Report: Samsung Confirms Galaxy Nexus on Verizon to be Released in December

We posted this as an update to our latest Verizon MAP pricing post, but wanted to make sure everyone saw it. According to Business Insider, Samsung has reportedly confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus will launch in December. They did not give a specific date or reason for the push from November. To be fair to Verizon, they did say that the phone would be out some time this year. December 8 is popping up as the current target date.

Cheers Josh!

  • Rebel447

I so want this phone baaadd, but theres better phones around the corner oh and id rather get the transformer prime instead of the phone, Verizon is making easy on what I will get and it aint dual core!

  • Aoholmes95

Screw this bought the rezound for a penny 4 gbs-needed to add a line for my gparents anyway. Switched my x2 unlimited plan to the rezound. This phone is a thing of beauty and the speed is ridiculous. No lag

jeez, relax people. It will come.  And I’d rather them take a little more time and get it working correctly.  I hate my Bionic and it’s data drop issue.

doesn’t matter, as long as it comes before christmas!

I’ll get prostate cancer before this phone comes out

i mean i know this only like, what, 2 weeks? but its seriously killing me now.

  • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

And people wonder why they put skins on phones….look at these comments, a lot of people are not buying the nexus!? How could you buy a skinned phone when you could have a pure lag free experience? If people would stop buying skinned phones companies actually might stop skinning…with the nexus on Verizon no more excuses

    • Christopher Riner

I hear ya.  Ya know, everytime I see shitty news about the nexus it breaks my heart and makes me want to break my monitor.  I’ll read the latest rumor, get pissed off, start calling verizon reps and cussing them in spanish, spit repeatedly at my phone and hang up, and then cry myself to sleep.  Especially when I read comments from people talking about how all this hype is causing them to not want the phone anymore.

You know the saying, “too much of a good thing, is a bad thing?”  Well I believe that definitely rings true with this phone.  I’m still going to love my nexus when I get it, no matter how close quad core phones are, but the fact of the matter is, that no matter how bug-free this phone is when I get it, that whole “new toy” experience is just not going to be quite as exhilirating as it would’ve been if the phone came out this week.  Its pretty bad when you think that the phone will be the exact same thing when its released, as it was when it was presented at google– but that somehow it won’t seem quite as good.  That’s what happened with the bionic– this passed spring, I wanted the bionic and then all summer long I waited and waited and looked like a jackass when I walked into the verizon store like 2 months before it was released, and almost bought a phone swearing to all of them that I would be in the 14 day window to exchange it.  All I wanted was a phone that had all of the cool new hardware that had been available piece by piece on android smartphones for months– a dual core processor, a front facing camera, and (of course) LTE.  Had I gotten the phone then, I would have loved it.  By the time the bionic came out, I was sorely dissappointed and to this day I’m glad I didn’t get it.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again– verizon is turning the nexus into the bionic.

Yet as I sit here, in my uber state of dismay, I have to sit back and think about one thing– this nexus really is badass.  Yeah, its been “hypebeasted” or whatever the hell you call it for what seems like for effin EVER now, but the fact of the matter is, this is a pure google phone.  No skins, no UI’s… maybe a little bloatware, but at least its not underwear (? not sure, so don’t ask).  Ice cream sandwich has thus far proven as android’s milestone for catching up to apple’s software (imo) if not surpassing it, and even tho other phones will have it soon it will still be nice to have it earlier than everyone else.  Not to mention, the screen on this thing is beast.

It really is a great phone, and as pissed off as I am from time to time at verizon, I’m going to continue holding on to my laggy beater phone (which is a charge, btw) until this beauty shows up.  Better late than never (yeah yeah, no official announcement so its not late).  The phone has tons to offer, and yes, super sweet hardware is going to become available soon, but until then I am pledging to scour the daily gamut of constantly updated nexus news.  Droid life, of course, being the most important of these.  SO until then, let’s be mad, bros.  And the day it comes out we can all get on here and simultaneously post, “You glad, bro?”

  • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

    I heard this week

  • Guest

So stupid!  I’m so sick of waiting for this!  First I waited for the Galaxy SII from when it came out in Europe in April, then every month since they push it “just one more month” then Verizon didn’t even get it.  Then I moved to the Nexus and it is now the end of the year and they will probably say, “oh just wait until January”.

