Here is the Official DROID Bionic Teaser, This Campaign Clearly has a Massive Budget

There has been talk over the last day of a DROID Bionic teaser floating around at Verizon corporate, which also popped up as a blurry cam edit a few places on the internet.  Good news for Droid Life readers as usual, we have the official version right here sent to us by a close friend.  It’s high quality, includes a battle of woman vs. machine, and gave us chills.

This campaign is going to massive – we cannot wait to see more.  Two weeks from tomorrow, and will see if this device can truly “Rule all machines.”  A lot of hype to live up to after all of these months, hopefully the marketing can give it a lift.

  • Tfx2002

That is one ugly bitch.  where the hell are her sideburns?!

  • Xeridian

lol This girl looks nothing like Natalie Portman, man some of you are blind. If anything she looks like or could be Monica Belucci… Who cares about the phone tbh. lol

  • Paintedsamurai

Wow a lot of naysayers and some what a bit trollish.
I thought the commerical was interesting mainly because it appealed to the scifi fan in me which in a way is what Verizon in my opinion is trying to do with the droid in the first place appeal to those individuals who refuse to fall to the apple zombies and give them an alternative to the I-Phone. The soundtrack for it was cool as well a good haunting melody.

Hell if i could afford it i snag one that or a HTC Thunderbold

  • JohnPA2006

Natalina Jolie Portman, Ninja, uber hottie.
Yep, I want the Bionic, I wanted it before but I totally want it now.

    I love these commercials.

  • I wish to express my appreciation for your generosity giving support to men who must have guidance on in this topic. Your real commitment to getting the solution all-around had been certainly beneficial and has frequently empowered many people much like me to attain their targets. Your interesting help means a whole lot to me and still more to my office workers. Best wishes; from all of us.

  • Thanks for all of the hard work on this web page. Betty enjoys engaging in investigation and it is obvious why. All of us know all relating to the compelling means you convey very important techniques on this web blog and in addition invigorate participation from others on that topic so my girl is in fact starting to learn a whole lot. Have fun with the rest of the year. Your doing a terrific job.

i love how everyone complains about not seeing the phone itself and not understand that this is suppose to be a teaser. its suppose to stir ur interest and wonder how it looks like. i’m pretty sure there will be a follow up full commercial around release.

  • Anonymous

This commerical was stupid, do a droid sound show a nice glass house in LA. Then show a guy sitting in a black leather lounge chair with a bionic, show him using a weather app predicting rain, then show thunder storm clouds forming. Next show him pressing the start engine botton on the Astin Martin app, the show a Astin Martin starting up and its head lights on. Finally show him pressing a power button on the tv remote app and a tv turning on, then an elicit voice says “with the bionic, rule all machines”. Thats a commerical

  • BountyHunter

What’s not to like about that commercial? A super hot chick in leather kicking butt. If you don’t like that then you haven’t reached puberty yet, or you’re just not into girls..

  • Rizzidy

That commercial didn’t look that expensive at all to me.  The whole thing could have been done on a single sound stage, they only had to pay one actor, there was only one costume, barely any set design, and the rest was cheap-looking cgi.

  • Telephoneteck

She will be mine. Oh , yes – she will be mine.

  • Asdjflkfjd

    Apple could probably sue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8

  • Anonymous

Did anyone else mention that the girl looks like Monica Bellucci? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monica_Bellucci I hope she comes with the phone when I buy it… would be the best schwag EVER!!!

  • Urugami

Has this video been checked for hidden messages or URLs?

  • peggy

If you noticed, ad was produced by lucas arts.  hum,,,,,  wonder if it’ll have nav with darth vader voices…..

  • crazyamerican

I’m left believing that the Droid Bionic will be pink.

  • Dragonking37

Come on! They spend all this money on a commercial for a phone they dont’ even show? Motorola, what have you been smoking? And what about this $299 price with a 2 year agreement? You make so many people wait months for something promised so long ago and then stick it to them where it will hurt even more? Good Luck selling this thing!

  • Ranlil

“This campaign has a massive budget”  At $300 a pop… no problem.

  • mike

Uh… was it just me or does that chick look exactly like Natalie Portman?

  • Rob Meyer

even in higher quality this commercial sucks.. Quick!! dump it and rename the next commercial to what this one was. Just like the phone its attached to.

  • Anonymous

So we’re just going to go and call a teaser that looks like there’s more commercial to add on at the end (Probably a 45 – 60 second spot) “crappy” because it didn’t show the specs. It’s called a teaser for a reason.

    But that’s just my opinion…obviously.

  • steve west

Unless i see some hardcore evidence that the Prime is in the works and is indeed coming to verizon then i will have to get this phone, throw some launcher pro at it and then be happy that i get to upgrade to the nexus 5 sooner than the rest of you guys that will still be waiting

    • Anonymous

My plan exactly.  But I prefer GoLauncher.  New Blur does not look bad but i still prefer the “look” of stock android and GoLauncher is as close as  you can get to it.  For 12 years now I have only used Motorola phones and never been disappointed.  However If i ever had to get something besides moto i would go with samsung or Nexus (made by samsung).

