If we did a manual install and it didn't work out alright, will the OTA update still come through?

any word on when the official verizon update will be released for droid?

  • I was wondering if these verizon documents were sent in an email or something… i would really like to send them to my sister but she's the sort that is skeptical if she can't access them on a verizon server.

  • The_Other_Ray

This thing's got native Remote Wipe and Lock??? So no more need for Lookout or Wavesecure?

If this is true, all I would need is just “Where's My Droid” and I'm set.

  • Rogue5

270 degrees rotation? what is that exactly? Sorry this is the 1st time I heard and seen that.

    • Flyinion

When you turn your phone upside down the screen will flip. Currently you only get “normal” and landscape mode. I made a comment about this earlier because they make it sound in the verizon info that no matter which way you hold the phone the screen will change to that. 270 degrees is not a full circle though. Custom ROMs like simply stunning 4.5 however WILL allow full 360 degree rotation right now.

  • So I take it Verizon removed the mobile hotspots app!? F it then, looks like im rooting afterall……..

  • Travillion

I note they did not mention anything about the JIT compiler…is it possible they would've written that out of the Droid build? To me, that was one of the big draws to 2.2–the speed increase.

    • where's 3.0?

I'm a little worried about that too. Why wouldn't they mention something most people are looking forward to?

      • Rob

Because other than people that read these types of forums and tech sites, most people wouldn't know what that would even mean. It's there, it's part of 2.2.

        • That's what I have been figuring too. It's one of those 'under the hood' deals that probably 90% of people do not understand. I am sure it is there.

  • misphit_917

I'm glad were getting the update, but it seems like being rooted is the future for the Droid 1 it's a shame……(No disrespect) to the rooted.

  • MEH

did no one else realize that that horrid MOTOBLUR screen wasnt shown in the photos? maybe if we send up a prayer we'll get stock android. lol

  • JP

Wow.. maybe I've been overlooking it until now, but I'm pumped to find out I'll have 5 home screens now! DRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID!

    • jeesung

'bout freakin time . . . though i'm kinda hooked on the 7 screens of ADW launcher

    • Tyler

      Dude, root, Launcherpro, or ADW

  • Brad

Dude is there no tethering? No wifi-tethering or USB tether

  • Scotty89

why is it coming as Flash 10.1 beta? I thought 2.2 had the full fledged flash or is this just for the Droid 1 only?

  • tjpeco

Can someone explain to me, in layman's terms, the difference between an “Enhancement” and an “Improvement” ?

Because I don't think there is any. It just breaks up the huge WOT 😛

    • Rob

Enhancement = Add on, meaning we didn't have Flash before
Improvement = Equals tweaks to existing functions

  • Claire

If anyone gets this update, can you check to see if you can connect to an N-router wifi connection? I have not been able to do this since I rooted. It's a small price to pay, but it would be nice, since that is what I have at home.

Or, if I completely missed the fix, please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks so much,

    • Leatherneck111

To get Wifi working go to:

Now download the Low Voltage Froyo Kernel (low 125 MHz): 1000 = 125/400/500/600/800/900/1000

Install the Kernel Don't wipe data and cache just do a backup.

And voila, your wifi will work. By the way I have been using this 1GHz Kernel on my Moto Droid running BuglessBeast 0.4 for a couple of weeks and it is fast, stable and doesn't get too hot.

      • Claire

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go later today and let you know how it goes.

      • Claire

I leaded this Kernel and love that it runs cooler, but it did not fix my wifi problem. I am unable to obtain an IP address once the phone locates my home wireless. It worked before I rooted, but not since.

Ah well, I'll see what people report about the OTA update. Thanks for trying.

  • zepfloyd

Thanks for the shout kellex! 🙂

    You're welcome!

  • Leonard

    what about the milestone? =(

  • dgump

    mobile hotspot?

  • Its official for next week… the motorola spokesmen confirmed it at this site…

  • Zeadaplaya

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE, whenever i view the link in any browser, it says that it couldn't find eula.exe in the program files, does anyone know how to fix this?

  • stlbryson

Just got this “official” email form the Motorola Droid Forums:

Re: Follow this thread for news about Android 2.2 for Droid

I'm happy to report that Verizon Wireless will start pushing Android 2.2 (Froyo) to the original Droid by Motorola during the week of August 2.

Although I can't confirm it yet, I would not be surprised if there were a push to some small number of users as a pre-launch test as early as tonight…

    Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!

