XP Mod Launcher Turns Your Phone Into a Windows Powered Machine

I’m sure many of you are quite familiar with Windows XP, so why wouldn’t you want to experience it on your phone? As a launcher, XP Mod works pretty well actually. You have  shortcuts to your browser, file shortcuts, and of course your pull-up menu where you access all of your apps and settings. It has a ways to go to be something people would use as a daily substitute, but huge props to this development team for bringing XP to Android. Download it from Google Play and have some fun with it. You won’t be disappointed.

I wonder if I can run FL with this.

  • PC_Tool

    Finally…a competitor for Surface Tablets!

    Heh…

  • Benjamin Parker

It works. Definitely an interesting skin. I hope they work out the bugs and build this up more.

  • Twiztid Chaos

Don’t install this and put it in your multimedia station. You’ll never get it to close, even with a restart. Very annoying. Had to go through the play store to uninstall it.

    • PC_Tool

?? I just went into settings and cleared defaults on it. Next time I hit “home”, it asked me which to use, chose Nova, and we’re back in business.

“I’m sure many of you are quite familiar with Windows XP, so why wouldn’t you want to experience it on your phone?”

    HA.

  • MrWicket

…Kinda like a burger with no meat :

  • ddevito

Wow. I just woke up after having a bad dream about running Windows on my Android phone.

    Wait…oh sh1t

  • Heretic

Cool. I just installed it on my Ice Cream Sandwiched Kindle Fire.

  • master94

Why would I downgrade to xp when stock android is the best UI already

    • JoshGroff

To relive the glory days before Windows dived downhill?

  • shehippie

This is fun!!! I like it!

  • frankandsimple

    “”
, so why wouldn’t you want to experience it on your phone? “”

LOL….. I hope you are being sarcastic.

  • Matt Gondek

Interesting, I think my GNex has a better processor than my old desktop that ran XP

  • Doug

    Eehhhh. Windows Mobile

  • SecurityNick

Tried it, but got the blue screen of death. J/k.

      Try
      @echo off
      del c:WINDOWSsystem32

0% of the time it works every single time

lol people getting all worked up for nothing. I think it’s something fun to mess with. Would I use it on a regular basis? NOPE, but I’m sure the developer doesn’t expect that either. Android, while profitable for some, to others is just a hobby and to develop something like this is pretty sweet.

  • zkdreads

just downloaded and deleted it before i blinked. it SUCKS

  • Stephen Becht

    really nice on webtop

  • Superdroid

Holy crap this thing is awesome on my tablet. Saving the apk in my safe!

  • skinja

I thought we all hated windows. I know I do. I am hoping to put android on my next laptop.

  • http://twitter.com/tonydsm Tony Nguyen

Nice effort, but why? could have used the effort to develop something more useful. If you want a full XP desktop on your little tablet or phone, just install TeamViewer on your XP PC and connect to it remotely from your phone.. bam.. a full XP desktop right on your phone for free.

  • Boblank84

Preety sweet, not something i would use but its just awesome to see what developers can do w/ android.

  • RoadsterHD1

anyone know where i can see a video of this?

  • Pat Hamilton

Just reminds me how ugly xp is.

  • infirst

Can’t get it to shut off on my dx. Any help?

    • PC_Tool

Go ijnto settings, “apps” and clear defaults on XP Mod. The next time you hit “home” you can select your normal home launcher.

      …or uninstall it.

  • BrianT

Now if I can just run an Android OS emulator inside this launcher window, I bet I can fold the universe back onto itself and rip the universe apart… if Apple doesn’t file a patent on it first.

    • noc007

      Do NOT divide by zero!

      • feztheforeigner

I did it in the Android calculator…

        The answer is infinity…

        O.o

  • zorak19620

But can it run Crysis running Windows XP?

  • will bartlett

it works well except for the fact that everything is so tiny

  • Allen Byrd

Wow, sounds awesome. Seems like it’d be a bit small and clunky on a phone, but would probably be great on a tablet. I’d rather stick with Android, as it is more optimized for the hardware, but it’d be really fun to use. Ah, memories.

  • MKader17

    Dang, it works nice!

  • Trevor

The whole reason I bought an Android phone in the first place was to AVOID Windows…

  • MKader17

Well hopefully this will make running windows from an Android tablet feel, act and look more native in the future.

  • lumpysherman

    Why would you do this??

  • Alexander Garcia

    that’s… interesting…

  • http://twitter.com/jdhas jdhas

Cease and desist order from Microsoft in 3…2…1….

    • Dan Treacy

Yeah no kidding…that’s why I’m downloading it now and using Titanium Backup to save the .apk.

  • http://www.deathbycone.com Jared Kotoff

I’m not sure how i feel about this. lol

  • TROLOLOL

not sure if that’s what they meant by “Windows Phone”

  • mustbepbs

    This is awesome.

  • Droidzilla

What’s next, a mod that turns my sandwich into a piece of poo?

  • corkis84

    Does it do Solitaire?

    • EvanTheGamer

      Forget that…Minesweeper FTW!

    • http://twitter.com/jackh0lt Jack Holt

      Or Minesweeper…