  • Anonymous

    That really sucked

  • Heresatought

Let’s see…  Anybody remember the Bionic Woman… starting Lindsay Wagner?  Droid Bionic… Bionic Woman…  hence commercial.. Duh!

  • Motofail

I for one, am not looking forward to a massive DROID Bionic campaign shoving “RULE ALL MACHINES!” down my throat. What the hell does that even mean!? Do I get to play with military drones? How about divert a robotic submersible to a nude beach in Spain to use as my own private voyeur cam? Will I wake up the next day to find Asimo kneeling at my bed? Have an army of Pleo’s to do my bidding?!

It is a PHONE and one that is going to be old news in a matter of weeks. Hell, if Samsung drops the bombshell news we are all hoping on 8/29 I’d go as far as to say it’ll be old news come 8/29!

I’m so sick of this phone and it isn’t even out yet.

    • Anonymous

You obviously do not understand marketing and how the Droid brand markets itself.

      • Motofail

        I do understand marketing.

        This is bad marketing.

        See?

The DROID brand has thus far resorted to championing its features in relation to existing devices, using the persona of a self-aware entity to establish it’s dominance. This often includes humor, tongue-in-cheek references to pop culture, friendly (or not so friendly) jabs as competing tech giants and bio-mechanical assimilation of its owner. To drive the point home the phrase “DROID DOES” often accompanies any advertising associated with the DROID brand.

Until today, I’ve never seen the DROID brand market itself using a hot chick in a skin tight suit, swords, kamikaze robots, creepy children songs, or stupid battle cries like “Rule all machines.” If you have, I respectfully ask that you link this content so I can be informed as yourself “…how the DROID brand markets itself.”

  • Motofail

To anyone saying “The original DROID commercial didn’t show much either” Let me break it down for you.

The original DROID commercial begins with next-gen stealth fighters streaking across the sky. Nostalgic thoughts for “TOP GUN” surface in every mans mind. Rocking soundtrack accompanies the jet noise and alien sounding electronic signatures punctuate for added punch. Testosterone begins to build and the heart beats faster as mysterious pods are released into the void. “What is THAT?” one wonders, as they streak across the sky and middle America looks on. Even throw in some diversity to make it known everyone is invited. The pods crash to earth and the onlookers cautiously approach, mesmerized by the sleek, sexy alien-esque device buried in the ground before them. The pod opens and a PHONE is shown as the signature “DROIIIIID” suddenly bursts forth for the first time.

That my friend, is one helluva commercial.

Eyes. Creepy kid singing some kind of freaky song (trying to pull a neo-Kill Bill here?) Girl plays with sword. Girl runs down weird looking hallway with a sword and attacks (is attacked? I don’t know) by random robot looking thing (I think it was a robot, cuts were too quick to fully gather that intel) “Rule all Machines” splays out and commercial ends with creepy kid still singing as “DROID Bionic” splash screen sends us on our way.

That my friend, is a one helluva fail.

    • Kierra

      LMAO

  • the you don’t have an iphone commericals are genius. do you know the number of times i’ve heard people say their touchscreen phone “was like an iphone”? the commercial plays off that fact and shows what the phone has that other phones don’t. you are an apple hater so you hate the phone but for the casual consumer that ad campaign is genius.

  • RW-1

One not really a word has come to mind here:   Meh.

  • Anonymous

Not even a phone in there…

  • Hunter

I just saw it at the movies and it hade a QR code in it i saw it for a split second. A new contest is coming!

  • Teoramos79

Wow, these commercial are starting to look more and more like the bud and miller lite commercials, they talk and show everything under the sun, but the actual product or how good the user experience is, wow, that’s y droid sucks

  • Anonymous

Lame! Droid used to be “fast, like a race horse strapped to a scud missile.” Apparently Droid is now some crazy chick in an industrial version of Tron. The coolest things about the previous Droid commercials was the lack of humans. (Or human looking robots, before someone jumps my poo.) Now it os a lame and dirty version of Tron.

  • Where is the “Droiddddddd” at the end of the commercial? The teaser felt like a fail without it

  • Themrjustinjones

Why is there a picture of Casey Anthony in the photo. Bionic boycott. Already old.

  • Anonymous

Droid-Life, I know you guys are excited, and I totally understand, honestly.  However, you have now talked up this phone so much that it can’t possibly live up to the hype, no matter how good it is.  Congratulations on ruining the experience for everyone.

  • Larry Jr. Lima

As with all advertising campaigns, it’s not stupid if it gets you talking.

  • Is it just me or did that REALLY look like Natalie Portman?!

  • J Dub

No where near as cool as the Droid X space team video.

