Refreshed Xperia smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches aren’t all Sony announced at IFA. As predicted, the company revealed the QX1 and QX30, the successors to its QX100 and QX10 attachable camera accessories for smartphones.
The QX1’s rumored specifications proved largely on point, as the QX1 features an E-mount for interchanging lenses and a 10.1 megapixel APS-C size Exmor CMOS sensor. The QX30, on the other hand, was somewhat unexpected, featuring a 21-megapixel zoom lens with up to 30x magnification. Not bad for a snap-on shooter.
As with their predecessors, the QX1 and QX30 are controlled through Sony’s PlayMemories application via Wi-Fi direct. Photos can be stored either locally on a microSD card, or transferred to the connected smartphone.
Neither lens comes cheap, though. The QX1 mount is up for pre-order through Sony’s store for $399.99 (not including lenses), and the QX30 will launch on October 8 for $349.99. However, at those prices, photo dilettantes might want to consider something more substantial.
