Could the BeeRaider Keyboard’s Unique Design Improve Your Texting Efficiency?

YouTube Preview Image

There are more keyboards available for Android devices than we could even possibly count. So, it’s not a rarity that you find one with a rather unique look once in a while. The newest one we have come across is BeeRaider Keyboard. Given it’s black and yellow color scheme, we can see why they might have chosen Bee for the title, but we’re still trying to figure out where Raider comes into play.

With an extremely unique design (not as unique as …), it may take some getting used to as a daily board. Check the video out and let us know what you think. Does it have potential?

We would encourage anyone to visit our website (www.beeraider.com) and read what we have to say about our unique Keyboard Design, before they pass any judgement on it.  Two pages on our website in particular, go into great detail on the reasoning behind the design and how best to use/learn it.  Check out the ‘Support’ and ”Design Philosophy’ pages.

We stand over what we say.  Our keyboard is logical, ergonomic, efficient and compact (in physical form).  If you spend the time to carefully read what we have to say about it, you may well come round to the same conclusion.

We believe that the standard QWERTY keyboard is illogical, non-ergonomic and inefficient and we explain why this is so on our website for those who who don’t know the history behind it. As for Swyping (especially on Tablet devices), it involves a whole lot of finger-travel, while our design succeeds in minimising finger-travel (see our US Efficient Layout).

    Regards!
    Ray.

Well, I’m gonna chime in, too….  I’ve tried out many different keyboards.  Being that I like to keep a decent length on my nails, I’ve always insisted on a physical keyboard (so I can type with my nails), however, for the last 3 months I’ve been enjoying the pleasures of a RAZR and finding out that not having a keyboard isn’t as hindering as I suspected it would be!  However, a good keyboard app is DETRIMENTAL to this shift!  I tried several of them out on my D2G, but it took me all of about 3 minutes to be absolutely blown away by SwiftKay X.  I think it knows what I want to say even before I do!

all we need is for swype and swiftkey to join forces with blind type…problem solved

Nope, Blintype, I mean the ICS keyboard is the hands down best ever.  Swype is a close second but I absolutely despise having to argue with my keyboard’s predictive text.  And Swype is terrible at browsers and swiftkey has some annoying habits too.

Can’t use anything else quite as well as Swype for me

    BEERAIDER WHY YOU NO GOOD?

    this is poo

  • Dan-O

    Oakland Raiders colors maybe?

  • Joshua Granville

So they made a video but don’t actually use it?

  • Krismith724

I don’t know how every android user isn’t using ShapeWriter. By far the best, even though its no longer in the market (play store).

  • sgtguthrie

II see they’re trying for ergonomics, but there’s way to much wasted screen real estate!

  • sgtguthrie

I’m not a fan. If swiftkey x tablet would just implement a split keyboard for portrait mode, I’d likely never even try a different keyboard! I’m a big fan of the ai word predictions swiftkey has. As much as I like thumb keyboard for its customization, it’s word predictions don’t even compare to swiftkey!

  • ourblackenedsun

Tried it for a few minutes. Couldn’t wrap my head around it. Returned it. Did not feel intuitive in the least.

  • Eric Franca

Can’t we just get a keyboard that uses swype and a prediction engine that accurately guesses what you’re trying to swype, even if you do it very inaccurately? I’m sick of “Utah” instead of “Yeah” or “our” instead of “or,” for instance. Those would seem really easy fixes I think. When will I ever start a sentence with Utah? Anyone know of anything like that? I’ve heard that the “prediction” or “auto-correct” of swype is as good as you get in comparison to other swyping keyboards…

    • Mike

The Utah Chamber of Commerce paid off the Swype developers.

I believe TouchPal keyboard advertises that it does what you just described.  I really haven’t given it a shot since it was in alpha or beta: it was very rough back then but that was quite a while ago.  It’s in the market now.

  • Josh Nichols

    I prefer Blindtype :)

    • Droidzilla

Otherwise known as “stock ICS keyboard.”