  • Anonymous

Damnit, my OG droid is totally fried….looks like I’m getting this bad boy instead of waiting for the Bionic

    • droidlvr

      which one are you getting?

  • droidlvr

oh man i can’t wait to get the bionic

  • Anonymous

they almost got the meme slogan right:  RULE ALL THE THINGS!

    • Pennywise

ALL YOUR MACHINES ARE BELONG TO BIONIC

  • Anonymous

Some people will never be happy with anything…Bionic looks pretty darn sharp to me.  You can spend your life waiting for the NEXT big thing…or GO GET IT…PEACE!

  • Anonymous

Wait, What?  Why is everyone complaining about a teaser?  Its like your all setting yourself up to be disappointed.  Take if for what it’s worth, a teaser and try to use your imagination about what its trying to say!!!  After I heard this phone wasn’t going to have a 4.5″ screen or bigger, I knew I was not trading my Thunderbolt for it but now I hope it kicks ass just to shut up all the negative people!!!

  • Chad

How about a commercial that shows all of the un-removable bloatware and how it along with Blur will make this beast of a device lag and crawl like it’s a two year old device?? Just like it does to my Droid 3!!

  • Anonymous

    WORST DROID COMMERCIAL EVER!

  • If I recall from the leaked roadmap, the DROID Bionic was upgraded to a Tier 1 level launch, whatever that meant is starting to make more sense now.

But when I see a commercial, I want to know what I am buying or what they want me to.  Ads like this nowadays just shows how dumb they think the average consumer is just because of them adding a hot woman in tightly clad attire to draw out the college crowd.  And then use them as “word of mouth” advertising maybe?

Ads like these make me not to want to buy the product because it proves what I stated above.

  • Rjbx

If you don’t have an Iphone, well you’re a crappy person…

  • BionicLOSS

    gs2 got this beat

    • Pennywise

…it’s lighter than the Bionic because it doesn’t have an LTE radio in it?

    • Anonymous

      NX Prime’s 1.5ghz DC got gs2 beat

  • Jonnysmythew

Love this teaser spot. Cant wait to go out and buy the bionic when it comes out.

  • Rjbx

If you don’t have an Iphone, well you’re not cool…

    RULE ALL THE MACHINES!!

  • Turner

It’s a teaser. All teasers seem to be any more is, “oh, hey. The Bionic must be getting close. Sweet! FInally!” and that’s about it. We already know pretty much everything about this phone already, don’t we?

  • JT

Question for Droid Life:  Why do you hope the marketing will give it a lift?  Why do you care if if flies or flops?

    • Pennywise

Because the loud and hateful (posters) here are butt-hurt over their wild imaginations (read: expectations) not materializing, many thanks to the hypebeastin, and are ruining this site with all the QQing and unintelligent non-conversation.

Put another way, DL is saying HOPEFULLY, big-budget marketing and the device getting close to launch will mommy-kiss all of the instant-gratification-seeking, butt-hurt posters who as-of-late detract more than contribute to this community.

      AMIRIGHT?!

  • Montauq

Guess a lot of people need to go to a summer movie and watch the trailers at the beginning and be reminded what a teaser is and how it differs from the full presentation.

  • ACE

I must say, no wonder crowds of people come in asking for the I-Phone… With marketing like that I can completely understand why most people have no idea about the far superior android operating system…  How many people must sit around a table and say YEAH that’s a great ad!!! Morons…..

  • Lame sauce. {{-_-}}

  • Trooper

    Weak.  That is all.

  • Anonymous

Its not as bad as those Palm ads from a year or so ago. Those were just creepy

  • Anonymous

Looks like something from the Terminator….  Yet another hofty!

  • Anonymous

    Ad of the year:

    “There’s an app for that”

Zoom into new Android device while playing typical Apple background music

Show app of the Android robot taking a squirt on an Apple while the worm inside (we’ll let you guess who that is) quickly gets out and inches away from it.

End with “For those about to rock” with the cannon pointed at an i*hone as the cannon ball blows it into smithereens.  “We salute you!”  Show the green robot smiling behind the cannon.

  • Sirx

At least the promo for the original Droid showed a phone at the end.  If your advert doesn’t at least tell you what it’s supposed to be advertising, then it has failed.  I had no idea whether the ad for this one wanted me to go buy a sword, some rampaging killbots, or a personal choir to follow me around and sing creepy songs at me O_O

  • Cmorty72

What the hell does some hot chick wielding a katana and de-crapitating a robot reject from the old school movie Saturn 3, have to do with a Motorola smart phone?

    • Pennywise

      Stay tuned…

  • People are crybabies…. its a teaser video who cares but like my dad always says Opinions are like assholes. Everybody’s got one and everyone thinks everyone else’s stinks.”

    • Tonydspencer

And the higher it is the crappier!

  • Anonymous

This is a ridiculous marketing campaign.  What the hell does fighting robots have to do with owning a smart phone?  You know, I hate apple as much as the next guy on this site, but at least their marketing campaigns are simple and to the point.  “Here’s our product and what you can do with it.”

