Outbreak! Zombie Apocalypse is the Coolest Social Check-in Android App

Forget Foursquare and Google Places, this is the check-in app for Android that you should all get if you live in a city.  Outbreak! Zombie Apocalypse is a pretty radical attempt at a location-based role playing game.  The idea here, is that while you are out and about on the town, you can check into the app by scanning your thumb to see of zombies or clean people are around you and either attack them or infect them depending on your status.  The more attacks you commit, the more points and rewards you receive.  As a society that seems thrilled with zombie flicks, this game just screams “Awesome!”

This game has been out for a few weeks now, but seems to really be picking up steam as more users are signing up.  For those of you in Portland, you better watch yourselves.  I’m clean now, but can guarantee that I will be for long!

Cheers Timoh and everyone else!

how do i check in with this app?

  • Hrg

This game does not connect to the server. Is it being defective at the moment?

  • PacoBell

Ever since the Kevin created the fortification system, it’s been nearly impossible to attack fortified humans because of the lack of communication system for in-game players. Kevin says this is currently by design to avoid “griefers”, but I don’t see why users themselves couldn’t set up some com system out-of-band via facebook, Google+, Skype, etc. Otherwise, how are we supposed to attain the critical mass of zombies in order to bring down the fortification? This stuff has to be coordinated, after all.

  • Johnnythegreat

well i tryed to attack the survivors and i cant bec there isnt any zombies around bull shit in the movies one zombie kills all that is the only part of the game that is pissing me off

When we talked about oakley sunglasses cheap price store,we always considered it as fake oakley sunglasses.
But it is hardly to find out the difference from the original one, cause it has the same look and quality.

Glad (some of) you guys are enjoying the app! I’m working hard to improve the game, better zombie/survivor ratios, tasks for survivors/zombies to do, move beyond simple infect/attack model – will have more depth, messaging, notifications etc.. Anyway hope to get next version out in a couple of weeks (Just me developing, and I work full time so it takes a while)

The gps is a lot less accurate than google maps. It’s consistently showing my location about four or five blocks over while google maps is dead on…

    We need more zombies…

  • Lockes_key

I’ve been playing for about a month and now every time I scan I can’t get a sync with the server? I really enjoyed this game and am curious about what has happened?

Looks like this could be fun…if there were people in Asheville playing it.

  • Skeetch79

FC’s on my DroidX – rooted, Deodexed, GB 4.5.588 :-( and I was “Clean” too!

This reminds me of the “Zombie Run” App. Anytime you’ve got errands to run, or if you’re just jogging around the block, you can set up your area to be a zombie infested land in which you have to avoid the zombies in your path. Pretty fun, although, hard to pay attention to when driving, that’s when you need a co-pilot.

    • Ecgspam

That’s what I thought when I first installed it but I never found Zombie Run to be usefull unless you have a lot of friends with common interest or feel like running around the neighborhood looking at your phone while trying not to get hit by a car.

After looking tat this for a day I think it might be a little better implemented. For one thing you aren’t playing against the phone or your friends for a short period of time, you are just playing against random people in the area and the game doesn’t stop. From what I can tell you can “check in” and you are stuck at that location until you “check in” somewhere else. That means when you aren’t playing somebody else might be looking at your icon and coming to get you. I “checked in” at the mall today and realized that the mall is probably one of the worst places to check in since it’s easy to access. Being “checked in” at your home is probably the safest since somebody would actually have to drive into your neighborhood to get you.

That being said this game is so NOT fun right now in the Baltimore/Washington area. Of the 50 icons on my screen only 3 of them are zombies and none of them have moved since last night. I wish you could volunteer to be a zombie because the current zombies are “Shawn of the Dead” zombies while I would be a “28 days later” zombie hunting down those clean people.

Yeah I’m enjoying the concept but with 2/15 of the people in my city being clean I’m not sure how hard it will be to avoid infection… I agree about volunteering to be a zombie just to get things moving

  • Jason

I can’t install it. I get an error saying “Couldn’t install on USB storage or SD card.” Any ideas?

    • Jason

I got it… just unmounted the SD card and retried and it worked.

  • Jawshua

Well, I couldn’t get it to connect, so I’m going with my backup plan, I’ve suspected that some of my neighbors were zombies for a while now, and I think it’s about time I rid the world of them, especially before they infect me. I know there tricks too, that’s not lemonade the little girl down the street is selling, it’s zombie urine, and everyone knows that’s the quickest way to become a member in the legion of the undead! Even without this handy tracking device, I’m still going to be extra vigilant and start by cleaning up my surrounding area!

Epic. I want my android device now!!

  • FortitudineVincimus

people are so worried about Googles fragmentation when what they need to worry about is the God-awful fragmentation seen in the social networking arena… 100 different apps for checking in, staying up to date, services provided by every big provider… UGH

Thank GOD I never jumped on that God-forsaken bandwagon I mean, just “checking in” takes 10 apps and .. WTF cares

    • Anonymous

Well this is more of a game than anything with the city as your playing field. :P

    • DrScrubs

Dang. Annoyed much? They are just games.

In any event, I don’t check in on anything, but I’ll play this one! Anyone from Saint Louis?!
