SPB Mobile Shell 5.0 is Your 3D UI Replacement, Sign Up to Test It

Anyone interested in signing up to test a new Android UI?  A company called SPB Software has created what looks to be more than just a home replacement and may fall in line with the experience we once hoped for from TAT Home.  It’s a “3D” experience and from the video below, actually looks fairly impressive, especially when you see how quickly it responses to any on-screen gesture.  Let’s just hope they actually allow more than 10 NDA’d people to test it.

Sign up for the beta.

Haven't heard back from them, has anyone got this yet?

o sweet. I want this on my droid. But they said its a “multiplatform solution”. So since it works on many different devices then could I possibly download it on an ipod touch or iphone? Oh wait. I forgot. Iphones and other apple devices aren't open source and don't allow homescreen replacements like android phones do.

  • Jakepenumbra

It was pretty cool on the HTC TouchPro 2, but laggy. Would like to see it on the DX.

  • gobluefoot

Crazy how many of us had the Omnia, I thought I was the only one who got suckered into that phone. I had to dupe Verizon into letting me out of my contact early to get the DROID 1, and have never looked back.

That being said, I shelled out the bucks for the SPB for the Omnia, and it definitely improved my user experience at the time, so I'm gonna have to try this out.

I dont like it, ugh, it looks way too much like a pocketpc , gingerbread is actually pretty now :)

  • Bs_thinker

These guys made winMo useful. Will be interesting to see how they do in the droid world

  • Sparticus_78

Combine that with the DS 3-D screen and u have a bad a$$ phone.

  • Josh

Bought that interface for $29.99 on my old win mobile 6 phone. It was so slow. It looked nice, but wasn't very practical. Really it just over complicated simple tasks that the traditional Android homescreen launcher accomplishes perfectly.

  • rjoudrey

TAT never claimed to sell to consumers, SPB does.

  • rockymtnhigh

PASS. I used their stuff on WIndows Mobile 6 (gasp!) and while it was ok, it was just ok. Just as the 3D app launcher has gone away for most of us, this 3D launcher isn't going to win me over.

  • Timoh

TAT smells like SPB. SPB has been making their shell for a long time. Just not for Android. Former Omnia/SPB MS user.

    I signed up

I did as well. Under about me I wrote “I'm an atheist and I like scotch”

  • El El Kool J

Looks nice.. Is definitely worth trying out.. we will see if I can get a test drive.. :P

  • machinegun68

Smells like TAT like you say, but apparently these guys actually do something with it other than talk about it and post videos for a year with no product.

  • Chris Nimon

Now that is one sweet UI. I'll have to put that into my top 3 things im waiting for from Android.

  • Tex

Used this last year whem I had WM, liked it a lot then..

  • FortitudineVincimus

looks badass.. that is what I want in a phone GUI

  • http://twitter.com/teardropcity matt wheeler

I remember these guys from the 2 days I had a WM phone. Just signed up for the beta. We shall see.

  • Towelie420

Totally unrelated but why does the droid x seem slower on 3g than I remember my droid1 being.?

    • Droiddownfall

Cause its trash iphone 4 life

      • James_Murphy

        LOL TROLL.

        • ObsidianGT

          Don't feed the trolls!

      • Adecker246

If you love your little iPhone so much why do you sit and troll on a DROID site?! This is not rhetorical.

  • Erick

Granted Windows Mobile was pretty bad, but then again, there weren't many competitors on the market back then. SPB Mobile was probably one of the best UI overlays for Windows Mobile back in the day and I still have an old Samsung Omnia that still has that as it's overlay before giving it up for the Motorola Droid. This beta would be well worth getting into!

  • mdonova33

For the love of god, if anyone gets in, post the APK!

    • Keithsmnr

Yes, let't not make this another TAThome repeat :(

  • CIFchamp24

It better be more impressive than it was on the Windows Mobile phone I had for a week

  • Frencha

60fps is music to my eyes!

  • http://www.gogats.com/ b

    smells like TAT

    • kellex

      Indeed it does.

  • Dariusclark73

I love there apps for window mobile. Hopefully itk be better

  • Greg

Yeah..Lets hope when they say beta: It's not 10 people like you said. That or Blackberry buys them and never uses them *tathome*.

Regardless. I signed up twice just because. I'll be surprised if I hear from them in a month or two..when it's become irrelevant to me again.

  • Drew_VA

Looks awesome. I feel like it would kill the battery on my D1 though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000091236277 Darius Sumpter

Doesn’t anything already kill the D1 battery. =/
Mine wont last 1/2 a day on standby hardly…

These guys are the best developers of UI (among other things) in the WM world. Back when I had a WM device, half my software on it were from SPB.

    • kellex

      Good stuff to know. :)

    • richlost

I also ran it on my Omnia….. That phone was almost unusable without it.

      • Kusheil

I used it on my omnia as well. It was awesome! Bit spendy if I remember right but worth it in the end.

  • 1bad69z28

3D Cool, I can''t wait to get my glasses on and feel like I'm really part of the action lol

  • tbaybe

    looks sweet~

  • ohiobuckeye7

Looks like it could be cool. Might give it a try
