Sony Z Ultra Also Introduced as a Google Play Edition, Starts at $649

Moments after going live with the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition, Google also went live with a white Nexus 7 and the Sony Z Ultra GPE. The Sony Z Ultra is most widely known as the Xperia Z Ultra, a massive 6.4-inch device that also runs a Snapdragon 800 processor. We’re talking 342ppi with a resolution of 1920×1080 that uses “similar” technology to a Sony Bravia TV.

It also sports an 8MP shooter with EXMOR sensor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD slot, 3000mAh battery, and is somehow only 6.5mm thick and 212 grams light in a waterproof body.

The device comes SIM unlocked and should work on both T-Mobile and AT&T without an issue (GSM 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz). As far as LTE bands go, the Z Ultra GPE supports 4G LTE (700, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100, 2600 MHz).

In terms of software, Sony’s entire Android skin is gone in favor of stock Android 4.4 (Kit Kat).