    • Anonymous

What can we do?  If Rezound or Razr had ice cream sandwich on launch day this would not be an issue but Google/Samsung/Verizon has us dead to rights.  Iphone 4S is not an option and no other Android phones right now can beat the overall package.  I’m upset as well but what can we do?  Boycott?  Sue? Not buy the phone (LOL)?  They can tell us not until January and we would still be screwed.

      • Anonymous

have you tried the iphone 4s? Don’t eliminate anything out as a possiblity unless you try it. I have been trying the iphone 4s for the past 2 weeks because I got tired of waiting for this damn phone. I am simply blown away at how everything is so smooth and flawless with the iphone. Even on Verizon’s pathetic 3G speeds, browser is blazing fast.. youtube videos open in a snap. My only complaint about the iphone is the smaller screen size.
apple store has a 30 day return policy with no penalties. Try it.. it’s worth a shot.

    Dear Verizon,

I have over $300 waiting for that sexy little beast you now possess known as the Galaxy Nexus. I assure you, I am one of many. The original OG Droid has been a faithful friend for us over the last two years, but it’s time for it to retire with honor. The only worthy successor is the Galaxy Nexus that you selfishly keep locked away from my eager hands. Please extend to your loyal customers the respect we all deserve…

    Give us an effin’ date.

    Regards,

    An OG Droid owner

    • Sevook99

well said. I myself had the OG Droid, which unfortunately dropped on concrete and shattered the screen. this was 3 months ago and ive been waiting for the G-Nexus impatiently with every other Gnex enthusiast out there. We’ve waited this long everybody, hang in there for another couple of weeks.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ScottDaMan Scott Buehler

I have over $600 waiting for that sexy little beast, my wife and I BOTH want this damn phone and we’re tired of waiting.

    • Anonymous

nice try, but Verizon love their droids better than some defective device such as the nexus.

      • Anonymous

They do now, but once they release this beast, I think they may see that there has been a ground swell for this phone. That could should change thier minds and future plans/marketing.

        • Anonymous

I don’t think as many people are going to buy this as you think. Vanilla looks ugly to the general public and they don’t know what the benefits are. Also they can’t market it as vanilla because it will go against there other brands. Only some people that read tech sites are interested. I am not even interested and I am well versed in technology and android.

          • Dominick DeVito

Vanilla ICS looks better than any other Android UI ever made – custom included.

          • Anonymous

That’s just your opinion. Will the general public see that? I think it looks better than previous versions of Android but still not good. I think Sense looks the best actually…and there are miui, cm7, adw ex, and go ex themes that are way more creative than vanilla ICS.

          • Anonymous

I really think the general public will see it that way. Blur is not bad at all but I think the launcher is ugly on GingerBlur. I hate the apps button in the bottom right. Sense is pretty cool looking but HTC phones are so damn boring looking.

I promise girls will like the curved screen. It makes it look elegant and such.

If Google/Samsung pushes the phone (because we know Verizon won’t) it will be an awesome selling phone.

        • Anonymous

Let’s see how it goes, hopefully you can get it by December.

  • Anonymous

Well, no crap.  Headline might as well read “Report:  Samsung confirms Galaxy Nexus on Verizon to be released at some point”.

I want an exact date to be announced, dammit.  Then they will have an actual deadline so they’re actually busting ass to make the phone perfect for launch and we don’t have to worry (as much) about further delays X-0.

  • Anonymous

Verizon is not bound by any date no matter what they previously said.  While I’ve convinced myself this phone is going to release early Dec for sanity purposes, Verizon could push this as long as they want.

Motorola will prob release another flagship phone before Nexus releases.

  • Anonymous

Well, how many ‘potential’ release dates have come and gone so far? A couple months worth? Now it’s ‘next month’….again. Not holding any breath because the anticipation will build as we get nearer and then no news and then HEY, now it’s January 5th!……glad I got a Razr….

  • http://www.facebook.com/billyNOTnice Billy Gladfelter

Anyone else tired of these phones being delayed until they are no longer desirable?

    Dear Kellex,
Can you please not post any more Nexus stories tonight. I’m on east cost time and about to go to bed. Would love not to find two more stories in the morning that I missed while I was sleeping like the last few days.

    Thanks.
    Loyal DL reader.

  • Balticzar

Sniff, sniff, sob, sob. Took a gamble on the Nexus releasing this week by black Friday and got the Razr on the 12th thinking I would be in the 14 day window. Well, it’s a great phone but my rental period is almost over and it’s about to turn into a pumpkin. But before it does it’s going back tomorrow. Waiting for the Nexus. Damnit Verizon, Samsung and Google….do you guys enjoy toying with us? LOL. Oh well back to the TBolt. Glad I didn’t offload it on ebay yet.