Am I going to “rule the machines” with a smartphone? Really?  What ridiculous tripe.

  • BroRob

    meh

  • OG Droid

Instead of this; they should have a robot(droid) fighting against trolls hehe.

  • Stelv81

So they are only trying to reach a certain market apparently with this commercial? Guys in the 18-45 bracket that like sci-fi sci-fi genre things. This marketing is very limited even though it is kind of cool.

  • Brnsktingdieskting19

are you fking kidding me….that was so retarded

  • Interesting, the QR code isn’t in this version of the video. I was hoping to scan it.

  • Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket.. a little of this marketing money should have gone to the Droid 3. It was barely mentioned and still managed to sell out everywhere, even today. Maybe that’s what they counted on, though.

  • Mr.Joe

What a beautiful commercial that captures the heart of the Droid brand!  Droid is only for people who kick ass.  Not people who have to belong.

  • Liv4Freedom

That commercial/promo is absolutely terrible. Besides the fact the device is getting overly hyped being nothing earth shatter in short order anyways with word of other deices coming not far behind the Bionic. I also think they are going to be sadly mistaken if they think this device is going to be a huge seller as it won’t be at the end of the day.

  • wow if Natalie Portman ever needed a body double here she is. Also people chill out its just  a TEASER clip.

  • Anonymous

Ha yeah right this has been their source of hits for months now and will be the same way even after it launches with articles about the bootloader, the screen and the rest just to get more hits.

  • Anonymous

    Kinda random…lol

  • It’s a long way to September 9th. Lets hope there’s some other news that will occupy these pages in the next couple of weeks… This is getting disgusting!

    • Pennywise

Oh did Verizon (or Motorola) announce September 9th? (they didn’t, and you shouldn’t expect the phone then either)

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e52TSXwj774 Anyone else remember this?? “Open Development” Ahhhh….the good ol days.  Now we live in the dark times.  Locked bootloaders.  Locked bloatware.  Locked bookmarks.  Locked locked locked.  What’s next from Verizon and Moto?  How bout if everytime we turn the screen on we have to watch a commercial before doing anything else?  That could make some money right?  Maybe they could program it to where you didn’t even have to wake it up.  Maybe they could get it to wake itself up and play the commercial, like every 15 minutes.  That ought to make some more money right?  Maybe they could force and LOCK us into having advertisement banners in our wallpaper.  That would make some money right?  Maybe they could have livewallpapers that changed advertisements every 5 seconds.  More money right? Oooohhhh I know.  Locked widgets!!!  You could have a widget locked onto the homescreen that plays rotating advertisements, eats up tons of RAM, and wears out the battery.  More money right??? This commerial really hooked me into buying my first smartphone.  Apparently it was a mirage.  Open development is now a farce as far as Verizon and Moto is concerned.  Nexus devices for me from here on out…

    • Anonymous

i agree completely. these kids (at least thats what most of the childish comments portray) remind me of the lemmings following the pied piper. i love my droid but locked bootloader means i take my busines elsewhere. i dont enjoy being ripped off by a multi-billion $ corporation…

  • Firelight

Ok – I’m seeing an ad for the Droid Katana!

Where’s the Bionic? Shouldn’t the Bionic Woman (which she should have been) not need a utensil to help her & should she be fighting – another Android?Symbolisms all wrong here!

  • Anonymous

What’s the point of even giving us more details at this point. It’s the same user interface as the Droid 3. Maybe a little faster? Obviously the connection speed will be faster. Other than 4G LTE and a performance boost, it’s not all that different from any other phone that’s out right now.

  • Jorshasaur

I sent the teaser to one of my friends just now and she thought it might be a teaser for a Lego Bionic movie.  And I can’t fault her for thinking that.

    • Pennywise

Despite it saying Verizon Wireless at the end?

  • Jon

Motorola sure needs the sales. I might have gotten it 4 months ago, but now I’ll probably wait for the HD with the better screen. Or the new Sammy…

  • AdamPS

I’ve never pre-ordered/bought a new phone on day one before. I’ll probably end up getting a Bionic at Best Buy…can I pre-order there, or can you only do pre-orders at VZW stores?

  • Kierra

ATTN: If your regularly read this blog then you are not, I repeat , ARE NOT the average(typical) phone consumer. Zounds

    • Lakerzz

      Agreed

  • Eric

It just shows Moto didn’t learn the 1st time with the crappy Xoom promos. Can’t wait for Google to get in there and make some serious changes.

    • Dude it’s more that average people arent jumping out of their seats to get a tablet.  I consider myself a techy and still can’t bring myself to buy one.  Droid X is proof in itself with its massive sales.  The avid droiders new the bootloader was encrypted yet look how well it did.  We are a tiny portion of who actually buys these phones.

