Samsung Starts Upgrading International Galaxy SIII to Jelly Bean Today, Announces Other Devices Too

What better way to start your week than with some Jelly Bean upgrades? Samsung announced today that the rollout of Android 4.1 to the International version of the Galaxy S3 is starting. Google Now, Project Butter and the rest of the goodies in Jelly Bean will soon be smothered with TouchWiz and sent out to devices across Europe. No word on the upgrades for this side of the pond, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Samsung also announced all of the devices that they plan on upgrading at some point and it’s a fairly extensive list. The Galaxy SII and SII Skyrocket, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Tab 2 10.1 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 will all be getting Jelly Bean at some point. Again, no mention of a timeframe for these upgrades, just that they will be coming at some point.

Anxious to see Samsung’s version of Jelly Bean? Or do you hate the TouchWiz?

  • Please update our laggy Galaxy sIII U.S version “Samsung” I thought our U.S.A S3 were faster than iPhone 5: They are not. Comply with your statement “IT DOESNT TAKE A GENIUS”, International owners arent only ones with S3!

I just got the Jelly Bean update on my Galaxy Nexus! Thanks VZW!

  • ScoobySnack

When is my VZW Galaxy Tab 10.1 getting JB? Just got ICS and I’m already desiring some butter. This is ridiculous…

    Stick to the Nexus line.

  • Glad to see the Galaxy Tab 7+ on the list.

  • TheCheapGamer

Somewhat off subject. My S3 auto updated and broke root. Anyone know how to reapply? (Or just rerun the program again?)

  • Armus75

Next month, the US gets jb – except Verizon who has to control everything. For us, we get it next year.

  • NicholasMicallef

Hopefully SGS II leaks start coming out soon, so CM10 can be fixed :D.

these updates really eff’n annoy me…between carrier and manufactures with their own timelines it a wonder that anything ever gets updated…Google, the carriers and manufactures should really get together on these things and have proper timelines when releasing…I love the developer community and the work that they do but these companies really need to get their sh!t together and take a lesson from the developers.

  • I know I’m probably going to HATE myself for asking this but lets go: I bought a GSIII off of eBay and it turned out to be stolen. My over all experience with it was great but I’m returning it. I was considering getting a Galaxy Nexus but the on-screen keys have me weary. Should I go for a Galaxy S III or Galaxy Nexus? BTW, I’m on T-Mobile and I don’t care too much about Jelly Bean as I use MIUI or other types. Thanks!

being afraid of the Galaxy Nexus because of the on-screen keys is just crazy. It has literally never been a problem for me. I have also never heard of it being an issue for anyone. One of the best things is that now with JB, when the on-screen keyboard is up, the back key changes to a down-arrow, indicating that when you tap it, the keyboard will go away. Just generally adds a bit of intuition into the UI. Seriously, don’t let on-screen keys hold you back.

      • I guess it always just bugged me because I had this idea that the phone would freezer and the buttons would do nothing. I know it sounds silly but okay. That aside, how’s battery on it?

        • boardjnky4

Could probably be better. All depends on how you use it though. I would look around the internet for some more information on that.

    • I just sold a nexus for an S3 and couldn’t be happier. The on screen keys on the nexus weren’t a problem though.

    • ScottyByrd

The battery life on the S3 is a whole lot better than that of the Nexus. I stopped using my Nexus for the S3

  • BoomBoomPow

is there any word on when the patch to make Verizon wireless’s GS3 global ready?

    • It took them three months for the nexus so expect that amount of time

  • AlexKCMO

Out of curiosity, does this mean Samsung abandoned S-Voice in favor of Google Now?

    • e_droid

I doubt it unless they are abandoning TouchWiz anytime soon.

      • AlexKCMO

The article said they’d be getting Google Now. Seems silly to have both.

        • e_droid

Google Now is tied into Jelly Bean, S-Voice is apart of TouchWiz. I can totally see them running both or tying S-Voice into Google Now.

  • Come on T-Mo My S3 needs some Jelly Bean!!!!

    • fixxmyhead

theres leaks for ur device and very stable from what ive heard

      • Not into rooting and messing with my phone, although I have had experience with an old android tablet and rooting and installing different roms.

        • fixxmyhead

dude u should. at least to get rid of the bloatware u dont even have to mess with anything else. i know u can disable them and hide them but personally i cant stand to even have it on my phone even if its disabled. it has to be removed

  • enerjak

I hate TouchWiz. Looks ugly. Sounds ugly. I feel ugly using it. But I can’t wait for the update so I can root/unlock and never look back!

    • fixxmyhead

are u just saying that to look ‘pro’?

the new touchwiz looks clean and slick. they even incorporated holo accents into touchwiz this time around

  • Buy This

I just convinced VZW to send me a (probably refurb’d) Gnex for free. I get to keep unlimited and my upcoming upgrade in December. All I have to do is send my Bionic back to them. And they had to send me the extended battery cause they were out of the regular. Anyone got any suggestions?

  • S2556

this is awesome news! hopefully carriers don’t mess it up though.
I could really careless though because AOKP on this thing is a beast. Not that it actually means anything but I have the highest score on antutu for my device haha

  • Can’t wait!!!

  • c4v3man

Congrats to international S3 owners… now us Verizon S3 owners can start the 6 month clock to get our own release… 🙁

Too bad the camera app is tied into Touchwiz, or else I’d just run a CM10 derivative.

    • Camera on CM10 works fine

      • camera apps…. the reason i just run an aosp launcher with touchwiz on my sgs3, the camera app really makes the camera great and you can’t get that with aosp

        • NicholasMicallef

yeah stock camera app and video player both suck… Samsung version of both apps are way better.

      • c4v3man

That’s the problem. It works “fine”. The Touchwiz camera app has many more features, and works far better. Taking 6MP stills while recording video is pretty handy at times…

    • Chronon7364

My biggest complaint with CM10 Camera app: can’t seem to store photos to external SD Card.

  • My only experience with TouchWiz is on the GTab10.1. On a tablet it is not so bad and there are some neat features, but I could not imagine it on a phone really.
