New Droid X Pictures Leaked

Needed further confirmation that one of the new Motorola Android devices is now officially the Droid X by Motorola?  Check out the pictures we just received from Gadget University…

No AMOLED.  4.3 inches of goodness.  DROIDX.  New MotoBlur.  Who’s even more excited for this device now?  According to today’s poll, it looks like a ton of you are.  And check out that top pic again…might be the prettiest we’ve seen yet.  Wow.  Sorry Droid 2, it looks like we’ve found our follow-up device.

Verizon Drops Motorola Droid Price, Xtreme Release Imminent?

Seven months later and Verizon finally drops the price of the Motorola Droid to $149.99 on contract.  Does this mean that the Droid X (Xtreme) or Droid 2 are ready to be announced?  We’ve talked about a possible Father’s Day release, but figured July seemed more likely after hearing new hints from our sources.  And since the Xtreme has been leaking out for some time now, and we were the first to show you the Droid 2 only yesterday, I would bet that the we’ll see the newly named “Droid X” within a few weeks.

Cheers thejupiter!

Friday Poll: Droid X or Droid 2?

Last week we brought you some exclusive shots of the Droid Xtreme (Droid X?) and just yesterday gave you the first ever shots of the Motorola Droid 2.  So you know what happens now, right?  We want to know which one you’d buy?  Droid 2 or Droid X?  And remember, the rumor is that they’ll both be released in July, so this could be a real decision for you in just a couple of weeks.

We sort of asked you this same question a few weeks ago…I’m guessing the results may be a little different this time around.

Droid Xtreme Officially Becomes Droid X?

How many times is this damn device going to change names?  The guys over at Phandroid just got a hold of some shots from what appears to be a Verizon marketing system.  The shots all clearly state that our pal the Droid Xtreme, is actually the Droid X by Motorola.

From the shots below you’ll see a couple of interesting tidbits…

  • 4.3″ screen. NOT 4.1″.  (Just like we said.)
  • Browser type “Safari.”  Huh?  Is that a type-o?

And head over to Phandroid to see the rest of the shots.

Exclusive: First Photos of the Motorola Droid 2

Well, hello there Motorola Droid 2.  We would like to officially introduce you to the readers of Droid Life.  We saw your activation screen just the other day, but we’ll admit that it’s nice to finally see the rest of you.

What do you think everyone?  Should we just sit back and gaze at it for a bit?  Moment of silence for Droid 1?  Throw a party?  Be confused?  Start saving?

As you can see, externally, it looks almost identical to the Droid 1.  The keyboard is really the only thing to have undergone a complete overhaul and now lacks that giant gold D-pad (which no one used) and includes some puffier looking keys. There are also some minor tweaks to the lip which is covered, giving off a slightly smoother appearance.  The battery cover no longer has that fingernail insert.  And that’s basically it for the outside.  The Droid 2 is all about the internal specs and a new version of Motoblur which doesn’t appear to be quite as intrusive as the versions we’ve seen on the Devour and Backflip.

Some of the juicy details we were given:

-Android 2.1 (unless Verizon pumps out a last minute 2.2 update to it)
-3.7″ screen
-750MHz OMAP processor
-Wi-Fi tethering
-8GB internal
-8GB SD card preinstalled
-Updated keyboard
-5MP camera
-New version of Motoblur
-No HDMI port
-No front facing camera

I wish I had a release date for you, but at this time, nothing has been completely confirmed to us.  The Q3 rumors for which peg both the Droid Xtreme and the Droid 2 to be launched on the same day still seem pretty likely to tell you the truth.  One of our sources also informed us of a 3 hour long training session taking place on June 22nd for all retail employees which could mean training for these 2 new devices and Froyo.  Yay!

Oh, and one last gem for you…

Droid 2 Boot Animation:

Thoughts?  No HDMI port or front facing camera, but the internals should make it worth it right?  You all loved the Droid 1 styling so much and this is almost identical.  Does that make it a must-have?

Exclusive: Motorola Droid 2 Activation Screen

Check out our latest Droid Life exclusive screenie. See anything unusually fantastic?   Motorola logo at the top.  A955 on the activation screen.  You betcha.  That looks like the Droid 2 to me baby.

And feel free to compare this to all of the Droid Xtreme shots we had last week (here and here) so you can see that they are without a doubt different devices.

Exclusive: More Droid Xtreme Shots Released

Who wanted a back shot of the Motorola Droid Xtreme?  Well here you go.  You can see the beastly 8MP camera is embedded in that hump which we all have mixed feelings about.  And it indeed says “HD VIDEO” up there.  It is also definitely running Android 2.1 which I know differs from our previous post.  These new photos also confirm that it has the same styling as the Droid1 which is exciting to see.

One more front shot showing off the operating system:

Still not 100% sure on whether or not that is MotoBlur but it sure looks sort of like it doesn’t it?

Our source also completely squashed the “Shadow” codename.  It’s definitely the Xtreme people.  We will no longer be using it.

And if you missed out on our previous exclusive Xtreme shots?  Check them out here.

Exclusive: Motorola Droid Xtreme Pics

The Motorola Droid X/Xtreme/Shadow is definitely turning into a must-have after seeing these latest pics.  Look at that screen.  It’s a thing of beauty.

So here is what our tipster gave us:

  • Android 2.2
  • 9 home screens
  • No Motoblur
  • Dedicated camera button
  • “Very metal”
  • HDMI out

One more sideview:

Thoughts?  With that “metal” casing it’s really shaping into a device that has that original Droid 1 feel sans keyboard.  The last thing we needed was another plastic Incredible which lasts all of one pocket drop.

Stay tuned for more details…
