The Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update for the DROIDX2 is live right now for everyone to download. To pull the update, simply do the following:

Cheers Tpags for the heads up!
My Droid X2 in action and on KHOU channel 11 news in Houston Tx
Update has improved my phone in so many ways. Couldnt be happier. Although i will still be trading in my x2 for the bionic on the release…
Now that I have TB on my dx2, how can I tether to my xoom? I would use easy switch lite before the update.
I installed the update last night, and the slight lagginess I had before is gone, if your x2 is still sluggish after this update, then there is something wrong..my phone flies! I noticed they changed the icons in the notification bar, so the pentile screen looks better…i really like my phone..
First fail… factory reset the phone, downloaded the update, clicked to install the update… Phone rebooted and said UPDATE FAILED!
Re-downloading the update. How try #2 goes a little better!
I have tried 4 times…… Keeps saying install failed! This is bull shit…
I honestly am begininging not to care about any Gingerbread release until it has the name Thunderbolt in it.
Mine worked. Downloaded GB today about an hour ago seems good so far. Time will tell.
Got it! Phone still a little sluggish , but better.
I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2 (64GB) and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com
updated this am. so far so good. snappier response and operation.
So again, the soak test did nothing to address the problems. Waste of time.
OK, so when is Droid 2′s??
It’s glorious! Thanks
It has also been brought up to VZ in their forums, they’ve read it, and have told people that they haven’t heard about the issue…even though folks have linked to the Moto forum with 19 pages of complaints.
Just got GB installed on my X2. Feels a bit snappier, but it’s not a huge difference. What really bugged me before was the overshoot of swiping between the home screens – that was always choppy – well that’s gone now.
Congrats DX2 owners, looks like everyone is still forgetting about us poor froyo having TB owners. :(
Yes, we are trying really, really hard to forget the TB. Verizon did.
I got it. It seems to work fine. My device is much faster now. What do you mean new battery percentage indicator?
Installing now. Finally!
Downloaded mine at 3:30am this morning. Took 30-40 minutes to download on 3G and about five minutes to install. Everything seems much snappier, no redraws, battery life seems to be better, quadrant scores actually went down(?), music still isn’t perfect, but is 110% better, so for me it is great, lock screen lag is gone, apps, notification bar, lock bar, etc are larger like they should be, no 3D Blur=no nice new lockscreen (I was looking forward to that new lockscreen!!), force closes seem to have disappeared, battery meter updates while charging either while the phone is on or off like it should….all in all it made my phone much faster and more stable than how it was on release day when I picked it up. I am let down how it was released not very long before the DROID 3 and didn’t get 2.3.4 like it did with the new UI, but at least now it works more like a dual core should. BTW I haven’t had a chance to compare it directly to my dad’s DX so I will later and post what I find.
Yeah, I like the music skipping issue, too.
All well and good, but where is the Gingerbread fix for the original Droid X? We’re dying here!
Dude, the update was two months ago for the DX. No reason to expire.
I think he means a fix for the update that came out 2 months ago. Many complain of problems.
My fix was to keep replacing DX’s until Verizon eventually sent me a DX2. The Verizon reps are either completely ignorant or incompetent – they claim there are no known problems with GB on the DX. Even a quick Google search proves otherwise.
The new update caused many more problems than it was worth. Random rebooting, freezing, broken functionality. It was a disaster. Verizon actually prevented Moto from applying the same update to the Droid 2 and X2 until it had more bug fixes.
yes, its called liberty GB V0.6
I never clicked accept on my phone to get the update and now it seems to be downloading this automatically, I am rooted and would rather not update right now as I am waiting on a gingerbread ROM to come out. Is there any way to stop this? I have my phone in airplane mode right now to turn off all the data and what not so the download can’t continue but is there any way to go in and actually stop this?
Find an app in system/apps called blur updated. Rename it.
In keeping with the spirit of these posts, I cannot wait to get Gingerbread on my Bell System Rotary…

Once I updated my phone my corporate Sync doesnt seem to be working anymore. I just keep getting “Could not connect to the server.”
Motorola receives a lot if hate but they get Gingerbread out before the Thunderbolt, Incredible, Revolution and Charge. Isn’t one of people’s biggest complaints the long time it takes to get updates? Good on Motorola here.
They may get GB out before anyone else, but they certainly didn’t get it *right* before anyone else, which is far more important than beating everyone else out of the gate. Just ask the DX users who are now 2 months into GB and have to reboot their phone every day just to place calls…with no fix or response from Moto other than “have you tried a factory reset” and “we’ll look into it”.
It’s finally starting to get some attention… http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/07/droid-x-update-problems/
you can also ask the people that have ZERO problems with the gingerblur on DX. my battery life was extended by like 4-6 hours, the UI is visually better. i dont need to restart my phone to make calls. everything on it just WORKS. so yeah, you can also ask us.
when things dont work, that makes news. when things do work, nobody makes a big deal out of it because it should. there are far MORE people that have no problem with their dx on gingerblur than the people that are having a problem with it
I am very happy that everything works for you, and I wish that was the case for myself and others because the issue is very frustrating.
Moto has had two months to respond to this, and if they had, this wouldn’t have been news. When things don’t work, and it happens for hundreds of people, and there’s no response, it SHOULD be news. Just because it’s not a concern for some folks doesn’t discredit the complaints of those who it’s not working for. When your phone no longer functions as a phone, it’s a major problem that they (Moto) should have front and center regardless of the fact that it works for some people.
I think many of us who reported the issue directly to Moto love our DXs and were more than willing to wait for a fix, but at some point, when there’s no response or solution, the willingness goes away.
