Qualcomm Announces the Snapdragon 660, Snapdragon 630

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 mobile platforms this week, both created to offer high-end performance, battery life, advanced photography, and fast LTE speeds for devices designed to be affordable by most people.

According to Qualcomm, both platforms focus on 7 key areas: Camera, Audio-Visual processing, Connectivity, Improved CPU and GPU, Quick Charge 4, Security, and Machine Learning. Both the SD 660 and SD 630 use a 14nm FinFET process, providing 4K video capture and playback capabilities, as well as 8GB maximum memory and Vulkan API support. As for display support, the Snapdragon 660 supports displays up to QHD resolution, while the SD 630 supports FHD/QXGA.

One area to point out is Quick Charge 4. With that, phones can get 50% of their battery juiced up with only 15 minutes of charging. That’s impressive.

As announced by Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 660 is already shipping to OEMs, while the SD 630 will begin shipping towards the end of this month.