  • radiohead14

i suck at texting, but swype has helped me greatly

  • Haso

    Swiftkey or die

  • Scott

I hated it to no end too.  To each their own.

  • Logan_jinx

I doubt that there is anything better than swiftkey.

    • thebluegod

SwiftKey annoys me to no end when I use it. It’s “predictions” are useless since most of the times it outputs something radically different from what I typed. Kind of like autocorrect on the iPhone.

      • sgtguthrie

Switch your typing style to “rapid” and it will work amazingly! At least it does for me ;-) People actually ask me how I type so fast on my phone!

        • Kyle Fullmer

It doesn’t learn the way they say it does.  For me it still types “passed” why I type “pissed” and even people names like niherjit (he’s indian) get turned into inherited.  The combination of letters isn’t even close, it would only make sense if I was randomly selecting letters and wanting swiftkey to unscramble it for me.  Alas, I still use it because I can’t find anything better.

          • sgtguthrie

If you haven’t typed a word before (mostly swear words, some slang, and some names) before pressing the space bar, touch the word you just typed in the recommendations bar all the way on the left, then it’s learned and will know it next time you type ;-)

        • thebluegod

Thanks for the tip, it’s a bit better now but still has some issues with learning words.

      • JulianZHuang

never got a wrong word from swiftkey X.

    • tomn1ce

Don’t know about that I’ve been using it for the past couple of days. For some reason unknown to me, the sugestions come up whenever it wants. I have it set to show me the sugestions but it doesn’t always work. I had no problem with the stock keyboard on my G-Nexus but I wanted to change the color of the keyboard without having to root my device.

    • rohicks

I’ve tried all keyboards and I always go back to thumb keyboard.

I sometime wish it had swyping ability, but i don’t care. It’s fast, I love the customization, and thumb layout.

    • http://androidforums.com/members/kwest12.html kwest12

FTFY: I doubt that there is anything better than swype.

      • thebluegod

Swype is amazing, but sometimes it can get annoying, especially when theres friction when dragging your finger across the screen (I have a screen protector). I usually switch between Swype and Thumb Keyboard or recently the ICS keyboard.

      • Jdstell

Swype is awesome. I just wish they would get rid of that stupid Dragon voice-to-text garbage and go back to google voice input.

  • Boblank84

Seems odd they would not offer a trail.  I wouldn’t buy this before using it for at least a few days…

    • evltwn

That’s why they give you a whole 15 min.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1148820665 Dustin Howard

15 minutes is not long enough to properly test a keyboard, ive spent over $10 on keyboards that i dont even have installed on any devices anymore. not alot of money, but enough to keep away those who have already learned this lesson.

        • evltwn

          guess sarcasm isn’t for everyone….

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1148820665 Dustin Howard

that was terrible sarcasm. hands down. just sayin.

    • http://beerpla.net Artem Russakovskii

      A trial. It’s called a trial. Not a trail.

  • JulianZHuang

15mins arent enough for me to test it out. i will pass.

  • Michael Forte

    What is this…I don’t even…?

  • http://twitter.com/baedert baedert

    Remember 8pen?

    • Russ

I remember 8pen. I tried it… didn’t like it. This keyboard does remind me of that one but at least 8pen had a free trial. There’s no way I’m going to buy anything this radical without trying it out first. I’ll stick with good old reliable Swype thankyouverymuch.

      • http://twitter.com/dizknee24 Peter Wassel

yeah seriously. 1.50 for a completly untested app….no thanks.

        • Noyfb

first review said the delete button didn’t work and it doesn’t have predictive text

    • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

      8pen takes the cake :P

    • cizzlen

lol came to post this but forgot what it’s horrible name was. so much fail

  • Ron

They need to have a free trial version for something so radical

  • [[[…babysmoker…]]]

    Be-rate-r?

  • Looollool

too bad the video doesn’t actually show anyone physically using it
