.

  • My download keeps freezing….anyone know where I can pull the download on my PC then shove it over on my phone?

    • It’s called google, my friend. That’s how I found it. Pointed me to droidforums.net

      • Guest

Yeah, I found that as well, but the link on there has been downloaded too much and google has stopped people from DLing it.

      • Yeah, I tried that. Unfortunately it has been downloaded too much and google put the axe on it for the time being. Still have the update you could email me?

    • UrDoGG

I’m with you. I have searched Google and haven’t found a manual download link yet…

    • Jeralmac
  • Raven65

Cry me a river, Bionic owners.
    – A thoroughly disgusted Droid X2 owner.

    • JoshGroff

You have it better than Thunderbolt owners, and I guess they have it better than Charge owners.

      • Raven65

LOL! Really?!?!? X2 owners have it better than Thunderbolt owners? LOL! Good one. The X2 is only 3G, is stuck on Gingerbread with a horrible version of MotoBlur, choked with bloatware & is buggy/unstable as hell. It was completely abandoned by Motorola when it was barely a year old – when I still had a year left on my contract before I could upgrade (this February FINALLY). Thanks to “dragonzkiller” I was finally able to root it and install his version of Cyanogenmod 7 – which had made it infinitely more stable/usable – but Moto still refuses to unlock the bootloader, so his attempts to get ICS and JB to run on it have been only partially successful. Kudos to him though… if not for his hard work, I would have thrown that POS against a wall a long time ago.
If Moto is going to abandon these devices while people are still stuck on contracts with them, they should AT LEAST unlock the bootloader so the devs can work with them.
Sorry for the threadjack. Congrats to Bionic owners! Enjoy your new/outdated OS. There’s NO REASON you shouldn’t be running Jellybean instead.

        • JoshGroff

4G with absolutely horrible battery life, and a single core processor.

          • LionStone

And you know, when I hear about the kind of battery life people are getting on their GNs, I think back and say, well I guess the battery life on my TB wasn’t that bad at all. πŸ™‚

          • JoshGroff

            They’re about the same.

    • Diablo81588

Go grab your 100 dollar credit and be quiet.

      • Raven65

Would if I could. Still stuck in my current contract for four more months.

  • SecurityNick

I would be really ticked off about this if I still owned my Bionic… worst.purchase.ever. I had such high expectations for that phone, it’s such a shame that Motorola forgot about it and everyone that purchased it.

  • Geekswife1992

I got the update several days ago, but the install keeps failing. Anyone else having trouble?

    • JoshGroff

Are you rooted? Did you freeze any apps?

      • DanSan

yea, had the same issue with my gf’s razr… i had to reinstall the stock apps in order to install the ICS update.

      • Geekswife1992

Yes, I am rooted. As far as I can remember I have not frozen any apps. I’m not sure how to check for that other than going into /system/app folder or /data/data folder and looking for files with something other than .apk .opex file extension.. I thought foeverroot was supposed to help with this kind of situation.

        • JoshGroff

Forever root is only to preserve root over an OTA. Umm, not sure how to check if apps are frozen with titanium backup because I don’t have the paid version, but I know you can check using ROM Toolbox. (just not sure if it’s a paid or free feature.)

          • Geekswife1992

Thank you for the tip. I went intoTiBa and verified that no apps are frozen. I haven’t done anything real fancy with root. I use it mainly for backing up. I wonder if Bionic bootstrap has anything to do with it.

          • JoshGroff

I think I was safestrapped when I took the .902 GB update, so I don’t think that would cause a problem.

          • Geekswife1992

I don’t know what to think. I have read that others are able to re-root so I’ll go that route when I get back home tonight. Thanks for the help.

          • Geekswife1992

Well, after many hours and several attempts, I finally have ICS on my Bionic. This whole process is ridiculous if you ask me. The only reason I root is so I can do simple 1 step, 1 app backups.
So I had to download stockrom, flash it, download update, apply it, and then reroot. Thankfully, I found a stockrom to flash that didn’t wipe my data too. Only a hand full of apps had a problem with the update. TiBa rescued me again.

    • KOBALT

Try a full reset of the phone with a battery pull, then try again.

      • Geekswife1992

I did that. No go πŸ™

  • Buckoman

Have fun, Bionic owners. You deserve it.

    • Brandal Wagener

What about us Electrify and Photon users? πŸ™

      • Kyle Cummings

Looks like my photon will have to stay on AOKP jellybean for now..

      • michael arazan

Sprint Photon owners were offered a one time only charge of $25 to buy an ICS feature phone and it would reset your 2 year contract, for buying the photon, since it was guaranteed ics. Also Moto is offering $100 on your next moto phone. I’d combine both deals and get a new phone and $75 back on Sprint, if i was on it.

