Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Ported to Amazon’s Kindle Fire

Want to have some fun with that Kindle Fire you have laying around? Maybe you want to put Jelly Bean on it? You’re in luck, a developer over at XDA has done just that. Sure, a few things are a little broken, but this is why we love Android. WiFi works, so I suppose that is all you really need right off. The ROM itself is beta so don’t be upset if you find things missing here and there. It’s a work in progress. If you feel like giving it a go, follow the via links down below.

I found ICS on the Fire wasn’t that great. I performed decent enough, but the lower res mixed with the not very responsive screen I wasn’t too impressed. However it was so much better then the stock Fire experience.

i actually just sold my Kindle Fire so i could some money towards the Nexus 7. I had Getrom 1.7 ICS w/ hashcode’s 3.0 kernal and it worked great but spec wise, it would be ideal to get the Nexus 7. Plus alot of the KF’s developement seems to be slowing down since the 3.0 kernal was giving them some issues.

That sounds kind of counter productive to port the OS form the device that’s supposed to rival the Kindle Fire TO the Kindle Fire. But I have to agree that this is the beauty of Android!

  Not really. The hardware on both isn’t what’s making the companies money. It’s the content you buy for it. So if this enables you to buy from Google Play instead of from Amazon, I’m sure Google is just as happy with you doing this as buying a new device.

I assume you still can’t use the Play Store since it won’t recognize the Kindle Fire as a supported device. Still, this is what makes owning Android products fun.

  You can still use the play store. Most roms include modified build props to give access to more apps.

Cool, but I’m still selling the Wife’s Fire toward a Nexus 7. Much better hardware and I won’t have to deal with broken/unstable ROMs.