  • Droidrage729

lol that had nothing to do with smartphones unless there trying to get the point across that if you buy the bionic you can kick ass with a sword????? there over exposing the bionic bad. we get a daily “leak” with the same specs. come on too little too late is right.

  • Esmod_joni_fb

Its a teaser people… keep it in mind, it suppose to tease not flooding people with information… if you want information why dont you read newspaper theres plenty for everyone… haters

    • Newspapers are full of Opinions not information.

    • Guest

A teaser for what? If I had no idea what Droid or Bionic was I would think this would be a teaser for swords? A movie? The last thing I would think would be a phone. It teasing nothing of the sort.

      • Pennywise

Have you heard of Verizon? Cause the teaser says Verizon wireless at the end. Have you heard of Verizon selling swords?  Have you heard of a girl? They are also good teasers…

It’s a teaser, meaning it starts, and you watch to find out what it’s for but all they give you a couple things to chew on.  The next time you see the add you likely see an expanded version of it, giving you more to chew on.

“What’s this BIONIC that Verizon is talking about???” is what such a teaser is thought to make you wonder.

    • Guest

Is the audio in the background Kellex or Tim singing in the shower?

  • That’s the dumbest promo I’ve ever seen. What the junk was the point of it?

  • What demographic were they shooting for? A 30 something chick slaying robots? Yeah, sign me up.

  • Anonymous

So you are trying to say they spent all their money on marketing budget instead of the R&D for Tegra 2 / LTE?  That would explain the delay…

  • Wadeharada

Isn’t that Natalie Portman? Sure looks like it.

    • Anonymous

I dont’ think so, or at least hope not for her sake.

    • Tim

Im not sure if its her or not. Some parts of the video dont look like her. But the 18-19 second mark sure looks like her.

  • DanSke

This is straight up retarded, it has nothing do do with a phone — at all. The reason the general public are so disconnected from what android is because of this garbage. Why don’t they try to show what the phone does, has, or can do.

  • Blood

This commercial is for the Bionic? If so, the girl is supposed to be pale, shackled in chains, with terrible eye sight, lots of acne, and really fat.

  • Newskool

You guys forget how stupid the general public is, numbers mean nothing to them. Hot chicks with swords, now that sells.

    • Mctypething

Sells what? A phone? Or swords?

So that’s what the $299 pricetag is paying for…

  • natalie portman?

    • James_Ever

I almost said Mila Jovovich. That music, horrible, the effects great. But its 8/24/11 why no commercials on air yet? When Verizon first launched 4g LTE they campaigned for months before it was available anywhere. So what’s with them not posting this now, if they wait the week of launch, then they’re gonna lose a lot of business. Still will sell well though.

    • Anonymous

i think so.  definitely looks like her at :19 — if so, it had to be shot before she went preggers.

thrilling teasers never make me purchase a phone, including this one.

  • Patrick Flanigan

Its because of marketing like this the Xoom didn’t do as well as it could have, they marketed it with virtually no information in the ads (remember the spaceship one?) and no one knew what it could do.  One reason *pple and the i*hone has done so well is because their ads show what the phone is capable of and where it can be useful in consumers daily lives.  This looked like a great ad for a movie but what does it say about the phone and its capabilities?  Nothing.
Still, its definitely a sweet ad, and the campaign looks pretty epic, but without information on the phones capabilities, all it will do is confuse potential customers..

    • Anonymous

Really? The ad campaign leading up to the DROID launch was an alien invasion. That didn’t tell you a thing about the phone, but people still bought it.

      • Illinipoke98

True, but they also had the Droid Does comercials that spelled out what it could do.

        • Anonymous

But that’s after the phone launched already. Apples to apples, this equals the stealth fighter commercial for the D1.

      • Anonymous

the OG Droid had the special benefit of being the first real Android phone on a popular network.  the Press filled in the gaps of missing information; otherwise, everyone and our brothers would have thought Droid was a movie.  hehe

    • You are absolutely right, I hate the iPhone commercials but they do communicate exactly why people should buy the phone.  The DROID campaign feels like a cheap attempt to distract people away from the devices, when they really don’t have to.

  • The Droid Bionic by Motorola! We badly botched the release of this phone, but thanks to our cozy relationship with Verizon we’re were able to get them the delay the release of the phone you really want: the Samsung Galaxy S II.

  • Murphy

I’m confused…if you have to make an entire post defending your position on the Bionic to the people who follow this blog…isn’t this thing D.O.A.?? I remember the hype-beasting for the Thunderbolt…and we all know how that turned out.

I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen. I wish they would have done it sooner. They’ve been leading up to this kind of thing for a while now, though. BTW, how is this any cheesier than an alien invasion, having your eye turned into a robot’s, getting robot hands to type email, or having a group of people in clean suits find a phone in a crater?

  • Jim Holleran

Was that Monica Bellucci in the 30 second spot?

  • Anonymous

i think all vzw android commercials are horrific.  This one is NO exception.  Google! Moto! Samsung! Somebody do a real marketing campaign for the OS and PHONES.

