Wednesday Poll: Do You Own an Android Tablet?

Back in February, we asked the members of the DL community if they owned an Android tablet or not. The amount of “No” we recorded was quite high at 53%, but with the launch of the Nexus 7 and other nice slates from ASUS, we’re thinking the numbers have changed quite a bit.

If you’ve answered “No” today, feel free to let us know down below in the comments either what you’re waiting for or why you don’t want a tablet at all.

Maybe the Nexus7 32gb. But still not certain.

  • shakypete

Does a rooted original Kindle Fire with Jelly Bean on it count?

  • Diablo81588

I don’t have a tablet because I have no need for a less functioning, larger screened version of my phone.

  • jzwerlz43

    nexus 7 16 GB!

  • http://twitter.com/3dflyercj chris jones

No, but im dying to get a nexus 7, just dont have money right now…

  • Technomandfw

I have the Toshiba Thrive 10.1, and it works very well. Just wish I had the 32gb.

  • etg9

Waiting for a Windows 8 tablet that I can do real work on. Office/Adobe is still king where I am and I don’t want to carry a laptop and tablet.

  • Bill M.

Waiting for the Nexus 10…and if it’s built by Samsung (as it is rumored to be), then I’ll be ALL OVER IT!

  • Paul

I’ve never cared for tablets. If I’m going to bring something around that can’t fit in my pocket, I’m just going to bring my gaming laptop. I like having a keyboard and mouse, along with an i7, 5870, and Samsung SSD.

  • InyRules

Transformer TF101 with laptop dock. Couldn’t resist it on Swappa. ICS is just a tad laggy for my liking, so I am about to root and install a JB ROM. They look pretty slick when running on the TF101.

  • MattH818

TF201. Jelly Bean has made it run sooooooo much better. :)

  • Jason M

I have been very excited by the Nexus 7, but I’m waiting for a 10 inch tablet. So I’m looking forward to the Nexus 10, as rumored to soon be released by Samsung.

  • nexuschimp

I don’t now but I really want a nexus 7 wait in to see if 32 gig is affordable or not

  • JSIN

I had a XOOM but i only used it a hand full of times so i sold it.

  • bkDJ

No. I’m happy with my Android phone (GNex) and iOS tablet (iPad 3, though I was happiER before the latest version made maps and the store worse).

  • Nick Y

Does the HP Touchpad running Android count?

    • tgom222

      +1, that’s all I have.

    • Tony Allen

It was good enough to ship with Android for HP.. so yes lol

    • kstrickland05

I was going to ask the same question. Installed Android on mine the day it was released. So I voted yes.

    • Simon Belmont

I’d say yes. I own an HP TouchPad with CM9 and a B&N Nook Color with CM9. ;)

I count them both as Android tablets. With a little work, of course. :)

  • Aaron Fredricks

am i the only person here rocking an HTC Flyer?

  • Jeheshua

Don’t currently own one. Still waiting for that nexus7 32gb to drop… Been waiting for it since they launched with 8 and 16 gig variants. I knew a 32 gig would be coming along (or something else in a 7″ 32gb -with those nice specs that the N7 has -or better)

  • Brian

No, I am still trying to win one on your website!

  • harsh

Kindle fire and Xoom wifi. I haven’t really used them both much except for rooting and installing tons of ROM’s.

  • Amenemhat1

“No, but I want one!” is a missing option in this poll…

  • Zach Armstrong

Yes a Nexus 7 and I love it. I now use it more than my laptop.

  • Bradley Michael

    waiting for nexus 10

  • Jeff Mcdonald

haven’t plunked down the cash yet. But am thinking that with a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 (assuming one is coming) I can utilize that for all my needs and actually get a little more life out of my GNex. Since I need to keep my GNex for a while as I will be paying full price for my next phone to keep unlimited data. :)

Took entire family from multiple iPads, to Galaxy tab 10.1’s, and now on Nexus 7’s. Everyone loves the 7″ form factor more than the 10.1. Its able to be used in more places/more mobile, latest OS updates always, and hangouts – are the biggest LIKES across the board.

  • Big Bird

Does the POS Asus Prime count?

  • jbegs

I’m saving up to get the Note 10.1. I can’t get the Note II since I just upgraded to the S3, so the tablet will have to do.

  • Po0yAn

Nexus 7 with a hybrid ROM (like PA or C&C) on top + GMD Gesture control is a BOMB!!! I never considered myself using a tablet this much!

  • Bigwavedave25

Want one, but I would have to buy 2 (2 kids). There wasn’t an option worth the money until the Nexus 7 came out. Now holding out for a 32Gb Nexus7 and/or price drops on the origional, Christmas presents perhaps? :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/nathanielnewmanmusic Nathaniel Newman

I don’t own a tablet because of the out right cost. If they came down to $99 then it might be worth it. But most are as expensive as a phone. In this economy $199 isn’t play money.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10602828 Mike Hilal

xoom wifi….other than it weighing a ton, it’s served me well

  • Hunter Hambrick

Use to but had to send two nexus 7’s back because of the screen lift and couldnt get the problem resolved on my own. anyone know if they have recently fixed this problem havent heard any word.

  • doug

I don’t currently have any tabliet. I’d love to have a Nexus 7 but it doesn’t feel any real “need” I have and I can’t just the expense just for a want.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1771973427 Chris Dartois

I bought an ASUS Transformer Infinity a few weeks back. It was both great and frustratingly bad at the same time. Netflix was completely unusable both pre and post Jelly Bean. The Lock Screen in Portrait mode would leave the bottom 5th of the screen uncovered. It seems half finished.

