CyanogenMod 9 Hits Release Candidate 2, Final Release ‘Just Around the Corner’

We have seen working builds starting to pop up of CyanogenMod 10 based off of Jelly Bean code, but the team is still hard at work to make a final release of CM9 at some point soon. Release Candidate 2 is now being cranked out by the build servers and adds support for a few new devices, one of which is the international version of the Galaxy SIII:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (all variants)
  • Samsung Galaxy SII on AT&T – Skyrocket
  • Samsung Galaxy SII on T-Mobile – Hercules
  • Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T

This RC2 includes bug fixes and translation changes that the CM team says put them in the right direction for their final CM9 build “which should be just around the corner.” As always, you can get the downloads for your device at Get.CM and if you’re lucky your phone might have a nightly build of CM10.

although i dont use it anymore it would be nice to get some tbolt love!

  • KellyS

    half assed junk. no thanks.

  • AranelAlasse

does CM9 work for the Droid 4?

  • greeknasty

CM is a joke now. AOKP or die. nobody wants to wait a decade for a stable release for a rom regardless “from scratch” or not

  • panicswhenubered

Awesome some CM9 love. See you’re still rocking that terrible CID mascot, CM team….

  • CompCrash

Verizon GNex (toro) is on that list! Downloading it now.

  • Meh they ditched razr maxx and take forever to update. stock ics FTW!

  • Its very smooth on my Galaxy note! Glad i flashed it =D

  • Trevor

Coooool just forget about cm9 rc for samsung galaxy tab 10.1.

  • CoCoCalypso

CM takes too long with their releases. I mean, they haven’t even released a ICS ROM yet when others are dialing in their JB ROMS.

Don’t get me wrong I love CM, its of the best, and that’s all i used to use. But, when they do fianly come out, I tend to find that they aren’t any less buggy than a AOKP or even an OTA for that matter…

    I’ve moved on.

  • Robin Hu

Well…I own non of those devices :/

  • SecurityNick

Anyone know if you need to wipe data and cache if coming from RC1?

    • moelsen8

i only wiped cache. been good all day. i’m on toro.

  • come on

no one really cares about CM9, just give us CM10. ICS is old news. Seriously, CM9 has taken longer than some manufacturers

    • fixxmyhead

hahaha the man speaks the truth.

  • Murph

someone educate me please (possibly to the obvious, i know) but why no RAZR? Is it the bootloader? If so, why are other ROMs possible on the RAZR?

  • dragonflyr

    CM who?

  • Nick Daulton

Can not wait for a feature filled silky smooth Jelly Bean release canidate. 😉

    • CoCoCalypso

You mean like 6 months or more from now?

      • Highly doubt it will be that long. CM9 only took so long cause of the full rewrite. CM10 just needs their CM9 code ported over into the new structure.

      • Nick Daulton

        That’s what nightlies are for.

  • kamikaze

    How about a camera fix?

  • I love CM, but do they not see that they need to change their release schedule a little bit? An RC of the previous OS version when the next release is already in the wild doesn’t make sense to me.

    • Michael Forte

I agree, when JB is basically ICS on steroids, why not just focus on CM10? It’s just like the manufacturers always being an OS update behind when they finally update phones.

      • michael arazan

Also, how many of our apps are going to work with all these JB builds? Not every dev has even finished updates for ics compatibility. I have only 5-6 apps that have been updated to work with JB. I’d like to flash some type of stock JB, but if my apps aren’t going to work with it, that really nullifies having JB or a JB rom.

    • G-Nex

I agree, CM is so far behind that they’re becoming irrelevant.

    • moelsen8

CM is pretty rock solid though. gummy has been acting up on me for a while now and i was just too lazy to change it, but finally did a few days ago. everything works very well in cm9.

but yeah, as soon as some more serious roms come out for JB i’m making the permanent switch. i need my notification toggles and crap.

  • i wish there is one for galaxy s3
