New HTC Slider Hits FCC, Is it the Next DROID?

A new slider dual-mode HTC Android slider has hit the FCC and as has been noted around the interwebs, is shining brightly in Verizon colors (logo included).  Sporting a 4 inch screen and what appears to be an instant winner of a keyboard, how can this bad boy not get you all wet and steamy?

No name, release timeframe or spec list at this time.  We’re guessing this would be a Q1 2011 release at the earliest.

    Nice, that's helpful for me!

  • Jlnelson73

I've heard it being called the Nexus Two so how about the Droid Nexus??? :D :P lol

  • http://twitter.com/GulMiguel Miguel Velez-White

Well said dear friend. My first exploration into Android phones was the HTC Aria. It was cute and little and as usual HTC figures that I have to have skinny little fingers for the virtual QWERTY. It only took about a week and then I changed phone carriers and went with a true DROID. The difference is like night and day. By this time tomorrow, I will have successfully gone the risk of exchanging my D2 for the DX (I like lots of memory and plenty of real estate on my screen). I'm willing to wait a bit for them to catch up with 2.2 for that unit. But not TOO long. I want to be legal, but I know where to find XDA if it comes to it. *LOL*

I think I'd like to see some other color choices besides the red. HTC makes good stuff – I wonder if this is the beginning views of what Verizon's 4G phone offerings will be looking like. Personally, I've gotten so used to the virtual QWERTY that it really doesn't make a difference anymore. The Droid X is nice and lite and fewer moving parts to have potentially screw up. The final decision for me is always dependent upon what's under the hood (processor, memory, etc.)

  • Hachooie

    Lol its all scratched up!!!

  • DeNon

this the phone ive been waiting for !! looks like im holding on to the droid 1 until this comes out.

Looks like a redheaded stepchild. I'll stick with Motorola and my original Droid for now

  • Smooth

No! It isn't the next Droid – 'Droid – Droid Incredible – Droid X – Droid2' in order to be the Next Droid there are two major prerequisites “Motorola & Verizon” everything else is just an AnDroid

    • Smooth

Correction: Scratch that Droid Incredible, its not Motorola: Droid, Droid X and Droid 2

      • Icy-X

I think you may need to go lookup your names bro. It's a Droid regardless. The D-Inc is the mini D-X lol. Think about it and come back. Now you can't say that Sprints Evo is a Droid Evo…… That's just nasty.

    • Lexiedgerocks

You failed to mention the Incredible is made by HTC.

    • Icy-X

I'm trying to figure out who you are to say what is a Droid and what isnt? Lol, no one said Motorola HAD to be the brand in order for a phone to be a Droid. Lol.

Oh LORD, I'd sell my Incredible on eBay in a heartbeat for this phone…. need need neeeeeeeed!

  • Rizzidy

    I want.

  • Bdmsgaiters

i dont like the shape of the silver trim on the phone…..if the phone goes under the droid series ima be very dissapointed with verizon……they should make a verizon version of the htc evo and put it under the droid series

    • Icy-X

Why do that when they have the X for that? The only difference is the sense and the touch buttons….. No point in putting the same phone unless they're upgrading it. A Droid Evo wouldn't be upgrading it would just have 2 different features. Lol, and a front facing camera.

    That red keyboard is ugly!!!

    • magickitty

      I like it!

  • http://twitter.com/schwartzman93 Thomas Schwartz

Whats with everyone hating on the keyboard….though i probably wouldnt use it for texting so much…this would be great for gaming…i hate playing emulators with virtual controllers…but they should invert the colors of it or make the whole thing black and not just the keys

  • Keideki

HTC is expected to announce this guy on the September 15, so why forecast a Q1 2011 release?

  • Ben

All of it looks great, except… why the red search key?

Looks a little weird to me there.

  • evltwn

Could this be the new G2?

    • http://twitter.com/zachattack112 Zach Loe

it kinda looks like it, but i dont think that the droid blank or g2 will look exactly the same

  • Marshcasey

    This phone is so sexy!

  • Mike

Why do they continue to make keyboard phones without a dedicated number row?

    • BAoxymoron

because double tapping fn put fn lock on and then makes it essentially didicated

  • EggoEspada

    Droid Merge?

  • sundawg

I hope this is the rumored phone I have been seeing around the web, if it is it should have the evo kickstand and a rumored front facing camera.

