Asurion Launching Mobile Recovery App, Get it Early Here

The posse hanging out in the Droid Life Forums have discovered a way to grab the new Mobile Recovery app which should be available on 9/16 as a part of your Total Equipment Coverage with Asurion.  The app might be due to launch officially on Thursday, but you can snag it today if you want by visiting the link below from your device:

http://www.getmymr.com/download (or this link to grab an apk for each supported phone)

Supposedly you need to have TEC on your plan for this to work, but it let me right in.  Of course I didn’t actually read the terms and conditions which might be a good idea since there is a chance I just opted into the coverage.  Whoops.

Here are some of the features of the app:

  • Sound an alarm from a misplaced phone, even if it’s set to silent
  • Locate a lost phone on a map, with turn-by-turn directions
  • Lock a lost or stolen phone to ensure your privacy
  • Remotely erase contacts from a lost or stolen phone
  • Available at no added cost with Verizon Wireless Total Equipment Coverage

So it’s basically like WaveSecure or Lookout, but comes free with TEC and appears to be a pretty solid app.  I just asked it to find my location and it couldn’t have been more spot on.  Might be worth a look, especially if you have TEC on your plan.

And once you get signed up with the app, head to the MR site:  https://www.mymobilerecovery.com/

Cheers Rollo and the DL Forums!

    are you cell phone company

  • jeesung

i think they're on to us. i just got a text messages saying:

FREE MSG – Your Mobile Recovery service will terminate in 3 days. Your phone is not enrolled in Equipment Coverage. Call *611 to enroll.

    Stop2quit, HELP4info.

  • gunkle

says in the instructions that you need to have a password set on your phone for the remote lock to work.

  • Mobile Security works for me. And it's free. Unless you lose phones a lot, TEC is generally a waste of money. In 10 years of cellphone ownership I've lost exactly 1 phone: on an amusement park ride in 2005.

  • Mikelbrady

Be VERY careful with this app. It requires SMS on your account. It will send an SMS for each of the functions (locate, sound alarm, etc…). Just using the location feature set to 30 minute interval will be 48 messages per day. That's 1440 messages per month. If you aren't on an unlimited or 5000 message plan, you are looking at a HUGE bill for using this app. We block SMS here, but I turned it on for my phone to test this app. If I used the pay per message method, I would pay $288 per month just to know the location of the phone.

  • Lock the phone via mymobilerecovery.com — phone asks for PIN to unlock. I pushed Home and it took me to my home screen. Sweet security! 😛

  • Todd_Anthony

Any one else thinking this is a sure fire way to track down who's rooted.

  • Joey

“Locate a lost phone on a map, with turn-by-turn directions”

That would have been useful when my wife was cheating on me. Dumb b!tch.

    • Am0795

      Ssrry to hear.

  • Chavan

I just use the where's my Droid app. It's good and simple, I don't need anything to lock my phone because it locks automaticaly with the pattern lock so that's secure, all I use it for is for it to ring when I misplace my phone at home and it always sends me the location of my phone by just sending a text, its very accurate and turns on the GPS.

  • All the people here that are having the unrecognized device problem you just have to use the build prop mods that were posted earlier this week. it also fixes apps missing from the market

  • Bandroidx

does this app do wiping? otherwise why does it need access to so much stuff? i couldnt get past the permissions screen.

  • Mftunn
  • Ruikenshin

Unrecognized device error… I'm thinking that It's not working with the (leaked) 2.2 that majority of us are using… smh

    • Am0795

      Exactly the problem im having

      • Trellzxassassin

yeah same here. . . is there a fix ? (i just got the legit 2.2)

  • Barlog

I downloaded to my stock 2.1 DX and it works fine. Locates my phone spot on. I can't believe that an app coming from Verizon is really free!

  • Xraytedjim

I get a 'Failed to send request' error. Doesnt work for me. Droid x 2.2 (2nd leak) rooted. Boooooo

  • musicandnumbers

    Unrecognized device…2.2 rooted

  • Am0795

Any suggestions? It says uncrecognized device…droid x 2.2 not rooted.

  • I should of bought this insurance, I got the insurance off WireFly…. 70 bucks a year which is not bad

  • Socalrailroader

I just downloaded and installed it on my X, but when I fire it up it says “Unrecognized device. Please try again later”. I have the TEC with Verizon, so I'm not sure why it's doing that.

  • DroidXIsAmazing

Do you need GPS to be already on in order to locate it on the map…or can it remotely turn on GPS then relay the device's location? Thanks Kellex.

  • Patch89esch

i wished it backed up your data like lookout does.

  • Sigmundroid

This app will take ANY information (public or private) and give it to 3rd party
    affiliates…I wouldn't use this…just a warning.

    Mobile Defense is much better.

    • JubbaTheHutt

That's great and all, but Mobile Defense isn't even on the market, and Beta is currently closed 🙁

      • villian1998

I can send anybody that want's the apk, but you have to sign up for an account on their website.

        • JubbaTheHutt

I already tried that. Unfortunately, even installing the APK won't do you any good unless you were successfully registered with them BEFORE they closed the Beta.

Unless you are willing to give someone your sign-in info, this is a no-go 🙁

    • you must have an empty phone, considering that most apps require information of sorts.

  • toroman

what do i enter for pin no.?

  • Mjm1996

    It works great!

  • Rain_king46

Worked just fine on my rooted 2.2 Droid X with TEC. Still rooted even. haha

  • NKTizzle

Mobile Defense + Handcent = Perfect free device tracking/recovery/remote wipe 🙂

    • Coaster36

you cant remote wipe with mobile defense. At least with the version thats in the public right now. 2.0 might have that feature but no one has that yet.

Mobile defense is better then this app ill give you that though. if its installed as a system app its invisible to outsiders. Its great.

  • Ihaveahachi

Doesn't support my rooted 2.2. Droid x with $7.99 tec asurion plan….says unrecognized phone. Please try again later

    • Rain_king46

Worked just fine on my rooted 2.2 Droid X with TEC. Still rooted even. haha

    • Mrpilikia

On my unrooted 2.2 Droid X I got the same “Unrecognizable device” error message.

      • Edjm711

same here. unrooted DX 2.2 says unrecognized device

        • gunkle

you need to use the build.prop edit for missing market apps and then it will recognize. Same on mine till I did that and all is good.

  • Twelfth!!

    • B-Do

      You beat me to it!

    • Bandroidx

  • joe

do u have to keep GPS on for it to work?

    • Rain_king46

For the location feature to work, yes. It would be more useful if you could force it on from the website. As it is, if somebody stole your phone, if they were smart enough to shut off gps, you wouldnt be able to find them. You could still however lock the phone, clear your contacts, and make the device alarm.

  • RoadsterHD1

can't you do the same thing with latitude.

  • RoadsterHD1

    whats TEC?

    • TEC = Total Equipment Coverage: an additional cost per month that extends the manufacturer's warranty and also allows you to replace the phone even if abused.

  • It's about time they made their service actually worth something. :-/

  • Legacy23

I use wavesecure and have been using it for a while now and it works like a charm for me. Seems to do everything this program does and more.

  • Rain_king46

Will they be able to tell our phone is rooted from this app?

    • kellex

      I highly doubt it.

      • Flyinion

lol I can see it now. It will check to see if it can get root access and if so, it will “phone home” and tell Big Red.

    • Frankson03

lls,, right,, will they,, cuz its pointless if they can..

      • Stephen D

        Um what?
