While Instagram continues to improve on its new sidekick app Hyperlapse for iOS devices, they have now spoken about the app’s future on Android. If you had hopes to see Hyperlapse come to Android in the near future, prepare to be saddened.
According to a brief statement made to The Verge, Instagram states that Android currently lacks “prerequisite APIs” necessary to run Hyperlapse on Google’s mobile OS. In short, until Google makes these APIs available, Android users will remain out in the cold.
Here is the full statement, albeit rather short and vague.
We hope to bring Hyperlapse to Android in the future. Unfortunately, the requisite APIs are not currently available on Android.
As for which APIs Instagram needs to make the app work, Hyperlapse needs specific data from the video decoder at a newly specified rate to create the hyperlapse effect.
