Gear S3 Watches Get Big Value Pack Update With Better Fitness Tracking, Updated UX

Samsung is pushing a big Value Pack update to its Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic watches today. In fact, a number of our readers have already received the update, so if you own either, be sure to check.

So what’s in it? Quite a bit of stuff!

For one, Samsung says that the fitness portion of the Gear S3 experience has been “completely transformed.” That means advanced, real-time heart rate monitoring that has been improved, better controls over weight, and an experience that lets you use the Samsung Health Fitness Program to watch workouts on a nearby TV and also see your vitals.

On the communications side of things, Samsung made searching and creating contacts easier, as well as events with date, time, reminder alerts, and locations. Additionally, users will be able to edit and view checklists, sort of like you have been able to do in Google Keep on Android Wear for years.

Finally, Samsung added more power to each device’s rotating bezels. Now, you can rotate quicker or slower to view more information at a time (kind of like zooming). Think about watch faces or widgets, where you might want to compare 3 or 4 on your screen at once rather than just seeing one at a time.

Again, the update is rolling out now and weighs in at roughly 257MB and should be Tizen 3.0.

On a related note, the Gear S3 Classic and Frontier are heavily discounted at Best Buy right now and can be had for $70 off.
