Ooh! HTC Thunderbolt Launching on the 14th According to Amazon (Updated)

Come on Verizon…We know that Best Buy is the “exclusive” retailer of the Thunderbolt and that Amazon is ready to ship these at some ridiculously low price starting February 14th, so can we do this?  We’ve seen the teaser in Spanish and know that you have an English version on the way, but we don’t need it, we already translated the current version and understand the point you are making.  A.N.N.O.U.N.C.E. It.

Update:  Amazon has pulled the 2/14 date just as we broke the news on a possible launch delay:

Cheers Ryan and everyone else!  And @rusty_richards for the update!

  • Kvasilion

They won’t let you use new every 2 on thunderbolt..

  • Kevoskee

I know your whole name now Kellex lol. Anyway this sucks

  • Pooch

Does anyone know if this has Gorilla Glass?

  • shelleyjr

Has anyone noticed that their local Verizon stores are opening at 7am on the 10th of February? My guess is in anticipation for a what I assume Verizon believes will be a stampede of iPhone customers? Are that many sheople getting the iPhone?

Does anyone think that Verizon will open early on the 14th to sell the TB?

Yeah, my Best Buy is opening @ 7am on the 10th. LOL. I’m SO glad I have class that day and thus can’t work… I’m gonna laugh when it’s dead at 7am.

Verizon is absolutely terrible at communicating with their customers, especially their most loyal customers who are the most excited about their products. I’ve never quite understood their approach. It seems to be a really basic business concept that they would want to market to the different segments of their customer base. Target their i*hone marketing to people who are excited about that handset and target their android marketing to people who are excited about android. A week away from a major android launch Verizon should be doing everything to get hardcore android people excited, but instead they remain tight lipped. It makes no sense.

    • shelleyjr

Thom, I agree with you a 100%. The iPhone and TB customers are 2 different target markets. I made this same commit on another forum yesterday. Verizon can’t be that dense? They have to know this, don’t they? If not, they need to fire their marketing department.

Like I said yesterday, who on this forum is going to buy an iPhone? We want the TB right? A no brainer.

I also believe that Apple is calling the shots on the marketing of other devices through Verizon. Like they said something to the effect, you can’t promote any new phones until the iPhone has been released.

I can also understand how Verizon wouldn’t want these two phones coming out on the same day. The retail staff wouldn’t be able to keep up. It would be a nightmare for them.

  • Alvinm 77

Amazon says the 14th, Best Buy told me the 14th so its the 14th. The iPhone is coming out. Probably had an agreement with Apple to only promote the iPhone until released (not including tabs like the Xoom). And that little slick Tbolt commercial was VZW way of saying, look we can’t say it but its coming. I bet VZW would say a date after the iPhone release.

  • Kevoskee

I bet Verizon will announce the release date Thursday or Friday after that i*hone hype.

  • Anonymous

the only logical reason (to me) is that vzw and apple contracted to not “announce” any phone within x days of ifone launch.

  • Anonymous

I really wish Verizon would announce their 4G pricing–a lot of people are probably on the fence about the Thunderbolt because they’re not sure whether to make the jump to 4G or not. If you’re a week away from launching a major device like this on your heavily advertized new 4G network, why not tell people how much the 4G is gonna cost them? Amazon and Best Buy don’t seem too concerned with leaking the launch date, but even they are mum on pricing.

  • EC8CH

Verizon probably had to agree not to talk about any new phones within a certain number of weeks of the i*hone launch on VZW… typical @pphole anticompetitive BS.

    • Anonymous

I agree I actually said that yesterday in the tweet thread. Its BS and you can already see the strangle hold fapple has on vzw. Anyone else see the stupid “waiting” commercials?

    • Alvinm 77

Exactly!!!! You think big name companies like Best Buy and Amazon would be telling us the 14th and they dont know the true release date??????? It’s VZW way of telling sorry we cant tell you til after the i*hone is released. Probably a contract with Apple.

      • Anonymous

Chances are they already have shipments received too.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, what happened with the Droid 2 & Droid X? The same damn thing. Hell, that was even the same company!

