DROID 2 Update Finally Rolling Out to Everyone

After almost a week of waiting, Droid 2 owners who were not in the initial batch for the 2.3.20 update can now head to their Settings>About>System Updates page and pull it.  The shot above is from my D2 and the update popped up immediately for download.  Have fun!

Don’t forget to grab the 2.3.20 SBF file if you are into all that rooting trickery.

  • Blah

Still not there for me, grumble, grumble.

  • MarvinPeabody

Far worse battery preformance with 2.30.20 update! Never seen 15% battery life before update…now its a daily occurance. Any one else with similar experience? Any way to go backwards and un-do the update?

  • Damonlbeaty

I updated my rooted droid 2, now Root Explorer wont work!

  • ThrashUnreal

I have an R2-D2 Droid 2 and my version is 2.4.5..is this just a special build? I thought that it would be the same as the Droid 2..

  • Nope…I still get the your version is up to date message when I do s System Update check.

    • Guest

just checked mine in ga and it worked its downloading now.

  • YHAO

It always says update has failed for me

    • snowblind64

I'm guessing you rooted and removed some of the bloatware. I had the same issue.

The OTA update checks the system files and will fail if anything has been altered. I just had to change all the apks back from .bak to .apk and the update succeeded. If you deleted the files you can either search for the stock system apk's, restore a nandroid backup from before you removed the bloat (you did back up right?), or flash the 2.2.20 SBF.

My Handcent SMS time is off by like 4 hours, how do I fix this?

  • BeeJay

What does “Keep text messages organized with chronological in-box screen” mean?? I don't see any change in the sms app.

  • Droid 2 User

Anybody else getting, “An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete”? I have been getting this message for the past two weeks when I check system update.

  • Higher_Ground

Should we expect a similar update for the DX any time soon?

    • wolverinefan

Real good question; all rumors on our Droid X have been dead lately? Whats the news any 2.3 update, motorola and VZW have yet to push the fixes from the froyo release?

  • Maansova

i got my update late last night, so far the only difference that i see is the lock bar is more above and the time of the lock screen is centered……….. can any body tell what else is diferent?, cause everything looks the same!

  • guest

They changed where the slider is on the lock screen. It's probably easier to reach now, but man, that's going to take some getting used to.

    • kellex

They did change it and thank buddha. That old one was tough and low.

  • Msombloski

i don't see any differences so far with the update. hopefully the battery really is improved…

  • Darkseider

Anyone know if this update does/did anything to address ActiveSync for Exchange 2007/2010? Touchdown works great but would like the native email client to do what it is supposed to.

  • is 2.3.0 the actual Gingerbread update for D2, or is it just an update?

a.k.a does it include the gingerbread goodies?

    • Michael_NM

2.3.0 is the system version, not the Android version. Gingerbread is still in the oven. 🙂

  • Hightidelowshore

Anyone know a good source to for rooting a D2 running 2.2?

I'm afraid the sites i keep finding are only for D1 running 2.2.

    thanks in advanced

  • Solidsnakedoc

any one have the ota file for download?

  • Solidsnakedoc

    what does SBF stand for?

    • Higher_Ground

      Single Black Female

depends on the context 🙂 (you didn't play continuum/subspace did you? the name's familiar)

  • I just flashed the sbf. I grew tired of waiting. Im so glad everything still works like super one click root, the bootstrapper and jrummy oc app.

  • Solidsnakedoc

all i get is “Check for updates was not available at this time. Try again later.” any ine know what the hell this is.

    • rals

Go to settings> Data Manager> Data Delivery> Social Applications> uncheck sync over wifi Only

Then go back and try again.

    • Stevyr

I get the same thing. And my sync over wifi only is unchecked.

      • Stevyr

        nvm I got it now

  • El Che

What if my phone has Version 2.4.5? Because my is using that version and is not detecting an update. Is it because its an R2D2 Droid does this means we get the updates later than everybody else?

  • I installed this earlier today. The update did take away root (of course), but I was able to re-root with no problems. Everything appears still to work after re-rooting, including Koush's recovery bootstrap tool, though I haven't tested extensively just yet.

  • CR2886

Just checked and got the same screen as pictured…South Florida

  • Dan

So…I rooted my D2 a few weeks ago using the 2.2.20 version, does that mean if I install this I will brick my phone?

  • no update for me 🙁

  • Unfortunately my D2 still isn't detecting the update.

  • The350zWolf

Downloading the sbf files. These downloading server host sites bite!

    • KleenDroid

Also took me forever, I just worry that I got it all. I would hate to find out I didn’t while in the middle of flashing sbf… 🙁