        • Brandal Wagener

I suppose I have to give credit to motorola for owning up to its mistake and offering to help you upgrade. However, I have a tough time forgiving phone companies, especially HTC, and will be trying my luck with samsung and the Note 2 instead

    • dp5

Battery drains extremely fast on 4g…can’t get to my emails just keeps loading…Bluetooth issues when trying to listen to music thru car.

      • jorgegortex

Having the same issue. Its eating my battery like no tomorrow. Also finding lag when doing stuff in gmail and other similar apps. This is after I updated and then rebooted the phone a second time as well. I can only hope it sorts out as all apps update and all accounts sync. Otherwise… grrr.

        • Battery life is zapped like crazy as well. Also, you have a unlock to view all Texts. Those that have extended battery life please send tips!

      • MGardnerDA1235

can’t send text messages, downloads have slowed to a crawl…can’t add app groups to home screen (says it creates shortcut, but doesn’t)…very sluggish and apps are non-responsive…the menu option to turn off 4G is disabled…airplane mode toggle widget is gone…

        • Sherie

Having same problems with major battery drain. What has happened past few days. What did you end up doing to resolve issues if you have resolved them?

          • MGardnerDA1235

I had to do a Factory Data Reset. It took care of everything except the sluggishness and ability to disable 4G…which seems to have been intentional. I found just one app that will let me turn off 4G: Phone Info (it’s not a menu, literally search for an app called ‘phone info.’ Apps still freeze every time open them or mid-use. I lost some contact info on the reset, most specifically: contact photos. Those survived a previous Factory Data Reset and the ICS upgrade…so I don’t know why they disappeared this time.

  • MJZ

    Feels like a new phone.
GREAT battery life with the stock battery now.

This is how the phone should have been when it came out.

    • Bionic

I have the extended battery and my batt life is on the level of a Razr Maxx.

      • Jigga_Z

        • JoshGroff

The extended battery is 2800mah or something and the processor is clocked 200mhz lower per core, it’s about the same life as the MAXX. Pretty much one of the things I miss the most since I sold my Bionic.

          • Spencer

I have the extended battery but it only lasted me a day yesterday. Usually i can get two days from one full charge. The OS is using 25% of my battery. What gives?

          • JoshGroff

I dunno. πŸ™ Maybe an app preventing your phone from sleeping?

      • cheezer88

i have 2 extended and 2 regular batteries for sale

  • mastaking

I love Droid life but this post makes me sick. 4.2 is being announced next week and a recent phone is just getting 4.0. Terrible

    • JoshGroff

Meh. That’s our carriers for ya.

      • Geekswife1992

I hold Motorola responsible. They put out too many devices and can’t keep up. Or won’t.

        • JoshGroff

Looks at G-Nex taking ~6 months to get 4.0.4. Yep, totally going to blame Motorola on this one.

          • DanSan

            one word..

          • Prox

Verizon is at fault on this one. I think there WAS a bigger issue with the CDMA/LTE radio firmware then VZW leads us to believe. They wont come out and say it but that is my hunch. I think thats why they are pushing for VoLTE ASAP. One radio technology for both data/voice, less issues for VZW. I also do believe VZW has figured out some of the major issues with the radio firmware over the past year, the part about switching between CDMA and GSM/UMTS radios.

    • You can’t please anybody now a days can you

      • LiterofCola

        Haha, exactly.

    • jak_341

Can’t agree more. However, anyone reading this site should know that buying anything other than the GNex was a bad move. Come to think of it, that still holds true today. An S3 is an ok solution, due to an unlockable bootloader.

      • LiterofCola

S3 is an okay solution? If you are saying that the Nexus is a better all around phone than the S3 then you are looney tunes Sir.

    • Butters619

      1) 4.2 isn’t out yet
      2) How many phones have 4.1?

Be happy for the bionic owners. The GB to ICS jump is a big one in form and functionality.

  • Shimamasu

    Awesome!!! It made my day!

  • speraider430

    • Bionic

      fap fap fap fap

  • great, now im sharing same software level with these people. ugh. we galaxy s3 elitists need jelly bean pronto.

    • KOBALT

      Texas sucks

      • LiterofCola

  • JoshGroff

Sweet! Now Bionic users can freeze bloatware. πŸ™‚

    • KOBALT

My battery life easily increased 30% after disabling VZW garbage and other unwanted things. Do it!!!!

      • JoshGroff

        I don’t have bloatware to freeze. πŸ™

        • KOBALT

I could never figure out the flashing of my Rezound coming from my DX. It’s totally different. I just figured Id wait until my new phone before I get back in to the ROM game like I used to. I do miss Liberty πŸ™

          • JoshGroff

Liberty, ah the good ol Bionic and X2 days. Hmm, wonder if the G-Nex has Liberty.

          • KOBALT

The dev support was so awesome and the features within the ROMS were above and beyond anything. Big fan of Team Black Hat as well. I miss all of them.

      • techie1212

how to disable the vzw garbage?? challenged πŸ˜•

    • Bionic

      Yup, and i did.

  • zepfloyd