I submitted an RMA for it and will wait and see what the Nexus 10 looks like. If it’s still half assed, I can make due without a tablet.

  • Brian

Does a rooted Nook Color running CM7 count?

  • SecurityNick

Still rocking my Xoom WiFi. Runs better today on stock JB than the day I got it (not long after launch). Hoping for a Nexus 10 though soon.

  • Mr Waldo

Waiting to get a Nexus 7 for Xmas

  • CopierITGuy

    OG Transformer, baby!

    • CopierITGuy

And my wife has a Kindle Fire, but don’t hold that against me.

  • Terry Dalton

My wife has a Nook that I put a NOOK2ANDROID on, but I am waiting on a real tablet, hopefully the new 32gb Nexus.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535178558 Nathan Massouda

    TouchPad with ICS count? :P

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=30814337 Brian Rokosz

Transformer Infinity…4.1 running and its fan.friggin.tastic

  • Keith0606

Nexus 7, i previously had a galaxy tab 10.1 but that was almost a total disappointment and I sold it 4 months after I bought it.

  • http://www.dsaif.tk/ Saif

Yes, Nexus 7. My first Android Tablet!

  • Andrew Elliott

waiting to see if the nexus 7 $99 dollar rumors are true

    • hkklife

Even if they are I wouldn’t expect much….maybe a slow 1ghz dual-core CPU, 4Gb of internal storage (8Gb if you are really lucky), no camera and no BT. I don’t see how anyone can carve enough away from the current 8Gb $199 N7 in order to profitably hit the $99 pricepoint and still be a decent enough experience to be called a “Nexus” unless there is a huge subsidy involved from Google. And most retailers wouldn’t want to carry an item on their shelves with such low margins either. You know Google will not sink to using a resistive touchscreen or anything like the Chinese no-name tabs, so I just think that $150 is going to be the botttom run for a name-brand tablet for the forseeable future. I’d rather see them drop the 8Gb N7 completely and move the 16Gb version down to $199 and introduce a beefed-up 32Gb model at $250.

  • aye_winchell

Yup, i pre-orderd the n7 the say it was announced, could not be more happy with my n7, my gf has a nook tab running some version cm7, i think, probably needs to be upgraded but still waiting for cm10 to get more stable before i upgrade her.

  • socrates_johnson

    I’ll assume cm9 Nook Color counts…

  • http://www.facebook.com/taylor.steele.777 Taylor Steele

I’m sure my sentiments have already been reflected here, but there is still no compelling reason for me to own an Android tablet, let alone any tablet at all.

The N7 is a great device in it of itself, but it’s much more of a portable media player and media consumption device if anything. I already own a rather nice laptop that I use for school, which handles all my media viewing needs. The tablet app ecosystem has not come into a good place for developers yet, therefore, the app ecosystem has not flourished like the phone ecosystem, or even Apple’s tablet ecosystem. Think about it: It’s so bad that Google has had to come in and say “Use the entire freakin’ screen on tables”, something that should be a no-brainer for developers. I’m hoping that the holiday season creates a larger market share for Android tablets so that more developers can hop on board.

As far as other tablets (Lets be real, the only other tablet is the iPad), they still do not hold a place where they are technologically viable as part of my life. All the tasks that people accomplish on any tablet are better accomplished on a fully-fledged computer. The only difference between my kickass laptop and a tablet is that my computer is about 1.5 pounds heavier and can do everything a tablet can better. Tablets are still a technological-curiosity item.

TL;DR, Tablets have yet to secure their own fulfilling place in the technology market.

    • JoshGroff

Until I can fit a laptop in my pocket, I’ll stick to my N7 for portable media consumption. My phone I use for music and phone stuff only because of the sub par battery life when it comes to on screen time. And of course my laptop does all the heavy lifting and doc editing.

      • http://www.facebook.com/taylor.steele.777 Taylor Steele

        I respect that

  • EvanTheGamer

The fantastically incredible Nexus 7, my first-ever tablet!! Well, I could have bought the XOOM, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, etc, but decided to wait until the one I really wanted came along.

    • http://www.facebook.com/tylerjehills Tyler James Edward Hills

      Better lol

      • EvanTheGamer

hahah…yeah, minor f up on my part. I think the Galaxy Nexus and the SGSIII was on the mind at the time.

  • BTLS

Not yet… I plan on getting my booty-call lady friend to buy me a 32GB Nexus 7 for my Bday… If she don’t last I’ll end up getting one for “meselfs” anyway

  • CoCoCalypso

I have a phone and an ultra book.

I still don’t see the point of tablets at all. It provides the same exact functionality with a bigger screen.

Tablets to me are still just something for hipters to bring to baseball games and piss me off when they hold up this over sized cell phone to take a picture.

    • hkklife

I wouldn’t take such a hard stance as you, BUT in all honesty, If I had something like a Nexus device with Galaxy Note 2 size/specs, or at least a 5″ smartphone, however, I could probably ditch the tablet and do just fine with my phablet and my ultrabook.
To me, the epitome of the hipster device carried around to inappropriate places will forever be the 3G iPad. I see those things EVERYWHERE!

    • mxracer9111

You seem to be very angry…i guess some people are just violent from the core – out.

    • David Henry

I love tablets. I am on a plane at least 5 hours a week, and in airports another 3 hours a week and the convenience of its size and and a great screen is perfect for me.

Though I will agree it is silly to take pics from a tablet, especially because historically most of their cameras are total garbage. No issue for me that the Nex7 did not have a camera.