    • bigrob60

Return it & go to a different store and pick it up again for the Jan deadline.

      • Balticzar

Hmmmmmm, that is a phenomenal idea. But wouldn’t store B know if I just returned it to store A?
Cause if not…..i’ll kick the tires on the Rezound.

        • Christopher Riner

I think this would work.  You need to find a cool verizon rep (look for one who burns the cheeba– shirt a little untucked, clueless look on their face, scruffy beard– maybe a french fry or two caught in there) and be like, “look, I got this phone, tried it out, didn’t like it so I got my upgrade back, and now I’m thinking I can’t hold off for the nexus so I want to use my upgrade now”.  Yeah, its playing the system, but they can’t really tell you no.  I tried out four phones in like a two week period earlier this year when I went from my cousins plan to my own plan.  The people at the store were jerks about it (especially this one nerd) bc I was obviously playing the system, but what could they do? I was playing by their rules.

I think it would work, but like I said, try and make sure you can find someone chill to ask them before you return it.  But hell, they can’t tell you not to use your upgrade that you just got back, even if it is for the same phone you just returned.

        • bigrob60

Maybe. What about getting the rezound then returning it for the Razr next week b/c you couldn’t stand the rezound. Now you’ll be locked in ’till Jan. But you might have to go to store “B” anyway so it would be like upgrading now. Not just switching phones.

  • ENic

While I am surely waiting for this phone, I must admit all the rumors have really taken my excitement. Having been looking at the Nexus for over a month now I would say the best bet is to sign up for the release notification(s) and stop reading online. Rumor and rumor, after rumor is just depressing.

  • Joejoe509

Ugh. I can’t believe it, but I broke down. I went to Verizon today and I bought myself a Rezound. I didn’t want to miss out on the double data deal. The Nexus should be out in time for me to return it. Cool phone but it’s no Nexus. I got some hands on time with the RAZR. I didn’t like it at all. It didn’t fit well in my hands like the Rezound did. I really don’t like Sense 3.5 though. Boring.

Anyway the Verizon rep said he hasn’t activated a single RAZR, but they were nearly sold out of Rezound.

    • Anonymous

Yea I checked out the Rezound and didn’t like the Sense AT all so I went Razr. It seemed faster and I liked the Motocast feature and seperate HDMI/USB ports. Biggest thing that bugs me is non removable batt. But so far I like my Razr and who knows…I may just keep the thing even when the Nexus comes out. It’s growing on me. But I will def check the Nex out and then make the decision on whether it stays or goes.

      • Booboolala2000

Got my Razr on the 15th. Really impressed. But it i s just a placeholder for the Nexus. May just keep it and give it to NY mother when the Nexus comes out. Gave my mother my tbolt. Have to make up for giving her that POST.

Kellex, thanks for the 3 months of slacker radio. I happy, bro.

  • Old School OG

Last night I wiped my OG, installed Sapphire Froyo 2.2 and manually installed all my apps with the latest updates.  It’s running beautifully again.  I was surprised to find that even the new Google Music app is working on Froyo now, allowing me to stream my cloud playlists that were uploaded from my home computer and pushing songs purchased from the new Google Music Market to my phone (although I still can’t directly access the new Google Music Market from my phone.)   Anyway, my point is that I’m starting to think I can hold on to my OG until next spring and the next generation of quad-core phones.   Maybe I don’t need a GNex all that badly.

    • Anonymous

For whatever reason, my OG did not like certain roms. It’s a very picky machine. It would only run on certain Froyo’s and certain GB’s. Think it has a machine allergy or something. It’s done been retired, though. Got a Razr and will check the Nex when it comes out….but no more OG action {cry}…rest in peace OG Droid….

  • Marcus Swope

The double your data deal on verizon had better still be in effect on Decemer 8.

    • Joejoe509

That was my fear as well.

  • Anonymous

10 bucks says it doesn’t come out this year… bullshit verizon, this phone is already outdates

    • Tim242

      You are full of shit.

  • TheVoiceOfReason

Okay seriously Droid-Life, I know you all are very much enjoying the gross amount of traffic you’ve undoubtedly seen this past quarter with all the of Nexus news, and now rumors. But for the love of God stop posting articles like this. It doesn’t inform your base of anything that hasn’t been rumored already, nor does it provide anything concrete to the chaos that you all have profited from with this device. Honestly, for all of our sake’s stop it (putting up these posts) until you get something actually solid.