  • Boy2007wonder

This is slightly off topic but I was just trying to root my Droid 1 using the new method. I downloaded the attachment and ran it. But, before i could even get through all of the steps, a message popped up saying that I already had root access to my Droid; which is strange because I have never attempted to root my Droid. I exited out of the Updater app thing and my phone seems the same. But after seeing this post i realized that I would like to wait before rooting. But my problem is that idk if im actually Rooted or not? Help PLEASE and Thnx???

    • Fordc08

when you open up your app drawer, do you see the lil ninja in there? if so then your probably rooted

      • Boy2007wonder

OMG?? thats crazy. so im rooted and dont even know it!! Soo…how do i return to stock?

    • Mchlls22

Mine said that too and I just kept hitting ok….walked away for 2 minutes and it was finishing the download when I got back. And I know I DEF was NOT rooted before this.

  • Imdfnman

    no Apps2SD?

    • ChrisR

I was wondering the same thing…I thought this was part of Froyo…anyone have information that it will be part of this build?

  • The D1s can already get 2.2 with rooting I want it on my DX.

  • Zeadaplaya

hey can one of you guyz post the link to this.

  • Flyinion

Now all I want to know is what baseband is it coming with. I'm still on the one for 2.1 because nobody could tell me what the newer leaked ones did and I saw mixed reviews on both where some said one had better signal than the other and vice versa. Maybe official will come with yet a newer baseband than the leaks?

  • Is there any mention of running apps from the SD card? I didn't see it on the information sheet!

    • Smeckle

I'm wondering the same thing…that's one of the major things I want, still being unrooted. I'd like to get the rooted Froyo but I'm still on the fence looking at people's questions about the DMUpdater and thinking about the risk.

First time poster, btw, but I've enjoyed readings all the updates and comments daily over the last couple months!

  • RW-1

Note they did not tout hotspot capability? Which doesnt bother me, wi fi tether for root.

  • YankInDaSouth

None of the leaked version have bluetooth voice dialing, right?

    • kellex

      No they do.

    • Flyinion

Actually they do, I totally forgot about it and tested it the other day.

  • Mario925m

    Mototola Droid 2.2!!!

  • Tyler

Is there anything on here that the unofficial ROM is missing?

    • kellex

Just bug fixes from what I can tell. Going for FRG01 to FRG01B can't be anything major.

  • didnt even mention JIT…. my thing is everyone hyped about the droid lineup receieving the OTA… but this shows us only the moto droid is getting it… why would you only announce one of 3 if you were planning on doing three so clearly not coming out next week for us DX owners…

    • littleneutrino

Yeah I am slightly worried about this myself being that they did not talk about it it bother me slightly however, i know that it is going to be in there because it was in the beta (if you can call it that) build of it. So hopefully it will just be there and they will just not announce anything about it publicly.

  • EggoEspada

Great news, many devices will have Froyo by the end of August. Its good to see everyone is on the ball with updates now. Android's fragmentation looks less and less every month.

  • Ace Z.

You guys might get mad, but after playing with my DX for an entire week, I've decided to return it and reimburse my early upgrade. Kellex thanks for the advice, it was greatly appreciated! You described the DX to the “t.” I hope you continue to enjoy yours, but I started to miss my D1. Maybe patience will be a virtue for me.

  • Andrew Hewitt

It's funny how much I've taken for granted all of these new features. If I was still unrooted right now I would be ECSTATIC.

    • kellex

Yeah for those that haven't rooted, you are going to love Froyo. It really is the best Android build yet.

  • I need help some 1

  • 1bad69z28

    Third lol

  • jedijesus95

So will this be official Flash 10.1 or will it still be the beta?

    • Chase

Good questions, I want this answered!

      • Michael_NM

It's listed on page 1. Flash 10.1 Beta will be available in the market as a download.

        • Flyinion

FWIW on Simply Stunning 4.5 I noticed the same flash beta I manually installed is now showing in the market. As far as I know SS 4.5 has the market fix so there aren't a bunch of apps missing so I was surprised to see flash showing in there. Either way, it's in the Market already and waiting for people to download it 🙂

  • Jason

Now if only they'd release some info for the Droid X 😀

  • first

    • Carfarm

So, I have been rooted for a couple of months. Does that mean the devs will take this new official build and create roms based on this build that we rooted users can install? Will they be better than what we are running now?