  • Scea0512

If its made by HTC, its NOT a Droid

    • RumbaCembe

i could have sworn there was a phone for verizon called the htc DROID incredible, feel free to correct me if i am wrong

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710530141 Tyler Buchanan

don't forget the DROID Eris LOL

        • Icy-X

People just pick and choose what they want to be a Droid and what not to be. The lineup goes as is. Moto DROID, Droid Eris, Droid Incredible, Droid X, Droid 2, and this last little thing Droid Blank (lol had to think of something but I drew a blank lol.

      • MuddyB00ts

I hope it gets released soon. I've been all over this site and it looks like Kellex has had one for a while, that guy's so lucky… :P

      • ::: polkadot :::

Droid is the OS as in Android?

    • Victordean

      HTC makes droids too
You haven't heard of the HTC Droid Incredible

    • Icy-X

Might wanna go read on the carriers site. “DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC” …… Need the link? Here ya go. http://www.verizonwireless.com, look in the Android section, should be like the 4 phone from the bottom.

  • Stephen D

It's ugly, especially that red on the keyboard. At least this doesn't have a crappy optical joystick like the Incredible. Maybe this is going to be the first phone running the new Gingerbread Sense?

    • themiracle2012

once you get use to the optical key it comes in handy. makes editing text and scrolling web pages much easier. w/ root and some manipulation of the skyraider goodies you also have the option to use the optical key to wake the phone. pretty sweet if you ask me. hit optical key to wake then menu to unlock.

  • Ryan

    That keyboard is ugly.

  • BigFonz

So if this is a world phone or whatever, does that mean that when I travel I'll be able to put in a cheap pre paid sim card in it? If so, I will be first in line for one. I'm not a fan of paying roaming rates & I hate having to carry a cheap plastic phone around.

    • Mobrienjr85

The HTC Touch Pro 2 is a world phone. It comes with a pre-installed SIM card and to activate it you call verizon and tell them what country or countries you are going to go to. They then activate the SIM card for you to travel with.

      • BigFonz

I would want one were I would be able to change the sim out myself. If it doesn't have that capability, I don't want it.

  • http://twitter.com/SyrusGuyrus Syrus Guyrus

I hope theres a front facing camera! Then it would be called the HTC Epic Win!

  • http://www.facebook.com/GotMurph Ben Murphy

You had me at wet and steamy. :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/ewhitaker Eric Whitaker

      You had me at slider

  • RFMike

If this does everything the Droid Incredible does and more. I'm Down, I already know it does Dual Core prepossessing and its a Dual Band(World)Phone. This may end up being called the Incredible Pro. Cuz it does have a keyboard an the same Fire Engine Red as the Incredible's Internals. Motorola is also coming out with a Droid Pro that will also be a World phone.

  • http://twitter.com/ShiYonShi Justin

    Do want! :D

  • papiDroidx

I like big screen and big keyboard gonna be a big hit

  • AnDroidSepTIX

Can you SWYPE on the keypad?

    • leenakaimo

Could be the HTC Scorpion? To think that it didn't debuted on the market. (Evo 4g = HTC Supersonic)

  • Michael_NM

Dr. Droid said, “how can this bad boy not get you all wet and steamy?” I love my Droids, but wet and steamy? Wow! :P

    My 500th Droid-Life comment… I would have never thought I'd type wet or steamy in a comment, but… :)

This phone looks cool, but I'm starting to believe that physical keyboards are passe.

  • Mobrienjr85

Does anybody see that this maybe the Touch Pro 3….It looks almost identical to my wife's touch pro 2…

    • hawaiianbrowneyez05

cant be the touch pro 3, its android based and the touch pro's are windows mobile

      • Mobrienjr85

Couldnt they change that. I mean it looks almost identical to my wifes phone. The only big difference I see are the buttons on the buttons on the bottom

  • http://twitter.com/Pollita_Droid Erica Marchand

would this be like the incredible slide? hmm

  • palomosan

It may have a 1.2ghz processor and be the first LTE phone from Verizon which is a good thing.

  • Jay

    droid pro?

    • JohnPA2006

More like an Evo mashed with a HTC Touch Pro 2(keyboard), running android.
The Droid Pro is just a Droid 2 with a GSM Vodaphone chipset inside.

  • http://www.facebook.com/republicansaredumbasses Ебем Огайо Deutsch

of course its headingo to big red! do you see the verizon logo at the top of the phone?

    • kellex

Hahah wow. Been a long weekend.

      • Jack Overholt

no one reads all of the posts these days.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1407153173 Paul Hunter

Not impressed 1. Its HTC 2. Its has a sliding keyboard which i hate.

  • http://www.facebook.com/zachpepsin EaglesDudeNFL

i never liked the htcs :/

  • iamthewalrus2211

4 in. and a slide out keyboard? nice

  • ghostrigger
