Report: T-Mobile in Talks to Merge With MetroPCS

Reports out of both Bloomberg and Reuters this morning, speak of talks between Deutsche Telekom and MetroPCS, in hopes of merging T-Mobile with the smaller U.S. carrier. One source went as far as saying the “deal is close” while others were quick to point out that it’s “not certain” just yet.

If this deal were to go down, you can imagine that it would immediately help boost T-Mobile who has been losing customers in droves after their attempted merger with AT&T was denied. There subscriber count would jump to over 40 million, they would likely gain similar spectrum to what they already own, and potentially, the strength to finally build out an LTE network.

Nothing is official or final at this point, but the talks seem to be serious.

That is just an awful picture of Carly.

T-mobile is the place to be for the forseeable future. This merger will be final Wednesday…

This will be great news, if the MetroPCS $39.99/month limited plans remain an option.

I’d be overjoyed to see Verizon get some more competition.

Is that her “Vinegar Strokes” face?

As a VZW customer who’s not currently interested in leaving (I’m not happy with Verizon’s service by any means, but not so dissatisfied that I’d bother jumping ship for the time being), I’m really excited for this. The biggest reason VZW gets away with so much is lack of competition — nobody else has a network like theirs. If some of these other providers start banding together and can actually start to compete with Verizon’s network, Verizon will be once again forced to make themselves an attractive option to consumers, which would (hopefully) mean better service.

Or they’ll just continue to suck, at which point I’d be happy to have a reasonable alternative.

Honestly ”NOBODY WANTS a network like Verizon. I have been there done that Verizon is sorely OVERRATED and OVER PRICED. It’s LTE network is very unbalanced and none of there overall lte devices work the same. Poor reception and crappy signal strength seems to be a normal issue with Verizon. We won’t even discuss that JOKE concerning shared data plans. Verizon is just like apple they whitewash people into thinking what they offer is best but comopared to tmobile Verizon is useless and so is it’s entire footprint of lte. Tmobile and it’s HSPA PLUS network runs rings around Verizon and the future of LTE ADVANCED will be much better than any current LTE network availabe today. People on Verizon are only fooling themselves Verizon loves that..

“Honestly ”NOBODY WANTS a network like Verizon.” Reallllly now? No one wants a network that spans most of the US and is generally quite realiable and fast? And what evidence do you have to support this wildly outrageous claim? I think the 109 or so million Verizon Wireless subscribers would beg to differ.
“none of there overall lte devices work the same.” Hmmm maybe that has something to do with the different radio hardware found in the different manufacturers’ phones with different radio firmware. Ever think of that? Noooo of course you haven’t. You’ve been saying this same idiotic thing for months. -_-
“Verizon is useless and so is it’s entire footprint of lte.” Again, I think the 109 or so million wireless subscribers would beg to differ. If Verizon really were as “useless” as you claim, do you think it would have that many people paying for their service? God you are dumb.

    • Mikey Styles

      A 6-Pack & I’d still hit it!! Lmao hahaha

    • Trevor

I just assumed that was the point.

  • AnotherAndroidKid

This makes no sense network wise though on the surface.

T mobile is testing an Lte network in minnesota.. fyi

    • PC_Tool

      Any idea where?

      • http://profiles.google.com/drastik651 Jim Kalista

In the twin cities area.. close to the midwest headquarters. .they are looking to roll it out next year..

        • PC_Tool

Huh. Wonder how far south that travels. I’m about 30 minutes out from MPLS (South).

Will have to check it out next year.

CDMA can easily be converted to HPSA+ believe it or not. Basically they are gunning for there 1900Mhz(? or 1700MHz cant remember) spectrum they own. As well as that NE USA 10Mhz spectrum. All of this will increase coverage and give Tmo a stepping stone to roll out the LTE bands.

Ive been looking at the Galaxy Note II (as well as the next nexus phone(s)) so i can switch to Tmo and grab myself one of those two phones AND one of the HTC or Nokia windows phones.
I am leaving Verizon for all of this. Tmo looks like its on the right plan to rebounding. And considering I live on the Jersey Shore, I am covered by almost all providers so I dont NEED verizon and their battery sucking 4G which doesn’t seem to give me a solid connection anyways. Even metroPCS has ben in their “Best” coverage area.
This is making it harder and harder to look at my Verizon Nexus and stay with this moneysucker of a company.

    • Diablo81588

I’ve never understood why they would want high frequency spectrum. Look at WiMax for example, indoor coverage is terrible! If Verizon and ATT can get the speeds they do with 700Mhz bands, then whats the advantage to high frequencies? It travels less distance and doesn’t penetrate walls as well…

  • Kyle

This is fantastic news. I am a VZW customer with unlimited data, who will be going to T-Mobile the second VZW takes my unlimited data away. The stronger T-Mobile gets the better!

    • DanWazz

This is my plan when my contact is up and Google doesn’t release a CDMA Nexus.

    • Mikey Styles

I’m through with VZW telling me what’s good for me as a consumer…..Once I’m able to minimize my ETF for 2 lines I’m outty 5000 VZW. Deuces!!

    • Futbolrunner

      Same here!!

    • TheCheapGamer

I gave Verizon my Unlimited Data back today and moved to Tmobile.
I bought the GS3 again too, already the phone seems better. Brightness control with the toggles, true WiFi OFF! and a much faster network (compared to VZW’s 3G)

      • yarrellray

Great move I must say. Leaving Verizon in June was the BEST thing I have ever done. Tmobile is rocking…And has a great future ahead…The UNLIMITED data rocks…

        • michael arazan

Tmobile tried to screw me on fees when I left them for verizon. I had a phone less than a year old they wouldn’t replace after it was broken had power issues, I paid a fee to break my contract and go to a month to month contract they had just started for cheaper text messages, because they change my text contract w/out notifying me. and such. After i tried to leave they tried to hit me with etf after i already paid a large fee to break the contract to be on a month to month plan. I was with them for 7 years and treated me awfully.

    • yarrellray

When I left Verizon June of this year and sold my dreadful Galaxy Nexus with all the data connection issues it had Tmobile was a refreshing place to come to. They have a great network that runs rings around Verizon and it’s cdma lte network. Plus tmobile and it’s ”UNLIMITED DATA” is BOSS my Galaxy S3 is blaring in so many ways now. It’s going to be much more fun 1 month from now when the Galaxy Note 2 will be available on Tmobile that will be a day one purchase for me without fail….Tmobile will also have LTE ADVANCED coming in April 2013 which is far better than any current LTE network out today..And yes tmobile HSPA PLUS network will be backhauled so the best of both hspa plus and lte the Galaxy Note 2 will enjoy…

  • haha

Nice oops i made a pootie face

    • S2556

how do you have negative up votes? haha

  • zaxwashere

    isnt metro cdma?

    • http://www.facebook.com/objection89 Miguel Angel Portela

      Its is.

      • zaxwashere

thats what i thought. Guess the merger would be entirely for 4g then.
