Google Music Receives Update – Jelly Bean Expandable Notifications, Better Google TV Support Included

Google Music received an update this evening. Inside you’ll find expandable notifications if running a device with Jelly Bean, which we have pictured above. Remember, it takes two fingers and you can swipe some notifications up and down in Android 4.1. For Music, you basically get bigger album art and a track back control when expanded. They also tossed in better support for Google TV and a bunch of bug fixes. Part of me thinks there are other goodies tucked inside, but it will take some tinkering to find them.

I am having a problem with Google Music that I am hoping someone can help me with. Ever since Flashing to Bugless Beast, I noticed that I lost all my pictures, music etc. I thought oh well, just need to put them back on my internal storage. However today I sent to my internal storage and all my files are there in my music folder. Even all my old pictures are there, however my phone isn’t picking up the files…Anyone had this issue before? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I like the play music but I wish buying music was easier, like if I want to download a song I can type in the artist and song name but then I have to sort through 50 results to find the original and some times its not even, I fell that there are more versions of a song rather than originals, and if there is one thing android can work on its making things easier on the end user.

But where is jelly bean for my verizon nexus! ugh so enraging

  • Danny Rodriguez

The widget is getting old… they should update that

  • Hakeem Purnell

I love that Kellex is a Lupe Fan!

  • Kevin Bojarski

How about not having to re-download all my offline music each time I change roms

    • Stephen Vanderwarker

Backup the data! 😛 I kept hitting this issue too

  • Until Google permits more than 20,000 tracks in their cloud, doesn’t matter what enhancements they make.

    • JoshGroff

You have more than 60GB (assuming 3MB/song, which is a low ball estimate) of music you need to access from cloud storage?

      • Actually I have 116.34 GB. 21,453 tracks. I’ll continue to use the inferior Amazon Mp3 cloud only because I can access ALL of my music not just part of it.

        • JoshGroff

Dang, that’s a lot of music.

          • I’ve always loved all kinds of music. Had hundreds of albums, then CD’s, now mp3’s. It’s a big part of my life.

          • JoshGroff

Same here, but I only have like 10k songs, most still on my mom’s computer from years ago.(back when Microsoft had their own MP3 file sharing program) Never thought of storing them in the cloud.

          • What really makes me angry is that Google doesn’t even have an option that I can pay to have more space. I would gladly do that, so I’m not sure what their deal is. I know that although the majority of people have less than 20,000 tracks, there are quite a few of us who are over that limit.

          • JoshGroff

Couldn’t you use a PC as a media server and access the music remotely somehow? I know I was considering it for a while but just gave in and started using Dropbox. (which you could pay for the extra space) With a 100GB account and some referrals/video uploads just to get the extra 19GB of free space, and you’re set. I’m still rolling with my free 1-year 50GB from a Sense 3.5 promo or something.

          • I went with Amazon’s service. It’s $20 a year for unlimited music. Plus, they have their own mp3 player app that makes it easy. It’s not too bad, but just not as good as Google Play Music.

          • JoshGroff

Dang, unlimited is hard to beat, lol.

        • summit1986

          Wow… that’s an expensive music collection -.-

    • HotRodJohnson

You could use AudioGalaxy (which was my server of choice before I went to Google Cloud). I don’t have 116 GBs though. AudioGalaxy turns your computer (windows) into a server.

  • Still waiting for it to resume each track where you left off, like PlayerPro, iTunes, etc.

  • TheWenger

    Need. Gapless. Playback.

    • Mallahet

Seriously. Apparently their software engineers don’t listen to music where the entire album is a continuous stream.. Need to introduce them to some.

      • 4n1m4L

I guess I was foolish to assume this was there already

    • TheWenger

Supposedly JB adds support for it, but the Music app doesn’t have it yet.

  • Scott Willenborg

I find that Google Music is great for parties and… and…. wait a second? SMOOCHIE?? You named your N7 SMOOCHIE?

p.s. give your wife/girlfriend back her N7 dude.

    • SMOOCHIE is the name of the WiFi network.

      • JoshGroff

I just leave my WiFi name as the router default. :/

        • Jwhap

Mine is reggae junkie Jew……. I am sure my neighbors are like wtf?…

  • 很多东西都挺实用呢

GMusic deleted all my music, close to 200 songs I had collected and transferred from my D1 before the android market had music. The music had all album pictures and some personal pics sync to a few songs on my gnex. Went to play the music one day and said it couldn’t recognize something and all the songs just disappeared. I have never had a problem with the app ever.
Does the Gmusic app only let you have music bought from the play store now?

    • JoshGroff

I doubt it, but then again I use dropbox to store my music and just sync it to any new device for local playback. (my nexus 7 has 7GB of music, pretty much all I need)

Dream Theater, Evanescence, and Metallica discographies, as well as like 300-400 assorted random songs.

  • DEE

    Can someone upload the wallpaper?

  • I just wish they would have album art show up alongside search results. I have some songs with the same title by different artists, and it’s always a shot in the dark when I go to pick one.

    Props for Lamborghini Angles/Lupe Fiasco.

  • Wow. Lamborghini angels. Amazing song! I like who ever posted this picture

  • I hope they fixed the randomize songs option. Whenever I hit the random icon during a song in a playlist, it always plays in the same queue order.

  • not only can you still not skip back in the widget, but now the widget is 4×2, and the extra row is just blank space. WTF

  • EC8CH

Album art still isn’t displayed at full resolution yet on the N7… hope they get to that one soon, would be nice to take full advantage of this beautiful screen

  • fitim29

Lamborghini Angels is such a dope song!

  • Jagdeep Singh

    lupe fiasco i like it

    • RumbaCembe

kellex has a good taste in music

Can someone tell me why N7 will/does not get updates for Google Apps? I can’t get this or Maps.

    • Custom ROM? Automatic Updates? Mine is unlocked and rooted but stock ROM and I get the updates. Sometimes I think I am not but then I look at version numbers and realize the auto update already happened.

      • Eric

Nope. Same as u stock and rooted. Will not does not update

  • I love in the changelog:

    Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

    • Me!

      How very Daft Punk

  • Eric

Can someone please tell me why I can’t get this or the Google maps update on my N7. I tired thru the link and directly on my N7. It won’t let me at all.

    • I updated mine

  • Good song!

  • Dustin Wen

    Loving the new notifications

    • jelly beans is so smooth, but it is not a big difference like froyo was compare to the early android versions.

  • Stephen Vanderwarker

Please tell me the Google TV support is direct streaming/remote…. Air playish. I would love that. Give my Google TV more use!

    • No nexus q like support but the app actually works. I was having to use an older version before.

      • Stephen Vanderwarker

So like the queue? Just not sure it did! Haha

  • NemaCystX

Your screen looks like a popcorn bag.

    After and Before?
shouldn’t it be Before and After? ….

    • Calm yourself.
      Popcorn is delish.

      • Popcorn = top 5 foods of all time.

        • Popcorn = top 1 😀

          • Justin

I think he means Popcorn is all 5…

          • JoshGroff

            1) Bacon
            2) Popcorn

        • Nice wallpaper 🙂
