Official My XBOX Live App Finally Lands on Android

Finally, right? An official XBOX Live app is now available on Android from Microsoft and it looks fantastic. You can track achievements, watch gaming videos, change up your avatar, message friends, and edit your Live profile all from within. But along with that list of features, we seriously are impressed by the quality of this app. Swiping between screens and into different sections is met by beautiful transitions and that Metro UI that Windows Phone has become known for. Go get it and tell us what you think.

Cheers Anish!

doesn’t work on galaxy tab 270

  • It is so worth a good chuckle to see how Microsoft is trying to get back on the Google bus.
The have been on the short bus, and the didn’t like the view. Douche Bags!!!

  • EvanTheGamer

Honestly can’t tell ya how long I’ve waited for such an app to finally hit the Android Market, seriously can’t tell ya how long I’ve waited.

Pretty freaking awesome! Hit up Magic Mountain all day yesterday, so haven’t had time to download and use this app yet, but doing so right now.

    HELL yeah!!

P.S. Now all we need is an official Raptr app on Android, and BAM!

EDIT: And just like that…after maybe 5 minutes of use, I am HIGHLY impressed of the quality of this app! Everything is so fluid, beautiful and very user-friendly. It’s magnificent. I mean, I guess if you were a person who isn’t an avid Xbox LIVE gamer, then you probably wouldn’t give a rats ass in hell, but since I’m an avid Xbox LIVE gamer, this is freaking surreal. I haven’t been this excited about an app since I heard the official Steam app was coming to Android.

Damn, the My Xbox LIVE app truly rocks!

  • really cool i hope microsoft updated this app and get Android 4.0 HOLO UI 🙂

  • duray

does it have notifications like when a friend goes online?

    • b00ky

I haven’t found that setting if it exists. I was hoping for that too. I would really like it if you could mark friends as “favorites” like some of the other third-party Xbox Live apps out there so you only get notifications for the friends you want them for,

  • coltinunruh

It’s about time they do something. I don’t mind the windows UI because this app actually works really well.

  • James E. Bryson

    Too little, too late

  • Kyle Bailey

Now only if I had an app like this for my PS3

    • Lyshote

Can’t even get one for the Xperia Play.

  • It sucks that the iOS has more features like a Remote Control and Quick Play options when you connect it to your Xbox.

  • Jason Dingle

My goodness that took a long time been waiting on this since forever.

  • Installed, works well. Now Mircosoft: GET A FREAKIN’ ZUNE APP AND YOU’LL GET A BILLION SUBSCRIBERS.

Seriously- Zune Pass or MS Music or whatever they call it is the best streaming service there is, and they’re ruining the thing by limiting its use to Zune players and the Xbox.

  • Knlegend1

Now there is absolutely no reason for WP7 to exist I guess.

    • possomcrast1

No reason to be hostile. Windows Phone is actually a really good platform I just prefer android. If i had another choice it would be them but I’d never change.

      • Knlegend1

I didn’t say it was bad I know its a solid platform, been saying that since 7.5. I just felt certain Microsoft apps were keeping it alive and this was one of them. I’m not surprised though they are a software company first.

  • possomcrast1

This is really good. I give Microsoft major props for doing something I would have never expected:being cross platform. I was surprised when I saw that project class would be for android and ios and I’m surprised again that they’ve done this.

  • Joe

Works on Galaxy Nexus, but won’t work on Transformer Prime. But, Yes, on my phone it runs smooth and is very nicely put together!

  • Is this the first step in bring the Smart Glass to Android? I sure hope so! 360 integration into Android would be so awesome!

  • Marco

I’ve been using spark 360 forever, time for some thing new

  • I, for one, am disappointed to see them use the Windows Phone UI rather than the Android ICS UI. It’s like they’re forcing Windows Phone down our throats.

    • Cowboydroid

I’ve seen people whine about Google not following Metro UI in Chrome for Metro, then MS goes and does something like this…good thing I have nothing invested in Microsoft’s “ecosystem.”

      • I think if you’re going to develop for any platform, you should follow the design conventions of that platform.

        • Cowboydroid

Exactly…tell that to the thousands of iOS developers that port their crummy apps to Android, and then whine about poor app sales.

  • It’s very pretty and works well on my Nexus, I really like the interface

  • Matt Gondek

I gotta say I like the look and feel of this bad boy. Almost makes me give hope to WP8

  • Nice.

  • Flyinion

Now if only they would build a Zune app, I’d be set 🙂

  • It runs pretty rough on my ancient X but soon not be the case on my new SIII and unlim data tho 🙂

  • It’s amazing how long it takes companies like MS/Xbox to make an app when they don’t even have a mobile site. HOW DO THEY NOT HAVE A MOBILE SITE?!

  • Apparently even thought I can download the app from the market, my droid X is not going to run the app well enough so I can install the app, just not use it.

  • Using it now to update my Avatar, it’s very nice so far and incredibly smooth. Now they need to make the jump and let us play the Xbox Live Windows Phone games on Android! I think they would make so much money….anyone think that’s a future possibility?

  • Eff you too microsoft. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27280974/xboxlive.png
Can’t you please make an app that doesn’t suck on tablets? PLEASE.
    Also, stop forcing portrait mode.

  • LMK

pretty cool but honestly the ability to play xbox live games is the biggest thing making me take a look at WP8.

  • Andrew

    That icon is brutal

  • Greg Morgan

Yep, ’bout time. But i’ll say its running pretty smooth! I like it!