    • DanSke

I agree. The only manufacture that has somewhat of a good marketing campaign is HTC. At least in their commercials they express how the customer can benefit from their products, while also showing what is new and exciting about it.

  • Eric Williams

People, stop ripping the ad a new one. This is exactly what the title of the article calls it. A Teaser spot. It’s not a full blown spot to show specs or design. We all have known about this phone since January but the typical consumer has now clue of the Bionic. This spot is to put three thoughts into the viewers mind. First is a battle. Battles can imply that someone/something is going to be better and thus win.Second is Bionic. The viewer isn’t going to know anything about a “Bionic” but that name is going to stick in their mind. Thirdly is Verizon. Verizon is using the typicality Droid branding style and color (red) to connect that there is a Verizon device that is going to compete with the other devices out there and based on the head falling to the ground it’s saying this “Bionic” will win. Within days to a week of this ad starting nationally you’ll see the full device specification ads start.

    • Mctypething

The viewer that you say isn’t going to know anything about the Bionic will still know nothing about it after watching that pile of garbage. That looks like an ad for a B sci-fi movie. How anyone thinks that promo will make anyone think of a phone, or generate interest in a phone, is beyond me.

      • Pennywise

        Then… it’s beyond you /shrugs

If the TEASER makes people who watch it wonder what “Bionic” VERIZON is talking about, then it’s successful.

    • LionStone

This spot put two thoughts in my head…first, we are all waiting, and waiting… second, if it doesn’t come soon, heads are gonna roll! LOL 🙂

  • Twofourturbo

Lame… HTC Should release the second part of the video where the clouds roll in and they all get struck by lighting from the HTC Thunderbolt.. HAHAHAHA

  • Anonymous

Wow, you guys weren’t kidding, this is awful!

  • Andrew Davis

Apple has the best ads in the biz. Simple, show features of phone (imagine that!), and show real world uses.  I wish Android phones – Droid Brand in particular – followed suit.  I mean, this is good for fanboys/girls, but for the general public, it’s meaningless.

(I had the G1 on day 1 and have had the OG Droid since day one, btw)

    • jeffrey morin

agreed. best commercials were for the original droid where they showed actual features of the phone. everything since has been cheesy hype.

      • EC8CH

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh it’s Magic!

        best commercial ever.

        • Larry Jr. Lima

I duno why i lol’d at your oh oh oh oh. lol

    • LionStone

I agree although apple’s ads seem to be a bit pretentious, but hTc also has done pretty good about showing features and real world usage.

      • FactJack

a bit pretentious??? How about VERY???

        • Anonymous

          OK! VERY! 🙂

    • Thracks

This is a teaser. Teasers are meant to excite, not educate. It’s absolutely impossible to know how this campaign will be executed–if it’ll meet your goals–from a simple teaser.

      • The teaser was horrible. Had nothing to do with a high tech smartphone. A 30 year old space chick killing a robot? Doesn’t translate at all.

        • Anonymous

And it has YOU talking about it here.  Mission accomplished.

        • FactJack

looked more like a 24 year old space chick if you look more closely….

    • Anonymous

Well the droid does commercials that came out to combat those iphone ads were pretty good.

      • Anonymous

        Love these commercials.

You people have absolutely no clue about advertising although you all think you are so smart.  You know NOTHING!

Motorola pays millions and millions on advertising and have employees that know a shi+ load more about advertising than you will ever know.

Stop with the Motorola hating.  It’s the best phone maker in the business and the Bionic will be an awesome awesome phone.

        Cannot wait to get it!

        • How is Jones Town this time of year?

          • EC8CH

I hear the Kool-Aid is to die for.

        • Anonymous

Wtf are you talking about I never said I did? I said how good the droid does commercials were whats that have anything to do with how much anyone knows about advertising? Nowhere did I say anything about moto so hop off your high horse and don’t put words in my mouth. k bye.

          • Anonymous

            chris,

Are you serious?   There are tons of idiots on here complaining about the teaser!  Why do you think I am talking you?

          • Anonymous

Well you replied to my comment so I was just checking. I agree with you that these companies spend lots of money on ads and they must know something since they seem to work and people want the droid brand.

          • Anonymous

Ohhh, sorry about that.  1st time posting.  Didn’t mean to reply to your individual comment!

          • Anonymous

No problem just wanted to make sure it wasn’t directed at me. No worries

          • Yay!  Did we just become best friends???

          • YUP!

    • Anonymous

Well the droid does commercials that came out to combat those iphone ads were pretty good.

    • This guy wins the award for rational android fan of the day. It is perfectly okay to like Android but also appreciate the effectiveness of Apple’s marketing. A tip of the hat to you sir.

      • EC8CH

Apple’s marketing is also effective at epic smugness.

Yep, if I you don’t have an i*hone…

And some wonder why there is such disdain for *pple products.