Here’s an idea, GO OUT AND DO SOME ACTUAL REAL JOURNALISM (I’M LOOKING AT YOU JOSH) AND GET THE SCOOP ON THIS PHONE, HOW ABOUT THAT?

    • bigrob60

At least we know November is out of the question. And that’s all anybody has ever asked.

    • Anonymous

I’d rather have all the news / rumors that are out there, that’s kind of why I read this site. Not sure what you’re here for.

    • Anonymous

Real Journalism? Is it considered real journalism when I see other reputable sites using Droid-life as their source? Droid-Life is bringing us all the information they can. They aren’t a newspaper and don’t have to wait for the next morning to print.

Obviously Google does not feel threaten by iPhone, otherwise they would have launched this around the same time as the 4S. I think Everyone just assumed it would be launched with the RAZR, and Rezound, but they where wrong. Either get a different phone, or stop bitching, the phone hasnt been announced for release yet.

    • googlesux

why would google be threatened by the iphone 4s?? It’s like woody allen could threaten dwayne johnson. There is no competition.

  • Anonymous

    HELL yeah!

And guess what….I’ll be getting paid sometime in December…hopefully they’ll announce a release date of December 20, ’cause well, I will have been paid by then.

    • Christopher Riner

  • mchlkrieger

I don’t understand all the angst… Verizon never announced a release date, it simply said by the end of the year. All the other “leaks” come from Samsung and elsewhere. You fanboys seem to be confusing “lies” with “impatience.” If you need a phone NOW, the RAZR and Rezound are excellent devices. Besides, who knows what sort of bugs/issues the GNex will have? IMHO, people who are fap, fap, fapping over this phone are setting themselves up for disappointment.

    • Nathan Hosford

No they are not,and no they are not IMO

    • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

you’re right that a release date was never announced, and you’re wrong about setting selves up for disappointment. We’ll have updates, and everyone will be looking for release dates for their updates.

  • tjmonkey15

Ah screw it, just release it in January.

    • Nathan Hosford

That would not be smart tegra 3 phones are said to be released in Jan,Feb,Mar the only reason at this point i am getting the nexus is because its a nexus.Otherwise i would wait for a Tegra 3.If you dont care about it being a nexus and being blessed by google wait for a Tegra 3 phone.

      • Tim242

Tegra 3 IN A PHONE. Really? OVERKILL!

      • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

pointless since ICS is optimized for dual-core. every version of Android until the next nexus will be designed mainly for the Nexus.

Verizon continues to play games. If they are so good at testing devices then what happened when they released the Thunderbolt or better yet the Blackberry Storm. So Un-American, Google, a US company, releases a phone in the UK and the US gets it weeks or even months later. I am going to spend all my Black Friday money by then.

    • Nathan Hosford

I think Canada will get it on Bell before we do way to drop the ball google, verizon, samsung we got douched here in the states unless its bug free.If it has one bug i will be upset if not i will apologize.

    • Booboolala2000

Don’t forget that they tested and released the Charge. And they are sitting on the GB update for it too. Ill take a buggy Nexus over that POS Charge or TBolt any day. A it least the bugs will get fixed.i

I just wish they come out and say a solid date.  My upgrade has been available since June and I got 2 more in May on my family plan.  Sad to see this phone only last me for about 6 months before I upgrade to tegra 3 or what ever quad core HTC and Samsung releases.  Verizon is messing up my yearly upgrade cycle.

If this turns out to be true I may wait and see what this has in store since it most likely will be released before the nexus anyway.

    • Nathan Hosford

Does it have Tegra 3 ?

      • Anonymous

I doubt it unless they plan to hold the release for awhile. Why do you need quad core in a cell phone anyway? i would rather they work on dual core battery life first.

        • John

Some quad core chips will draw less power because they will be built using 28nm process vs 40nm.. And even for first gen 40nm quad core chips like tegra3, they are promising improved battery life.

          • http://twitter.com/JFMFT Josh Fowler

Also, some quad-core chips (like Kal El / Tegra 3), they have an additional low-power core. Nvidia’s Tegra 3′s 5th low-power core can stream 1080p video for something like 12+ hours… impressive imo.

Doesn’t matter to Verizon if the Galaxy Nexus is delayed. People are still gonna get locked into contracts with the G-Nex before the next wave of phones is released.  It’s no coincidence that Verizon’s extended holiday return period ends on January 9th. CES 2012 starts on the 10th.
