Again, the DROID XYBOARD in Two Sizes is Available Online Today and Via Direct Fill, In Stores December 12

As a Droid Life reader, you probably knew yesterday that the DROID XYBOARD tablets would be up for sale online and via direct fill starting today. Verizon has made it officially official as of this morning though.

The in-store rollout will happen on Monday for those that wish to get their hands on these two new tablets before making a purchasing decision. Both tablets feature top notch specs with 1.2GHz processors, 1GB of RAM, dual cameras, 4G LTE radios, and Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). We wish the prices were a bit lower (starting at $429 on-contract), but this seems to be the method for whatever reason.

DROID XYBOARD Tablets Available Today on America’s Fastest, Most Reliable 4G Network

The DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and DROID XYBOARD 8.2 by Motorola are available online starting today at www.verizonwireless.com. Both tablets will be in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores on Monday, Dec. 12. For a limited time only, customers can take advantage of a special promotion and receive $100 off a DROID XYBOARD tablet with the purchase of a DROID RAZR™ by Motorola with a new two-year customer agreement.

Lighter than a paperback book and thinner than an AAA battery, the DROID XYBOARD tablets feature Android™ 3.2 Honeycomb, the blazing speeds of Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network, enterprise-grade security and the power of dual-core 1.2 GHz processors. Both tablets will be upgraded to Android™ 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Plus, they are equipped with MotoCast™ for remote access to non DRM-protected music, pictures, videos and documents stored on work or home computers’ hard drives. DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and 8.2 customers can soar through the Web at blazing download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps within 4G LTE Mobile Broadband coverage areas.

  • The DROID XYBOARD 10.1 will be available in three models: 16 GB for $529.99 and 32 GB for $629.99. The 64 GB model will be available online for $729.99. All three with a new two-year customer agreement.
  • The DROID XYBOARD 8.2 will be available in two models: 16 GB for $429.99 and 32 GB for $529.99, both with a new two-year customer agreement.
  • Customers that purchase a DROID XYBOARD tablet will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband data plan starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.

Does anyone else think this is an abortion of a name for a tablet?

  • Kylebrodeur

    Here’s another Galaxy Nexus comment…

Verizon needs to postpone these products and release the Nexus on the 12 instead of this poorly named tablet.

  • Guest

WOW….Epic FAIL!!! If you buy this you must hate money. Plus why buy a tablet tied to a carrier? Get a hotspot and you’re good.

  • Anonymous

I think they said why bother coming up with a good name when we’ll just replace it in 2 months any way.

  • Cam

Just keep slapping us in the face Verizon. We’ll keep taking it.

I thought Motorola would’ve learned from their mistakes from Atrix and Xoom… guess not!!!  The CEO of Motorola should be fired for making three screw ups in the row!!!

  • Kdkinc

Who warranties  this  P. T. Barnum
“There’s a sucker born every minute”

  • Eric Franca

Wow, I’m not sure I’ve seen such an epic pricing fail in my life. The “subsidized” costof the 32GB 10″ Xy is nearly the same price of a 32GB, quad-core, un-“subsidized”, superior-in-every-way Prime with the dock. Embarrassment. #yourenoteventrying

  • Wheelhouse19

This is the dumbest and ugliest tablet I’ve ever seen…not to mention horrible naming and branding.

Verizon – nobody cares about anything except the Nexus…fix the issues and release the damn thing already. Droid 4 this, Razr that…nobody cares.

You have a new flagship phone – start selling it.

Thanks Kellex, but I get the feeling those tablets are not exactly going to be flying off the shelves.

    Oh hey look.
Verizon/Motorola are selling drink tablet coasters now!
Thank goodness that I wont need all these old CD’s anymore to keep water rings off of my table.

  • Sdg7

I guess this DID come out before the Nexus. Damn hahahaa

  • Dsjfksjdlf2

Lol @ Kellex and his “Again” like he’s getting frustrated about being right all the time or something.  Dude, you’re like 1-954 as far as predictions go…don’t flatter yourself.

    • Yo_dog

      lol  +1

  • FortitudineVincimus

I think XYBOARDS are what the Asus Prime poops out

    • Anonymous

Saying that is being way to generous on the behalf of the Xyboard.

  • Thelegendofdavid

Thank god this is coming out soon. im almost out of toilet paper

    • Sdg7

i know right? i was going to buy this stuff on a 2 year contract, but buying toilet paper off-contract makes more sense. ya know, just in case

      • Thelegendofdavid

        I hear ya!!!!

        • Thelegendofdavid

How many do you think will be sold in 6 months. i predict around 3000.

          • kretz

you’re way off man, there will be a lot more toilet paper sold than that in 6 months..

          • Mctypething

Less than that. Why would anyone buy this? It has the same specs as the XOOM, so if you want a tablet and do 5 minutes of research, you’ll realize you can have a XOOM for much cheaper. I don’t see how they sell more than 1,000 of these, total.

          • Anonymous

Because some idiots will buy anything with the Droid label on it. *le sigh*

          • Guest

like moto nut hugger & cum sucker angelFAGGIT77.

          • Sdg7

            12. One for each of the developer’s moms.

    • Anonymous

At least you wont have to worry about pointy corners poking your gentle bits. So there is that I guess.

  • bigrob60

Why get this tablet when the Prime is coming out.

    • Anonymous

Gives people options, nothing wrong with that

      • bigrob60

I’m not saying this tablet never should have been made. Just given the choice why this over the Prime. Not including 4g b/c that is a major selling point for a lot of people. Besides, I’m a Libra and can’t make up my mind. So choice is my nemesis. LOL.

        • XoomLover

Don’t worry, after this tablet bombs Motorola will get out of the tablet business.

          • bigrob60

Oh I’m not worried at all.

    • Anonymous

      Why get this tablet?

      • bigrob60

How long before Apple files suit?

  • Anonymous

Wow.. those don’t even look like Subsidized prices.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YCWHBKUI22NNEB4J4PUK6VY3SQ ds fsdfds

Who cares? This tablet is terrible and way overpriced.

  • Anonymous

Who wants a contract with a tablet?

    • Anonymous

I’d get a contract with a tablet if the tablet wasn’t ridiculously overpriced like these. Would be perfect to have a 7-8inch tablet on the go at all times… Tethering is useless on the Go because you’re killing your phone battery at a rapid pace.

      • Anonymous

That’s funny because at first I included “at this ridiculous price” in my question and then took it out.  If the tablet were like $200 with a contract I could see people doing it.

Anybody else notice how the devices people really care about can’t seem to get announced and released in a reasonable amount of time?

    *cough* PRIME *cough*
