Samsung’s Milk VR App Showcases Virtual Reality Videos

Samsung retailed the Gear VR earlier this month, but a perceptible dearth of content makes the $199 smartphone accessory a difficult sell. In part to remedy this unfortunate state (and perhaps placate early adopters), Samsung released Milk VR today, a showcase of 360-degree, virtual reality videos.

Currently in technical preview, Milk VR – an addition to Samsung’s Milk-branded ecosystem – offers gratis streaming and downloadable clips. The available videos, which are about ten minutes in length and split up into categories like music, action, and sports, are the first of what Samsung says are many. The company hopes to grow Milk VR into a veritable creative platform, a sort of YouTube for virtual reality.

Will Samsung’s vision ever be realized? It is too early to say right now, but at the very least, new VR apps – even relatively unpopular ones – are hardly something to complain about.
