Soak Tests Starting For Both DROID X2 and DROID 3

This morning, Motorola sent out invites to owners of the DROID X2 and DROID 3 to participate in a soak test for new software. It’s tough to tell what is included in either, especially since we saw an update to 1.3.418 for the DX2 back in February. The DROID 3 on the other hand, has not been updated since September and is long overdue. Neither will be Ice Cream Sandwich, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the D3’s was pretty major.

Let us know if you receive the update!

Cheers J and B!

    Got update
    Killed my root to x2

  • P_S_Chang1

My X2 never got the 1.3.148 update despite my repeated attempts to update. Did anyone else get that? Maybe Verizon is only just now rolling that out?

  • gmars

didnt receive any update on D3 (yet)

I have a Droid X2 but went with CM7 and never looked back. With the latest (CM7.2.0 RC1) this phone is honestly fast as hell. However it is nice to see Motorola still updating it along with the Droid 3. Too bad there’s no chance neither of them will see ICS, not from Motorola anyway.

Has anyone with root accepted the update?

I received the Droid 3 soak test this morning. So far the only difference I’ve noticed is that they’ve improved the camera a bit. It still takes too long to open up IMO, but it takes pictures a bit faster now so that’s good.

Here is the full changelog for the D3 update:

+ Google Security Patch has been added to improve the security level.
+ Fixed issue where the device may power ON without user interaction.
+ Avoid device interruption when accessing an application prior to the storage being fully mounted on the device.
+ Improvements in device stability help avoid device power cycles.
+ When connected to a Bluetooth® headset or HDMI cable, the device will no longer lock up and power cycle.
+ Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System.
+ Device will enter sleep mode successfully.
    Email, Messaging & Data:
    + Swype® defaults to English.
+ Jump to the most recent message after changing the device orientation while in message list view.
    Call Features:
+ Use a wired headset without the interruption of a high pitched tone.
+ Within the notification area, the Visual Voice Mail alert stating the server is not responding after a power-up has been removed.
+ Plus code dialing has been enhanced, improving the experience while traveling.
    Applications and Widgets:
+ Playback media can be heard while using a Bluetooth® headset.
+ Place a call to the appropriate recipient using the contact widget.
+ When moving applications to the SD card, shortcuts to these Apps will remain.
+ Improved performance of Messaging Application after prolonged use.
+ After updating the contact database from the Messaging App, the Messaging UI will display the latest contact information.
+ Purchased ringtones are now able to be downloaded, saved, and used where appropriate.
+ Contact pictures display properly in Google Voice.
+VZ Navigator 3D City is now preloaded.
+ Resolved excessive data usages and continuous downloading for VZ Navigator® 3D City downloads.
+ Successfully post and play videos on Facebook®.
+ Improvements to the camera’s auto focus will reduce the shutter response time and enhance the quality of the captured imagery.

No problem! I’m actually curious to see what the changelog for the X2 entails…I used to have an X2 and liked it at first, but the 2.3 update in August 2011 totally ruined the phone for me. I had constant random reboots on it plus they messed up the battery life indicator after another update in October 2010. I exchanged it 3 times and finally told Verizon to give me another phone so they gave me the D3. Smooth sailing ever since.

So yeah, I would like to see what the X2 changelog is :)

Too late, Motorola. Way too late. The bugs in the D3 lasted far longer than an acceptable timeframe to push an update out. I ditched my D3 and even sacrificed my keyboard when I recently bought my Rezound. Do I miss my keyboard right now? Sure, but it’s not the end of the world and I absolutely love my Rezound and its instant manufacturer dev support upon purchase. You’ll never see me touting another Motorola device after their repeated failures recently. This is coming from a customer that has owned Motorola devices all the way back to the first digital Startac in the mid 90’s.

Thats good news for D3 owners. My wife loves her D3.

    • Sobr0801

My fiance loves hers as well, I upgraded to the Rezound.

I use my DX2 as WiFi only mini tablet but still get included in these updates from motorola since I switched to a GNex and keep my forum account active. I did not get the 418 update and this one still hasn’t shown up. I am hoping that it doesn’t have to be active on a carrier to pull to the update. If I can get the log pulled before someone else I will try to make sure and post it.

  • PyroHoltz

    How large are the updates?

Anyone who grabbed it, feel free to chime in.

  • Knlegend1

Got rid of my D3 for a Razr…hopefully this update makes it a better device.

  • Stephen D

Poor D3. Moto completely screwed over the people who bought them. Glad I got rid of it for a GNex.

  • kretz7

    Got it on my X2

    • http://twitter.com/technorom techno-update

      Any noticeable changes?

      • kretz7

None, other than the bump to 2.3.5. I’m going to replace it as soon as something good comes along.

  • http://twitter.com/SnkBitten SnkBitten

    Yep…it’s downloading now…(Droid 3)

    • mikel61101

Did you copy and paste a changelog for us?

      • http://twitter.com/SnkBitten SnkBitten

No changelog provided with the OTA, just the OTA update.

  • xXAaronSXx

Won’t accept this if it breaks root.

    • http://twitter.com/SnkBitten SnkBitten

Unroots, but the (at least for the Droid 3), the Droid 4 root method works.

  • indyhill

Maybe the phone will finally get semi-stable. I’ve seriously been considering chocking up the money for a new phone. Sick of random restarts, crashes, & sluggishness.

    • azndan4

      That’s Motoblur for you :)

  • Wyatt Conrad

Just checked my D3 and got the update notification. It is downloading now. I’m in Kansas in case it matters. :)

    • http://twitter.com/technorom techno-update

      How did it go?

      • Wyatt Conrad

Without a hitch. I had unrooted my phone a while back (didn’t really do me any good on this thing anyway). System version is now 5.7.906.XT862. I flew past the change log though (stupidly) so I didn’t see what all is addressed with the change.

        • http://twitter.com/technorom techno-update

Oh, so no visual changes? Thanks for replying btw

My Xoom is demanding its update Verizon.

I’m about 2 days away from saying “fook it” and installing AOKP (if I can find instructions that aren’t horrible and contain all broken links)

    • Wyatt Conrad

Installed AOKP on my Wifi Xoom a few days ago. My Xoom has NEVER been this smooth.
