Thunderbolt Software Update Page Changes to “COMING SOON!”

We first reported news yesterday afternoon that the newest HTC Thunderbolt update had been delayed and that Verizon was telling customers to check out the support page of the device for details.  Initially, there was nothing there, but as of this morning or very late last night, the page has changed and now reflects a “COMING SOON!” message which confirms our report.  We have no word on what caused the delay or when it will go live, so you’ll just have to sit tight.  The odd thing here, is that a XOOM update was originally scheduled to roll out back on April 28 and has also been cancelled.

We’ll try not to speculate on what all that means…you can though!  Comments?

Cheers Shannon!

downloading it now (may 13, 2:57 pm MST)

I think I have discovered the cause of all the update delays.
Verizon Wireless has screwed all its customers with the recent policy changes, data pricing and contact/upgrade terms that they no longer have any other avenue to mess with us, so they are now resorting to making promises on updates and “Coming Soon”ing them out there asses completely aware of the fact they arent doing it for month ( I personaly think they have not even began to work on gingerbread or this update, ALL LIES!!!!!!)

FYI: 4G is no more real then the tooth fairy, its a myth, a bedtime story your verizon rep tells you about to make you sleep better at night in hopes it comes true.

would love it if they were adding Gingerbread to it

  • Jboogie1289

And buried somewhere deep, deep, deep in VZW’s website I found a page that said, “We have released the software update for the Motorola Atrix, the new single core processor 3g phone and it’s been available since May of 2009 so download now”. Doot, Doot, Teeeesh !!!! (in a snare drum and high hat cymbal sound).

Verizon’s new campaign must be to screw up every phone launch, every software fix for the buggy delayed phones and then cry to the FCC they need to charge more due to their already constrained network that can’t handle the traffic from devices that can’t get onto it to begin with.

    this shouldnt surprise anyone……

  • Mjm2k5

I was annoyed…until 4g popped up in 336 on my thunderbolt five minutes ago.

  • http://twitter.com/thomroethke thomroethke

Only 6 more delays to go!

  • Anonymous

I cant even find the thunderbolt on the HTC website?…

  • Jester4281

    Dear Verizon Wireless,
In a effort to lower your monthly services we have found a solution that will allow you to lower your prices and produce quality updates and decrease the time between software releases………….FIRE YOUR DEVELOPERS AND R&D and let Android be opensource, the way it was originally ment to be, turn it over to the rooting community, they seem to have a better grasp on it then you do.

    Sincerely,

The Guy Who wont own a stock android, rooted all the way.

Man, it looks as though it is time to consider switching carriers. If VZW wasn’t so concerned with crippling embedded features , maybe the update process would speed up. Something to consider. And as far as the XOOM goes, it is long overdue for an update. The acer seems a bit speedier than my XOOM. Shame shame.

  • YourMomsLooseTwaht

Verizon slowing down an update? No way!!!

  • Jester4281

I love how VZW has all these problems, can not release updates to bring any of there phones up to date, are selling phones with our of date software and are still bitching about rooting.

I find it so comical that VZW & HTC cant get thier shit to work on thier phones with the full specs and documentation, but the rooting community can figure it out going into it blind and still produce more and better quality then they can.

Absolutely unacceptable that gingerbread is not on the thunderbolt yet. Love the progress that has come about on cyanogen, but I’m going to wait until its just a little more complete before I use it as my daily driver. Can’t wait!

    • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

lol unacceptable? name 5 phones, besides the google babies, that are available right now with gingerbread.

  • BasilofBakerStreet

XOOM update, Thunderbolt update, Network problems…problems on the homefront VZW??

  • Chris

.the thunderbolt update was delayed. What about it? Thats the Verizon slogan “update delayed”

  • http://twitter.com/labratNJ Labrat

Rooted and running BAMF 1.1.6 with the new radio built in….it AWESOME!

    • Anonymous

what did you use to root your phone? im trying to figure out which way i want to do it.

      • http://twitter.com/labratNJ Labrat

Do a quick google search on Thunderbolt one click root….Not as simple as Unrevoked, but VERY easy

        • Anonymous

Ok, thats the one I planned on doing, and pretty much the only one I did any research on. I wish the Tbolt was on Unrevoked. I used that to root my Incredible so awesome and simple. Thanks for the input.

    • Kevoskee

Download version 1.6. 2. Has better animations :-)

      • http://twitter.com/labratNJ Labrat

Doh, me and my fat fingers. 1.6.2 :) Updated via Rom Manager this morning and your right The animations are AWESOME

        • nits

I am flashing it right now….

    • nits

      I did the same !!!! Awesome ROM….

    • Anonymous

So True, all OEM software has PROBLEMS and bugs too. Root and get a ROM with actual Dev/Tech support, and end result is a better phone with more performance…..

  • Joe

Its like elevator music till u reach ur stop

  • TeeKay

When I was with another carrier (who will not be named), they kept telling up that an OS upgrade was coming out. About 6 months after the initial date, I finally got it. People posted on the carrier’s website daily with “I haven’t gotten it yet! Why haven’t I gotten it yet!?” Chances are, they have found some glitches that they want to fix before putting it out to the whole TB population. Better to fix it now, than deal with angry TB users and have to put out an update again later.

    • Anonymous

Yeah I know with the leaked versions alot of people were getting alot of random reboots so hopefully they looked into that and fixed it. people always complain but if they got the update and they had more issues they would bitch just as much. Yes verizon takes awhile but they dont want the update causing more problems then it had or they were fixing.

  • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

I lost a hope in any carrier updates a while ago.
Help yourself, root and ROM it.

  • http://profiles.google.com/karbonkopy9 Timothy Reider

I’m about a day from rooting and getting it over with

    • Anonymous

Thats what I’m thinking too… A little Das Bamf 1.6 will probably fix er right up

      • nits

I did it yesterday… and I left house at 7 am and still my battery has 60pc juice left in it… Earlier it would be only 30pc… So root and install Das Bamf 1.6 Remix… its an awesome ROM…

    • DanSke

+1 If not for a ROM at least for the ability to over-clock and debloat. That has me sold.

  • DanSke

It’s all about precedence. Why would Verizon go screwing things up now and delivering something on time. You gonna give them credit for being consistently late.

  • Bullet Tooth Tony

Maybe it’s just because Gingerbread is nearly ready??? Can we be so lucky?

    • Anonymous

Could be, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we would he abandoned since the charge whoops tbolts spec

      • Anonymous

How does the charge whoop the bolt? Less internal memory, less ram worse call quality. Other than the screen and maybe battery where does the charge whoop the tb??

        • Anonymous

A lot more emphasis needs to be placed on battery life. The mobile phone needs to be mobile. And really between that and the ad campaign they have going, I see vzw pushing the charge more and phasing out the TB. Just me.

        • Raptor007

Unless you have the DCharge you really can’t say the call quality is better or worse than the TB. I had the ThunderBolt since launch day, and I have read real world user review on call quality and so car their comment was “Crystal Clear” call quality. So other than a bump in RAM which I will agree is key the battery and display are just as critical.

  • Bqluong

It means “Update is delayed until we finish putting bloatware in.”

    • Nick

Again, another worthless comment that adds nothing productive to this posting. Have you ever heard of testing? If you don’t like bloatware either, then root your phone, troll. Oh wait, that might be too ADVANCED for you and your miniscule intelligence.

      • Anonymous

Wow! You’re certainly adding value to this thread with your “productive” comments today.

        • SugaShane

Michael_NM from downtown… (Marv Albert voice) IT’S GOOD!

      • Bqluong

Ever heard of a sense of humor. Look it up. Its good for you, dipshit.

      • Anonymous

Have you ever heard of joking around?

      • Anonymous

Why are you so mindlessly defending verizon and their bloatware? And then you go on to suggest rooting. Isn’t that a contradiction?

        • Nick

I’m not defending anyone. I do have a sense of humor, but the tone appears to be far from humorous. It just seems that lately all the comments that have put on here tends to just mindlessly complain and slam things that Kellex informs the Android user community. So what if an update is delayed? Get over it; people are lame if they keep incessantly whining about it. That’s all.

          • Tesseract 3

*rolls eyes* I just dealt with this obnoxious nonsense in a comment thread the other day.

You perceive a comment how you want to, get really upset, and then say that you are the lighthearted one while everyone else are the non humorous ones. The best part is it’s you getting irritated from the beginning. If you have a sense of humor it’s not much of one.

There is nothing wrong with complaining, companies bottom lines are about making money, that means that if they piss us off a bit, but still continue to make a profit they won’t care. That means we need to hold their feet to the fire, but, to keep it light Michael does it with humor. You see, injecting humor into something that bothers us is a great way to say whats on our mind without getting upset. It’s just our way of whistling in the dark.

You should try it something, when someone posts something that bothers you, like what Michael post, make a joke instead of going after people.

          • Anonymous

Amen, and thanks to you and others for the kind words. :-)

      • Tesseract 3

And I supposed adding something productive to the comments might be too advanced for YOU.

      • Anonymous

I can’t believe anyone actually ‘like’ your posts, they must be trolls themselves..

      • Alkanx

Appears to be a personal issue, do you have anything good to say than distress call of a moose!

  • Anonymous

Hope this fixes the bluetooth connectivity issues in the car, but doubt it.

Verizon also just posted the following: “We are preparing to provide an over the air update to the Motorola DroidX on May 13th. Additionally, we are also planning to delay it indefinitely starting early the following morning. Stay tuned for details.”

    • Anonymous

Bet that is to sell more DX2. If they are launching the 12th then why not push the update back hoping people will just drop the X and get the X2. Just saying.

  • http://www.youtube.com/lanech Lane Chaplin

My “phone idle” and “cell standby” features are using the heck out of my battery life. Usually it’s 14% and 12% respectively. To contrast, the screen is only using about 28% of overall battery. Hopefully they’re putting out an update to fix this, too, if it’s widespread. Any ideas about what’s going on here?

  • Zososchwing

    Gingerbread please

  • SugaShane

And my attitude changes to, er, stays at – I don’t give a sh…

  • Gruiz2278

Hopefully it’s to fix the random reboots…

  • Anonymous

Means Verizon wants you to buy a phone that already has updated software on it.

  • Anonymous

    “Coming Soon”….. OH NO!

  • Anonymous

“Coming Soon” is VZW-speak for “We don’t know, and even if we did, we wouldn’t tell you.”

    • Nick

You complain constantly on here. Go annoy another blog you worthless pile.

      • Anonymous

You still have an “N” where there should be a “D” in your username. Thanks again for your eloquent reply. :-)

        • Anonymous

Funny, but you said the same thing in another article.

          Ran out of comebacks?

          • Anonymous

I intentionally repeated it. What I’m running out of is patience for the influx of a-holes with no sense of humor.

          • Tesseract 3

            You tell em Michael!

The influx of douchers has become a bit of a nuisance. You’re cool.

Don’t let em get to you.
