Dell Venue 8 7840 Unboxing and Hands-on

After months of anticipation, we now have the Venue 8 7840 from Dell in our possession. Teased back in late 2014, the tablet is purchasable by anyone on Dell’s website (or Best Buy), priced at $399 for 16GB. While the storage may seem a tad low, Dell spared no expense when it came to the design and feel of the device, giving it a 8.4″ OLED QHD display, featuring a resolution of 2560 x 1600.

Powering the 6mm thin slate is an Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Other specs include a 2MP front-facing camera, three cameras on its backside for a combined resolution of 8MP, 802.11 ac WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, microSD card support (up to 512GB of capacity), and runs Android 4.4.4 out of the box.

As a note, be aware that Dell’s Gallery software for 3D imaging and depth sensing is currently unavailable to buyers, as Dell has a few more software tweaks to make. Once they are complete, an OTA will be pushed to users.

While we give this tablet the runaround, testing it for our full review, check out our unboxing and hands-on below. If you have questions, be sure to shoot them below in the comments section.

Let’s get to it.