Yes, these agreements exist, but anti-consumer agreements aren’t limited to Apple products.

      • EC8CH

No, their’s are just more “magical”

  • Ksizzle9

Nice so basically this is a phone that is the same as the htc eris but faster and bigger screen? Are there any apps a eris cant run that this can? Android sux.

    • Camney1

Newer OS dual cameras for video chat and 4g. Do Apple not do the same type of improvements with their stuff?? What exactly are you expecting sir?!

It’s still there, not yanked, so they are going with it. 14th it is.

  • yzmuzik3

at this point, after I put down my $50 pre-order… I could give 2 craps about the release date. Kinda getting exhausted with all these beat around the bush strategies, most VZ customers already are buying iPhones anyways, don’t see what the big fkn secret is.

  • Anonymous

Why are people excited about a plastic phone running an already-behind-the-times single-core processor? I just don’t get it.

    • amanda

its actually a metal unibody constuction and it beat the bionic.

      • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

It beat the Bionic in what? Lol

        • EC8CH

          a bootloader race :-P

        • Anonymous

quadrant scores. but its not official

          • Ragon

The Bionic was only running on one core what it was benchmarked.. that’s what I heard and what they said at the CES anyway.

    • Alvinm 77

First off its metal unibody like Amanda said. The processor and chipset is better. Has the Thunderbolt running 50% more faster and more powerful then Evo and Incredible with Quadrant scores in the 1900 out the box. Imagine overclocked. Dolby and SRS surround sound, better kickstand for sitting up or side view, 8GB internal memory, 32GB sd card pre-installed (saves me $70) first LTE 4G and from what I’ve heard and read, it’s faster then WiMax, HTC Sense 2.0 User Interface with new features like Fast Boot, sync with HTCsense. com, mobile hot spot for up to 8 device, integrated Skype mobile and DLNA Wireless Media Connectivity. And its better than any current phone you own. Thats whats all the hype is about

      • Anonymous

        burnz

    • Anonymous

It will be a great device and will be perfectly acceptable for 90% of the people in the market(just made that # up, but I bet it’s close). qHD and dual-core are nice, but not game changers yet. Beside that you still have to deal with a lame UI in Motoblur. If you like rooting or a clean UI, the Thunderbolt is for you, if you like raw specs and locked bootloaders then go Moto.

  • http://twitter.com/ThePeacedOut PeacedOut

    I’m tired of this…

    • Dr. Jekyll

seriously the so called “plastic phone” people are way too much out there.
htc Thunderbolt is NOT a plastic phone it is a unibody aluminum phone. As far as dual core is concerned why do you need it?

Come on Verizon what are you afraid of… oooh yeah Iphone sales going down…Whomp Whomp

  • Tedd Huff

What do you think should I exhaust my New every 2 ealry upgrade for the thunderbolt or wait for the Moto bionic. I am currently Rockin the DX. Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated due to my extreme desire to get a new device.

    • Mrpicolas

If you want full custom roms HTC if you want locked down moto

      • Anonymous

Wait for a dual core HTC, imo. This thing is rad and all, but once we get dual core optimised Android (2.4 and 3.0), software will come out that quickly leaves this one behind.

    • Brum08

VZW told me my upgrade eligibility expires 6 months after they issue it. So keep that in mind. If you can wait, I think the bionic will be ultimately better but there is nothing wrong with the Thunderbolt. Check out phones with motoblur and htc sense though. It will give you a better idea as to which phone is better for you.

      • http://twitter.com/piinkhibiscus bethinabox

Your “new every two” credit might expire (I have NO idea on that) but they will NOT take away your upgrade eligibility… That would make no sense. Once you’re eligible for an upgrade, that means you’ve paid off the cost of your phone enough that they’ll let you get a new one. This is typically ~20 months, so 4 months later you’re totally out of contract, can cancel with no ETF, etc. But they can’t take away your upgrade, that makes no sense…

      • Brains89

        someone lied to you…smh

    please vzw just say it