I also think the Mac vs PC ads, while funny at first, were carried too far.  Microsoft’s “I’m a PC” turned *pple’s smugness around with a positive and entertaining rebuttal.

        • Larry Jr. Lima

I agree. I thought the I’m a PC campaign was very well done.

        • there is no disdain for apple products. this is only something that either android or pc lovers think. the casual consumer thinks Apple makes amazing products that are expensive. there is no disdain.

          • Anonymous

You mean the sheep like iMasses.

          • EC8CH

“there is no disdain for apple products. this is only something that either android or pc lovers think.”

screw Tim Cook,  with a self righteous smugness like that you are more qualified to replace J*bs.

          • That’s an interesting reality distortion field you live within 🙂

“There is no disdain for apple products”  ROFL.

    • FactJack

My first droid phone was the droid X, which I didn’t even see one commercial or ad on when I chose to get it. I got it because it had the FEATURES and SPECS I wanted at a price I was willing to pay…. keyword there…. FEATURES

  • Anonymous

They should have had her use those blades to slice the hell out of an apple.

  • Justin

when does the movie come out?oh, that was an ad for a phone!

  • Droid Bionic budget including all marketing-$20 million. Gross revenue generated 6 months later $1.2 million. Loser.

  • I guess I’m old school, I’d prefer a marketing campaign that told me something about the phone.

    • babadush

      i agree entirely

    • Ssjtsuwamono

It’s a teaser trailer, it isn’t supposed to tell you anything.

      • Teaser with 0 info on the item? Lame.

      • Jorshasaur

        And they succeeded.

    • But that’s the problem with the world. Most consumers are unintelligent. Make an action movie with this phone and a hot chick and they will buy it with no specs talked about. You can market a fresh turd the right way and sell a million of them.

      • Anonymous

That’s why the iphone sells so well lol.

        • FactJack

I know people who go out and buy every iPhone iteration there is on the release date… poor poor fools….

At least with Android phones you get a choice….

as for the Droid Bionic and all those decrying the ‘oh it is 6 months late’ bs… it really is not the same phone unveiled at CES back in January…

But this ‘teaser’ trailer for the phone… is rubbish. When are we going to actually see them show images of the phone itself???

          • Anonymous

Exactly.  I wanted the one shown at CES and I wanted it in April as was promised.  Questions?

          • Anonymous

Well one it was never promised for april

          • Anonymous

That’s because they need to buy the new version just for the minimal upgrade that has bebeen in android for awhile.

    • Thracks

This is a teaser. Teasers aren’t supposed to tell you about the phone. They’re supposed to get you excited.

      • Eric

Well it failed at that as well.

    • Guess you didn’t prefer the original Droid either (thanks Marvin Allsup for the link):

  • babadush

Only good thing about that video was the girl.

  • The Joker

the whole point of advertising is to create something that people will remember as the great Don Draper would say. Even if you hate it, you remember it. And thus the commercial has done its job.

    • “Even if you hate it, you remember it”       like your wifes pussy

  • Q

lol @ everyone saying this is corny.  Of course it’s corn!.. It’s a DROID commercial.  They’re all like this lol..
    CANT WAIT..

EDIT: It was missing the “DROID” voice at the end though..

They should’ve enlisted Anglie Jolie 😛

  • Adam

I think I just messed up your roommates robe.

  • Anonymous

So much for having fun with titles.  The serious brigade showed up today full of hate.  Bleh.

    • OG Droid

Kellex no matter how hard you try, your always going to have a bunch of fanboys that nothing is ever good enough. Somehow recently they have found your site to spread their hate

      • babadush

they are all clearly apple sympathizers

      • Anonymous

I say fight fire with fire and troll their asses just as much, that’s my motto.

    • Anonymous

don’t get your feelings hurt.  haters of the commercial (that would be me as well) are coming through because you seem to love it.  that’s what happens when you post opinions…you get them back.  just saying.

    • Anonymous

I think the info on the phone at this point is like Monte Python The Meaning of Life when the waiter tries to give the guy one more piece of chocolate.  Most people I would guess aren’t really hating, they are just worn down and ready to blow.

  • Masterofkungfu

Decapitating machine robots? Count me in!

    • Pennywise

Of course the Master of Kung Fu is gettin’ down on this! /cheers

  • corny

  • Who comes up with this crap?

  • im so confused right now

  • SGII promo was better… not being a hater or anything… I still would love to get this as I’m due for a new phone … but at least tease me more… if I didn’t know what that was for I would go “WTF is that for?”

  • Legoturte92

DO WANT! Even though it seemed a tad weird.

  • ramana

Are you paid to peddle the droid bionic or something?
Cause most of the posts about the droid bionic have been rather lame. Sorry kellex.. But thats just telling it like I see it.

wait, what…this promo is for a phone?  i understand geeks (myself included) like sci-fi…but this is lame.

and hot females…but not hot females who are wielding swords and decapitating robots, because they confuse me.  especially when they’re in a cell phone commercial.  wait, what was i talking about

          • Motofail

BIG difference between that amazing bit of marketing and this “Geeksquad Wetdream”

I’m still getting the Bionic, idk about you guys

  • Anonymous

The video is kinda dumb but at least she is hot.

