For years, Verizon has been able to continue to add customers, even as carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint have offered comparable plans at rock bottom prices with free phone deals and other gimmicks. Verizon could always fall back on its network being the best, even if their plan selection wasn’t or their prices were much higher than others. Something seems to have changed in 2017, though, as the company just reported what may be their worst quarter ever, a quarter that was actually on pace to be even worse if not for the introduction of Verizon Unlimited. Now that Verizon has a new unlimited plan available after spending years trying to force you off of your grandfathered unlimited plan, it might be time to figure out if those old digs are worth hanging onto. In my opinion, it’s probably worth making the switch, unless you fall into a pretty narrow category of grandfathered unlimited users.

So it’s 2017 and unlimited data is officially back at all of the major US carriers. (Don’t even try to tell me that you saw this coming.) It seemed like just days ago we were paying a hundred dollars for 2GB and 4GB of data and having our grandfathered unlimited data plans ripped from our cold, crusty, fingers with the shadiest of moves. This afternoon, because this is how John Legere works, the T-Mobile CEO has reacted to the new Verizon Unlimited plan by tweaking his company’s own unlimited offering known as T-Mobile ONE. What are the tweaks? Well, let’s just say that since Verizon’s unlimited plan offered a plan that bested his, he’s gone ahead and matched Big Red (in a way).