I had a friend update his and it made his phone nearly useless. Radio stops working so he doesn’t get calls or texts. His corporate sync stopped working so his calendar never updates. Also gets the random reboot all the time.
The radio issue is a known problem. Data will suddenly stop working randomly. Also, when you switch to wifi for a few minutes or more then back to normal 3g the radio won’t turn on. Obvious problems that shouldn’t have left the test group.
If they had open betas for their updates they could easily get things right, quickly. I guess it’s cool that they lock down the bootloader though. Oh yeah, before you say run a custom ROM, it’s a kernal issue mostly. All the ROMs running on that kernal have radio issues too. CM7 runs on the Froyo kernal.
Another reason I wont buy a Motorola again.
I still have an old Froyo rom on my my sons DX and he likes it just fine the way it is. He wont let me update it! Maybe that’s a good thing.
The radio problem is gingerbread its like the battery setting that is probably set to battery saver which turns off the radios when you lock your phone…Might want to check that outl..
That’s not the issue, the issue is that the system doesn’t properly handle the hand-off from Wifi to 3G data, or even from 1X to 3G data. Once this failed hand-off occurs, you can’t get back to 3G or place calls without rebooting the phone…no Airplane mode, no turning Wifi back on/off, no disabling 3G/Sync, no “sleep mode” then back, no “Battery Saver” mode, nothing works…it’s reboot or nothing. Plenty have tried… https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/52111?start=0&tstart=0
My DX with GB on it runs smoother and faster then my DX2. I may switch back…
Its hit or miss tho because my droid x with gingerbread runs great and so do my friends
They also don’t have to worry about an update that functions with 4g
I have the incredible but dont see the update
P.s my phone is not rooted
it’s for the MOTO DX2, not the Incredible……..but I heard if u click on “SYSTEM UPDATES” in “settings/about phone” 5 times every other hour for a day straight it will convert the update to the Incredible for u……oh, and it will also only work if u have a red or black case on your phone, hopefully u have 1 of those colors…..Weird, but should work, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
I tried to follow your instructions on my old Motorola bag phone but I can’t even find anywhere to click on system updates because it only has buttons. The case is black and it is fake leather I think.
Yes, well … What you need to do is grab the update when released here for download, then flash it to your phone. Make sure it is the Mets version or it won’t go through.
That’s funny, my iPhone isn’t getting the update either. lol
LMFAOOOOOOOOOO You made my day!
ya neither is my razr…
I did the update as soon as I woke up. I was rooted on 2.2 and forgot to un-root. The OTA actually went through just fine but I lost root. Gingerbreak does not work on 2.3 OTA. Hope that gets changed
ota fail < P3Droid rooted gb
Once i got gb on my original droid it is superfast many people complain that its running slow just call verizon and tell them that ur actual phone its not working good with gingerbread they will send u another one i have asked for 2 already because the data and time tend to dissapear and then appear once again. I am also using stock gingerbread and my X is a beast
Droid Charge by November?
I believe the Charge is too old and under-powered to get GB
I hope that was a joke. No body can be that dumb, can they?
Yes. I forgot the lol for those that took it seriously.
Why do people still buy phones with the PROMISE of an OS update from Verizon. Haven’t we all learned by now that if you buy a Froyo phone you will be stuck with Froyo, and Verizon has no obligation to provide an update?
Still waiting for it on Droid 2…. one of these days…
Thanks for the update on your Droid2. Keep us posted on your feelings captain. lol
Motorizon seems to be pushing out updates fairly quickly once they get started. I really can’t want for Android 4.0/Ice cream sandwich now, 2.3.3 on my DX1 is meh, feels slower compared to Froyo but I don’t know what I can do about that. I know I can sbf back to it but not sure how to stop the update notification that wants to keep popping up if I downgrade. I hope they release another update soon since I think they were supposed to be working on one because of all the bad reports that were rolling in shortly after Gingerbread launch. I have longer start up times and just general laggyness when it comes to 2.3.3.
Install an old Froyo rom and it will block updates.
yeah, the phone seems to be more solid now, it feels smother
yeah… google did good with gingerbread… it made my og droid run as well as medium level newer phones and it’s almost 2years old
A lot of thanks for all of the effort on this site. Ellie enjoys going through investigations and it’s easy to see why. My partner and i notice all concerning the lively means you deliver sensible tips and tricks by means of your web site and in addition attract participation from other ones on that matter so our own child has been becoming educated a lot of things. Have fun with the rest of the year. You are always performing a really good job.
Almost just gave in and bought the DX2. But, when doing side by side speed comparisons, the DX2 w/GB and my DX running liberty, my DX loaded droid-life faster and also started playing two you tube videos faster. So where is all that extra on the DX2? Guess im back to “soon” again.
The screen is better on the DX too. I hate my pentile screen.
This thing runs like it should have from the beginning! And a shout out from droid-life. Hellz to the yeah!!
Beware its made my dx2 run like crap, was good at first but 2 days later it runs very hot and slow
You probably have a stuck app or sync. I’d do a battery pull and verify under battery statistics that your phone isn’t in a constant awake state. If it is, you have a poorly performing app that you’ll have to figure out and remove or fix.
Did a factory reset and didn’t reinstall any apps and it still does the same thing. I was one of the first to get the update not sure how as I never sighted up for the soak test.
So it runs hot like the DX GB update? Does it have radio issues requiring a hard reset too? GB killed my DX. Thankfully CM7 is running like a charm.
Still waiting on that upgrade for the D2….what’s going on Moto?