  • waiting for Droid Landing to start something on this

    • Patrick Flanigan

Agreed, but last time (with the Charge) they didn’t start their campaign until a week or so before it was released, so we probably have another week to wait for that…

  • I wish Verizon would dump this marketing machine. Quit blocking other phones for this dumb droid line. It’s not necessary anymore.

  • Rp780

    WTF was that?

  • Anonymous

    lalz

  • Ooooh ninja girls! that should get the estrogen flowing for Moto!

  • Anonymous

“This campaign is going to massive”.

    Bionic has taken over Kellex.

    • Keep in mind this is the same guy who said Verizon/Moto would sell millions of Xooms, MILLIONS!!!

      • Anonymous

who Kellex? Ha yeah they are going to sell millions at $800 a pop yeah right lol

        • FactJack

Maybe he was talking about the 18 month point…. lol

  • Ntbohl

uh.. my interest in this phone just went from 2 back to it’s original level of 9.8 on a scale of 10… can’t wait to see more!

  • Ooh. This looks like it’s going to be a great campaign. I’m still probably waiting for the Nexus though.

  • Mctypething

That might be the stupidest promo for a phone I have ever seen. Sorry Kellex, you’ve turned into an apologist for all things Droid Bionic….

    • All the Droid ad’s have been kind of cheesey, but fun.

    • Anonymous

      It’s a hot chick kicking some Cylon-looking droid’s ass.

What would you rather have?  The, “if you don’t have an iPhone” commercial?

      • EC8CH

        at the 0:18 mark:

I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 657 which only cost me $ 62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://to.ly/b0tD

        • Pennywise

Yes exactly – Portman is so gorgeous and this woman here… well, heh : )

      • Mctypething

Hmmm, maybe something about the phone? Novel concept, I know.

        • Anonymous

It’s a teaser.  I’m sure the full ad will have specs, features, etc.  This is just to get people interested.

          I liked it…

          • Anonymous

That is a hard concept for people to grasp. They want everything and they want it now for free. That is just how people are now a days.

If she comes with the phone I will buy one… Ahh… now I get why the called it the bionic!

    • Anonymous

I agree. I have really loved all the DROID commercials but this looks entirely lame. Sorry.

    • Exactly. Sorry but space women only appeal to males age 15-23 who have never touched an actual woman. I bet this really drives my mom to run out and get this phone. Haha, just copy Apple’s marketing its easier than coming up with original ideas.

      • When the DROID commercials first started it was DROID DOES, now if you haven’t all noticed, they have kinda slipped that under the rug so to speak.  I mean, they do have the iPhone now.  But it just shows again who they are targeting, and also proves that they aren’t the DROID loving carrier they used to be now that they have to worry about losing the iPhone if they piss of Steve Jobs in anyway.  Money talks more sadly 🙁  This is why Apple’s reign of terror needs to end, they have a tight grip on all the carriers, all the industry and maybe even the government.

        • haha, hold on let me grab my tinfoil hat

        • ExplosiveBJ

          Steve jobs officially resigned today.

        • 2010

you have to keep in mind, Apple, flipped the deathgrip carriers had on manufacturers in this country.  while they have control over at&t, they don’t over any other carrier.  in fact, they’ve opened up the gateway for development for android.  and verizon brought android to the masses with droid.  droid does.

        • 2010

Well I am in the age category and this didn’t appeal to me lol. I do agree though they need to get back to what they used to do with the droid does commercials not this stuff.

      • Anonymous

No one believes you’ve ever touched an actual woman, aside from your mom.

        • its okay son, one day you will enjoy the pleasures of a woman. it will probably be awhile because i am sure you are overweight and extremely unattractive. just keep up the grades in middle school and then in high school and when you graduate and get a job at best buy you can save your money for an escort. she will probably be a meth head but at least you will have the experience of a woman.

    • faber

      Moto = fail

    • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9u8gMWrzUs <—–That video didn't show me much about my current phone but I still got one. A lot of there ads start off that way then they give you more with each ad.

      • Excellent point.

      • Mikedeamicis

i loved that one, even if they totally ripped off transformers.

      • Obviously a much better thought out video, it gets cheapened when they have to throw in a woman in skimpy clothes. Seems to me like they ran out of ideas.

        • jeltz

and by “cheapened,” i assume you mean “made more awesome”

    • Kellex didn’t make the commercial, he’s just sharing the news. Whats the big deal. Commercial does suck but its Android News. Give him a break.

      • Mctypething

Very true, but he’s hyping the promo and saying it gives him chills. The promo is beyond awful, so he should call a spade a spade instead of blindly hyping anything having to do with the Bionic.
