NVIDIA Demos New Kal-El Quad-Core Processor with “Glowball” Game

NVIDIA told us back in February that their new Kal-El quad-core processor could be ready for prime time tablet use by the end of the summer – most of us thought it couldn’t be possible.  After all, their Tegra 2 processor was just getting its start on a select few devices, so why would they be pushing the next big thing already?  I’ll just say that if quad-core will look and perform just like they’ve demoed at this year’s Computex, then I don’t even need an answer to that question.

Through this demo we see a game called Glowball, that has been developed specifically for quad-core processors.  The quad-core processor with its 12-core GPU (graphics processing unit) take dynamic lighting and 3D environments to a whole new level.  After watching this, you’ll probably want to look back at those SHADOWGUN screenshots from last week and get a good drool session in.

was saving for a transformer or galaxy pad 10.1 …might as well wait til sept. or so to get a tab with this….i know most of you are gonna say its always something better around the corner  but come on tegra 2 tabs have only been out a few months innovation and progress is great but  you make early adopters and loyal customers feel bad when releasing upgrades this fast…kinda reminds me of that best buy buyback program commercial

Great! Good work Nvidia! Now lets make a chip that work Lte. Is that to much to ask for?

i wonder if there would be a way to just upgrade the tegra 2 in xoom to this kal-el?

    • Jeremy Gentry

since the processor on tablets are probably soldered/built onto the motherboard, probably not

I read this and my Xoom suddenly feels slightly less relevant. :-(

SonyEricsson needs to get this processor and use it for it’s next-gen Xperia Play.

  • joe1138

I knew waiting for this processor was a good choice.  If the production chips will be 20 to 30% faster than this pre-production silicon it should be even more impressive.

    Looking impressive.

I think this confirms that my first tablet will have at least a four-core processor.

I was pondering getting the Transformer… This made my decision easier.. I will wait… It will be interesting to see the rumored Amazon Tablet with the Kal- El processor.

Is the battery life 3 1/2 minutes? :P

    • TheAndroid1

      Hey, just like my thunderbolt.

      • Jeremy Gentry

24 hours of heavy use on my thunderbolt, just drop it, or learn how to use your device

          You mad?

          • Jeremy Gentry

nope not at all good sir

        • Kal-El

Did you leave it plugged into the wall the whole time? You know that doesn’t count lol

          • Jeremy Gentry

nope, but i did root it and install das bamf rom 1.6 remix on it, removed all the bloatware and turned off unnecessary services. if that is what you call cheating then so be it! :D

          • TheAndroid1

Just keep turning off every single service on your phone.  People like you are the reason manufacturers aren’t working as hard on better battery life, because you can just turn off gps/wifi/everything and that is an excuse.  I know how to use my phone, I actually have used das bamf 1.6 remix specifically and there is no way you could get a 24 hour battery life.  We should be able to leave everything on and still be able to make it through the day.

          • Jeremy Gentry

in all honesty you probably just got a bad battery, and if all else fails you can always buy an extended battery. People that leave their facebook/twitter/ updating every 15 minutes + stocks and also weather updating via gps every hour doesn’t help the cause, i mean do you really need a weather report every hour? when you can go in and manually update the information when you need it. yes its a shame that we can’t have everything update every second of the day and still make it though the day, but seriously all the features turned on in the device i probably get like 8 hours out of it, and thats ok to some people who live next to wall chargers. i like to get a full days of heavy use out of my phone. also that blockbuster app that gets put on the phone updates like every 15 minutes without permission? i mean what is it going to update…its bankruptcy status? do we really need all that crap that verizon sticks on there like city ID draining our batteries even more? Battery usage is a thin line when we the users have to suffer through all the crap that verizon loads on our devices maybe if they didn’t load all that crap on their phones we can use our batteries for what they were intended for! i mean i see where you are coming from, but where do you draw the line?

Generally speaking, I believe More Cores = Better Battery Life.

Wow…that’s just super! (No, I am not being sarcastic…that processor is gonna sport some incredible looking games, can’t wait! Hope it only costs a leg, not an arm, too, though!)
